What Is Spice?
•Also known as Synthetic Marijuana, it is sold with names such as K2, Fake
Weed, Purple Haze, California Potpourri, Flying Buddah, No More Mr. Nice Guy,
and Oblivion.
•Consists of herbs or other dried plant materials that are sprayed with chemical
substances that mimic the effects of marijuana.1
•Like other illegal drugs, the chemicals used in spice are unknown and most are
not for human consumption.2
How Do Young People Get It?
•Packaged in small, shiny bags and sold in gas stations, head shops, adult stores,
mini-marts, and online.
•Marketed as legal and labeled as “not for human consumption” to avoid FDA
regulation and to mask the drug’s intended purpose.3
What Are the Effects?
•Physical effects include racing heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, elevated blood
pressure, tremor, and seizures.4
•Psychological effects include psychotic episodes, withdrawal, agitation, anxiety,
intense hallucinations, paranoid behavior, and suicidal or other harmful thoughts.5
•May be associated with kidney problems and injury.6

¿Que Es El Spice?
• El termino “Spice” quiere decir “especias” en inglés. El Spice tambien es conocido
como marihuana sintética, y se vende bajo varios nombres incluyendo, en español:
K2, marihuana sintética, fuego de Yucatán, y llamarada solar; y en ingles: Fake Weed,
Purple Haze, California Potpourri, Flying Buddah, No More Mr. Nice Guy, y Oblivion.
• Contiene hierbas y materiales de otras plantas secas que fueron regados con químicos que imitan los efectos de la marihuana.1
• Como otras drogas ilegales, los productos químicos utilizados en el Spice son desconocidos y la mayoría no son para consumo humano.2
¿Cómo Lo Consiguen Los Jóvenes?
• Empacados en pequeñas bolsas brillantes, el Spice se vende en gasolineras, “head
shops” (tiendas donde se venden drogas ilícitas), tiendas de adultos, bodegas y a
través del Internet.
• El Spice es vendido como producto legal y es marcado con la etiqueta “no para
el consumo humano” para evitar las regulacíon de la Administracíon de Drogas y
Alimentos (FDA, por sus siglas en ingles) y para ocultar el uso previsto de la droga.3
¿Cuales Son Los Efectos?
• Efectos físicos incluyen rapidas palpitaciónes del corazón, nausea, vómito, alta
presión, temblores, y convulsiones.4
• Efectos psicológicos incluyen episodios psicóticos, síntomas de retiro, agitación,
ansiedad, alucinaciones intensas, comportamiento paranoico, pensamientos de
suicidio u otros pensamientos dañinos.5
• Puede dañar los riñónes.6
