REPORTED SPEECH REPORTED SPEECH Se usa para contar lo que alguien ha dicho sin repetir las palabras exactas: - ‘I work here’, she said. (Estilo directo) - She said (that) she worked there. (Estilo indirecto) REPORTED SPEECH (1) STATEMENTS • • • • La frase se suele introducir con los verbos ‘say’ y ‘tell’. No hay comillas Los verbos cambian al pasado Los pronombres y adjetivos posesivos cambian lógicamente (normalmente de la 1ª y 2ª persona a la 3ª), excepto cuando el hablante cuenta lo que él dijo. • El pronombre ‘you’ cambia a ‘I’ o ‘we’. • Las palabras que indican lugar y tiempo deben cambiar lógicamente REPORTED SPEECH STATEMENTS Diana said, ‘I’m looking for my bag’ Diana said (that) she was looking for her bag REPORTED SPEECH STATEMENTS Fiona said to Jim, ‘We like your new jeans’. (told) REPORTED SPEECH Cuando el verbo introductor está en pasado (said, told, …) se producen los siguientes cambios en los tiempos: PRESENT SIMPLE ‘I play chess.’ PAST SIMPLE She said (that) she played chess. PRESENT CONTINUOUS ‘I’m playing chess.’ PAST CONTINUOUS She said (that) she was playing chess. PRESENT PERFECT ‘I have played chess.’ PAST PERFECT She said (that) she had played chess. PAST SIMPLE ‘I played chess’. PAST PERFECT She said (that) she had played chess. REPORTED SPEECH (3) COMMANDS and REQUESTS • Se emplea un verbo introductor que exprese mandato (tell, ask, order, …). • El imperativo pasa a infinitivo. • Al traducir las ideas en estilo indirecto usamos el subjuntivo.
