INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCCIÓN
Fragile X Syndrome (FXS, OMIM # 309550) is an
X-linked disease that is primarily based on the genomic
expansion of a triplet of nucleotides (CGG), and aberrant
methylation of the promoter region.
El síndrome del X Frágil es una enfermedad ligada al
cromosoma X basada fundamentalmente en la
expansión genómica de un triplete de nucleótidos (CGG),
y en una metilación aberrante de la región promotora.
It has a striking phenotype consisting of large ears and a
prominent jaw, with an incidence of 1 in 4000 males
and 1 in 8000 females.
Presenta un fenotipo llamativo que consiste en grandes
orejas y mandíbula prominente, con una incidencia de 1
por cada 4000 hombres y 1 por cada 8000 mujeres.
Depending on the number of repetitions of this triplet,
three categories can be established:
- From 6 to 45 or 55 repeats: individuals with healthy
alleles.
- From 45 or 55 to 200 repeats: individuals with
prEmutated alleles.
- Over 200 repeats: individuals with mutated alleles.
Dependiendo del número de repeticiones de este triplete,
se pueden establecer tres categorías:
- De 6 a 45 ó 55 repeticiones: individuos con alelos
sanos.
- De 45 ó 55 a 200 repeticiones: individuos con alelos
premutados.
- Más de 200 repeticiones: individuos con alelos
mutados.
