Descripción
Este curso examinará el sistema biogeoquímico de sistemas marinos costeros, fiordos, estuarios y lagos. Se considerará el efecto de la vida
en la química del planeta Tierra a una escala global, enfatizando sobre el impacto antropogénico en modificar los ciclos biogeoquímicos del
C, N, Si, y P. El curso examinará diversas, importantes, pero complejas preguntas relacionadas al tema de cambio climático y efectos
antropogénicos: 1) ¿Como nuestro planeta operó en la ausencia de la influencia humana?, 2) ¿Cómo podemos ser capaces de discernir
efectos antropogénicos de aquellos debido a la variabilidad natural del planeta?, 3) ¿Cuáles son las implicancias de los cambios en la
biogeoquímica de los sistemas acuáticos para la población humana?. Los tópicos que se cubrirán en el curso son muy amplios, y van desde
los elementos básicos de los ciclos biogeoquímicos acoplados, rol de organismos planctónicos y microorganismos en los ciclos
biogeoquímicos, a casos de estudio y soluciones de problemas relacionados con su modificación e impacto en el cambio climático de nuestro
planeta.
Objetivos Generales :
1.Lograr un entendimiento de los ciclos biogeoquímicos de diferentes elementos en ecosistemas acuáticos en el contexto del cambio
climático global.
2.Aplicar el conocimiento sobre los ciclos biogeoquímicos de ecosistemas acuáticos a problemáticas ambientales y posibles aproximaciones
para un manejo sustentable.
