ri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day” is back to
offer families a fun-filled afternoon
with activities, giveaways and more,
on Saturday, October 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
at Tri-Rail’s Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood
International Airport Station at Dania Beach.
This year’s event will feature carnival-style
games and prizes, balloon art, clowns, a
magic show, music, a kids’ Halloween
costume contest and more.
Admission to the event is
free and Tri-Rail will
offer additional trains
to get families to the
event. Everyone can
take advantage of
Tri-Rail’s discounted
weekend fares: $5 for
adults, $2.50 for children
ages 5-12; children under
5 ride free. The first 350 riders
to present a validated Tri-Rail ticket
dated October 30, 2010, at the
event, will receive a $5
complimentary coupon for
Pollo Tropical.
Families who attend Tri-Rail’s
third annual “Rail Fun Day” will
also enjoy complimentary soup

from Pollo Tropical, ice
cream samples from Blue
Bell Ice Cream, and can
participate in cookie
decorating, compliments of
Winn-Dixie. There will also
be fun interactive games with
the Florida Marlins and
mobile pet adoptions
offered by the Humane
Society of Broward
County. There will be
additional giveaways and
activities from a host of
merchants, including,
South Florida Parenting,
Boomers, International Game
Fish Association, Miami Herald,
Tigertail Lake Center, Wannado City, City
County Credit Union and more. Kids 12 and
under are also welcome to show off their
Halloween costume at the event and
participate in a costume contest for a chance
to win Blue Bell Ice Cream for one year, as
well as other great prizes.
In celebrating the “green” benefits of riding
Tri-Rail, families will have the opportunity to
have their photo taken with Tri-Rail’s mascot,
Conductor George Green, and also to register
for Tri-Rail’s Birthday Club, which offers kids
a special coloring book and free train ticket
on their birthday. The Kids Ecology Corps will
also teach kids about the importance of trees
in building a sustainable environment, and
will give them the opportunity to plant their
own seeds as part of this green initiative. In
addition, spectators will enjoy the display of
one signature alligator as part of Sawgrass
Mills’ “Gator Glam” presented by Billie
Swamp Safari.
Needless to say, there will be plenty of
family fun at Tri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day,” as the
expectations are to have a greater event than

TRI-RAIL EASY CARD COMING SOON
T
he South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) is getting ready to launch
a new fare collection system that will broadly enhance regional travel in South Florida.
The SFRTA/Tri-Rail EASY Card is expected to be fully operational in early 2011,
providing passengers with new “Smart Card” technology at their fingertips; including card
registration, transaction history reports, and capability to contain photo identification.
Most passengers who currently purchase Tri-Rail Monthly Tickets are already familiar with
Miami-Dade Transit’s (MDT) EASY Card, which will only make the transition for them that
much easier. Once Tri-Rail’s EASY Card becomes available, both MDT’s and Tri-Rail’s cards
will have the ability to access each other’s transit system.
Installation of new ticket vending machines will start soon, as will the distribution of free
EASY Cards for passengers, for a limited time. Stay tuned at www.tri-rail.com for further updates.
