rlanda es conocida por la antigüedad de su arte y su cultura. Esta
rica herencia encuentra expresiones en la música, la danza, la poesía,
el teatro, la pintura y escultura, así como en la producción cinematográfica. En México, como en muchos otros lugares, la música y la
literatura irlandesas son muy apreciadas. En particular las obras de
George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats, Samuel Beckett y Seamus
Heaney (todos ellos galardonados con el Premio Nobel de Literatura),
junto con Oscar Wilde, Sean O’Casey, James Joyce, y muchos otros
que llevaron la literatura irlandesa al mundo.
Literatura
La tradición literaria irlandesa es muy antigua, con obras que sobreviven el tiempo, muchas de gran esplendor que datan del siglo VI
después de Cristo. Una de las más antiguas e importantes es el Libro de Kells, un manuscrito de los Cuatro Evangelios actualmente
en exhibición en el Trinity College en Dublín. Durante muchos siglos,
se registró un rico acervo de prosa en las lenguas nativas de Irlanda,
gaélico o irlandés.

reland is known for its arts and ancient culture. This rich heritage
finds expression in music, dance, poetry, drama, film, painting and
sculpture. In Mexico as elsewhere, Irish music and literature are widely
celebrated. In particular, George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats,
Samuel Beckett and Seamus Heaney (all winners of the Nobel Prize for
literature), together with Oscar Wilde, Sean O’Casey, James Joyce, and
many others have brought Irish literature to the world.
Literature
The Irish literary tradition is an ancient one, with surviving works, many
of them beautifully illuminated, dating from the sixth century A.D. One
of the oldest and most important is the Book of Kells, a manuscript text
of the Four Gospels now on display at Trinity College, Dublin. For many
centuries, a rich store of prose was registered in the native language of
Ireland – Gaelic - or Irish. The language was the medium of expression
for the majority of the population up to the middle of the nineteenth century with a vibrant literary and musical tradition. Today, it continues as
an important medium, in the field of poetry in particular.
