Una lámina ondeante para agrupar arquitecturas desiguales. Tres edificios en desuso
vinculados por una cubierta flotante conforman el nuevo complejo destinado al Museo de
Arte de Rio, la escuela “A Escola do Olhar” y una serie de espacios culturales y de ocio. El
diseño de Bernardes Jacobsen Arquitetura recicla con diferentes niveles de preservación
el “Palacete Dom João”, el edificio de la policía y la antigua estación central de autobuses
de Río, para dar lugar a un nuevo desarrollo urbano en el centro histórico de Río de
Janeiro.
El plano suspendido es el elemento que definitivamente caracteriza el proyecto. Una
forma abstracta y extremadamente ligera que simula las ondas de la superficie del agua.
Un dispositivo que muestra como punto discordante la decisión de instalar elementos de
sostén sobre el borde del edificio histórico.

El acceso se establece en el espacio libre entre los edificios que permite llegar al patio
cubierto, para conceder una secuencia entre el espacio abierto y el interior. La cubierta
sostenida por pilotes, constituida como el gran articulador del complejo, también será
destinado al área de esculturas.
El diseño se estructura propiciando un sistema de flujo circulatorio que permite al museo
y la escuela trabajar de manera integrada. Una plaza suspendida en la azotea del
reciclado edificio de la policía articulará todos los accesos, donde se instala el bar y un
área para eventos culturales y de ocio. De esta forma, se propone un sentido descendente
para el visitante. La conexión entre los dos edificios se instituye por una pasarela
suspendida que permitirá establecer el recorrido por las distintas instalaciones.
Para alojar el salón de exposiciones se reservó el edificio del palacio, dotado de plantas
libres y gran altura de cubierta. El ex edificio de la policía fue reciclado reemplazando la
mampostería de cierre de las fachadas con vidrio translúcido, que permite hacer vivible la
estructura de pilotis que lo atraviesa para sostener la cubierta. Estas instalaciones fueron
destinadas a la escuela de arte, el auditorio, un área multimedia de exposiciones y las
áreas de administración.

A sheet waving to group dissimilar architectures. Three disused buildings linked by a floating
cover up the new complex intended Rio Art Museum, the school “Escola do Olhar A” and a
