Libertad Gills Arana
Directora y productora / Director and Producer
Nació en Ecuador, en 1984. Es directora, guionista y productora independiente. Tiene una licenciatura en cine y en ciencias políticas por la Wesleyan University de Connecticut, Estados Unidos,
y una maestría en antropología visual y documental antropológico por FLACSO-Ecuador. Sus documentales, cortos y vídeos han sido exhibidos en festivales internacionales como el Short Film
Corner de Cannes Film Festival (2010) y el Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena (2014),
en muestras académicas como el X Congreso Argentino de Antropología Social (2011) y en galerías de arte como el Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Quito (2013). En 2012 recibió el Premio
Mariano Aguilera para Investigación Artística por su proyecto documental Comuna Engabao,
cuyo estreno se realizará en mayo en el Festival Internacional de Cine Documental EDOC 2014.
Actualmente trabaja como productora de DOCTV Latinoamérica, donde coordina la producción
de 16 documentales de 16 países.
Born in Ecuador in 1984, Libertad Gills is a director, scriptwriter and independent producer. She studied
a major in Filmmaking and another one in Political Sciences at Wesleyan University (Connecticut, U.S.A.).
She also has a Master’s degree in Visual Anthropology and Anthropological Documentary from FLACSO-Ecuador. Her documentaries, short films and videos have been exhibited in international festivals such
as the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival (2010) and the International Film Festival of Cartagena
(2014). They have also been presented in academic exhibits such as the X Argentinean Congress of Social
Anthropology (2011) and in art galleries such as the Center for Contemporary Art in Quito (2013). In 2012
she received the Mariano Aguilera Award for Artistic Investigation for her documentary project Comuna
Engabao, which will debut in May in the International Festival of Documentary Film, EDOC 2014. At present,
she works as a producer in DOCTV Latin-America, and coordinates the production of 16 documentaries of
16 countries.
