Cancerous cells form tumors that negatively impact the functions of the body, inducing serious malfunctioning leading to fatalities in most cases. Up to now, the effective diagnosis and treatments of cancer have remained a big challenge. Nanotechnology is an emerging field encompassing science, engineering and medicine, which has attracted great attention for cancer therapy in recent years. ver más... Formulación de nanomedicinas para el tratamiento de tuberculosis Publicada en Science Direct- Publicaciones Científicas sobre Nano-Medicina-Tratamiento, 01/07/2016 Publication date: 1 July 2016 Source: Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, Volume 102 Author(s): Ana Costa, Marina Pinheiro, Joana Magalhães, Ricardo Ribeiro, Vitor Seabra, Salette Reis, Bruno Sarmento Recent estimates indicate that tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death worldwide, alongside the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The current treatment is effective, but is associated with severe adverse-effects and noncompliance to prescribed regimens. An alternative route of drug delivery may improve the performance of existing drugs, which may have a key importance in TB control and eradication. ver más... Nanopartículas multifuncionales a base de aptámeros para la administración dirigida de fármacospara evitar la resistencia al cáncer Publicada en Science Direct- Publicaciones Científicas sobre Nano-Medicina-Tratamiento, 01/06/2016 Publication date: June 2016 Source: Biomaterials, Volume 91 Author(s): Juan Liu, Tuo Wei, Jing Zhao, Yuanyu Huang, Hua Deng, Anil Kumar, Chenxuan Wang, Zicai Liang, Xiaowei Ma, Xing-Jie Liang By its unique advantages over traditional medicine, nanomedicine has offered new strategies for cancer treatment. In particular, the development of drug delivery strategies has focused on nanoscale particles to improve bioavailability. However, many of these nanoparticles are unable to overcome tumor resistance to chemotherapeutic agents. Recently, new opportunities for drug delivery have been provided by oligonucleotides that can selfassemble into three-dimensional nanostructures. In this work, we have designed and developed functional DNA nanostructures to deliver the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin (Dox) to resistant cancer cells. ver más...
