This year, GDW has TWO new music teachers! Miss Crater will be at school
everyday and Miss Mitchell will be at school on “A” days and “C” days.
We are so excited to sing, play, move, and create in Music Class this year!
Each grade level will share their talents with family and friends at their
grade level performance. Please see the reverse side of this note for the
2016-2017
Performance Calendar.
Throughout the year, we will communicate performance details and
music announcements via your classroom teacher. You can also get
important updates through our GDW Music Haiku Page. More information to

Gary D. Wright Elementary School is proud to offer choir to all 4th and 5th grade
students! If you LOVE to sing and are looking to Grow and express yourself through musicGDW Choir is for you!
Three Scheduled Concerts are:

**Attendance is very important**
If you decide to join GDW Choir, you are committing to attending after school rehearsals, as well as concert performances. Supervision
will not be available after 3 pm when rehearsals end.
Parents, be sure to arrange transportation for your students to be picked up by 3:00 on rehearsal days.
I am SO excited for choir to begin, and I hope you are too! If interested, please complete the bottom
section of this sheet, and return it to your teacher by *FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9th*

FAMILY CHARACTERS
Develop new characters by observing
people around us. Learn how to draw
different members of a family. We
draw with family traits to show that
they are related. Adding details and
props reflecting each personality.
SCARECROW
IGUANA
Draw this iguana. We portray our reptile
friend sitting on top of a rock. Line its
back with pointy spines. Its toes with
sharp claws. We apply a striped pattern
to its long, curvy tail. Bold, vibrant
A character that is often associated with
the fall season. This scarecrow standing
in a cornfield as he protects the crops.
Colorful patterns detail our scarecrow’s
clothing. Add clouds and corn stalks.
PUMPKINS ON VINE
A seasonal fall image featuring
colorful pumpkins. Our pumpkins are
different sizes. Their rinds divided
with curved lines. We fill our
multilayered composition with leaves

stylized figure in a three
dimensional environment.
ACTION DOGS
Draw these fun dogs in action. We
learn how to draw their bodies and
faces. Jumping in the air and flipping
dynamic poses. Our cartoon dogs
were placed in interesting settings.
Your child will learn these skills and techniques during Young Rembrandts’ classes. Each week your child
draws new images, learns new vocabulary and has fun discovering art and the Power of Drawing!
