What do you get when you combine a microbiologist
with a love of teaching, robots and science? No experiment required to answer this scientific question – it is
clearly Ms. Kehoe! Commandeering the science lab in
the Academy, Ms. Kehoe has taught every science lab
and lesson imaginable in her nine years at WJHS&A.
Whether training chemical sales people during an earlier
career in microbiology or teaching her Bozo the Clown
doll as a little girl, Ms. Kehoe realizes she has always
been a teacher at heart. And science is always on her
mind. “Science makes sense to me. It’s just how my

brain works. I problem solve all the time,” shared Kehoe. After facing exploding airbags in a recent car accident, Ms. Kehoe and her son immediately began investigating
how the bags deployed before the dust had even cleared. “I just look at things and
wonder how they work,” explained Ms. Kehoe. Teachers, students, and staff can’t help
but admire her creative lessons and interactive teaching style. Favorite lessons named
by Ms. Kehoe include chemical reactions, making silly putty, and even running a small
cookie mining business where, “Students have a budget, and they have to buy supplies. The goal is to mine as many chocolate chips out of the cookie as they can without destroying the chip.” Hopefully Ms. Kehoe will inspire many students to consider a
STEM career (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). “They can invent, explore…I think engineering is going to be an important career for this generation. They
will need to make what we already have better,” Kehoe declared. Outside school
hours, Ms. Kehoe is mentoring future scientists in the Robotics Club, staying flexible
with yoga, and fit in her kayak. This summer Ms. Kehoe and her teenage son, Andrew,
are welcoming a new puppy in their family! After careful analysis, we can all conclude
Ms. Kehoe is one special teacher. Thank you for bringing the Scientific Method to
bright middle school minds!

JOLIET GRADE SCHOOL BAND 100TH ANNIVERSARY
CELEBRATION
This year’s Children for Peace musical celebration will honor the 100 th anniversary of the Joliet Grade School Band on April 16, 2014. More than 400
District 86 students will perform at the Rialto Square Theatre at 7:00 p.m. A
student art exhibit will be on display in the rotunda prior to the show. Tickets
are $3.00 each and will be available through the Rialto Box Office, 102 N.
Chicago Street.

¿Qué se obtiene cuando se combina un microbiólogo
con el amor por la enseñanza, los robots y la ciencia? No
se requiere un experimento para responder a esta pregunta
científica - es claramente la Sra. Kehoe! Encargada del
laboratorio de ciencias en la Academia, la Sra. Kehoe ha
enseñado cada laboratorio de ciencias y lección imaginable
en sus nueve años en WJHSyA. Ya sea entrenando a vendedores durante su carrera anterior en microbiología o enseñándole a su muñeco de Bozo el Payaso como niña, la
Sra. Kehoe admite que siempre ha sido profesora en el
fondo de su corazón. La ciencia está siempre en mi mente.
"La ciencia tiene sentido para mí. Es cómo funciona mi cerebro. Yo resuelvo problemas todo el tiempo," compartió

Kehoe. Después de enfrentarse a las bolsas de aire que estallaron
en un accidente automovilístico reciente, la Sra. Kehoe y su hijo de inmediato comenzaron a
investigar cómo las bolsas desplegaron antes de que el polvo fuera limpiado. "Acabo de ver las
cosas y me pregunto cómo funcionan," explicó la Sra. Kehoe.
Los profesores, los estudiantes y el personal no pueden dejar de admirar sus lecciones creativas y estilo de enseñanza interactiva. Las lecciones favoritas nombradas por la Sra.
Kehoe incluyen reacciones químicas, haciendo plastilina e incluso dirigir una pequeña empresa
minera de galletas donde, "Los estudiantes cuentan con un presupuesto, y tienen que comprar
los suministros. El objetivo es extraer la mayor cantidad de chispas de chocolate de la cookie,
sin destruir el chip." Esperamos que la Sra. Kehoe inspirare a muchos estudiantes a considerar
una carrera en Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (STEM). "Pueden inventar, explorar... creo que la ingeniería va a ser una carrera importante para esta generación. Ellos tendrán que hacer lo que ya tenemos mejor," declaró Kehoe. Fuera del horario escolar, la Sra.
Kehoe es mentora de futuros científicos en el Club de Robótica, flexible con yoga y kayak. Este
verano la Sra. Kehoe y su hijo adolescente, Andrew, dan la bienvenida a un nuevo cachorro a
su familia! Después de un cuidadoso análisis, todos podemos concluir que la Sra. Kehoe es un
maestra especial. Gracias por traer el método científico a nuestra escuela y iluminar nuestras
mentes!
CELEBRACION DEL 100 ANIVERSARIO DE LA BANDA
DE LAS ESCUELAS DE JOLIET
Este año la celebración musical de “Children for Peace” honora al 100°
aniversario de la banda de las escuelas de Joliet el 16 de abril 2014. Más
de 400 estudiantes del Distrito 86 actuaran en el Teatro Rialto a las
7:00 p.m. Los estudiantes de Arte tendrán una exhibición en la rotonda
antes del espectáculo. Las entradas cuestan $3.00 cada uno y estarán
disponible a través de la taquilla del Rialto, 102 N. Chicago Street.
