CONFIRMATION and/or
FIRST COMMUNION FOR TEENS
We are now accepting registrations for our TEEN CONFIRMATION & FIRST COMMUNION
program.
The first part consists of a TWOWEEK INTENSIVE INTRODUCTION TO THE FAITH. The
teens attend classes for 15 consecutive days starting Monday, August 22 and ending Monday, September 5. We pack into these two
weeks one year of catechism especially geared to teens. They actually like these classes and look forward to returning each day.
The second part consists of attendance at a weekly class on
Thursday evenings and participation at Sunday Mass at 9:00
a.m. Mass attendance is NOT optional.
Sometime in the Spring (it’s the bishop who sets the date),
those who fulfill the program requirements will receive their
Sacrament.
To register, go to the rectory office and bring with you (if
you have it) the baptismal certificate and the initial fee of
$50. Students must be at least 14 years of age by August
22.

programa de Confirmación y/o Primera Comunión para los adolescentes de las
edades entre 14 y 18 años.
La primera fase consiste de 2 semanas intensivas de clases básicas sobre la Fe Católica. Los estudiantes asisten a clases por 15
días consecutivos comenzando el LUNES
22 de AGOSTO a las 6:45pm y terminando
el LUNES 5 de SEPTIEMBRE. En el periodo de 2 semanas los
jóvenes reciben el equivalente de un año de instrucción catequética. Los estudiantes gozan y aprenden de estas clases.
La segunda fase consiste de la asistencia a una clase semanal y
también de participar en la Misa de 9:00am todos los domingos.
Los que cumplen con los requisitos del programa recibirán su
Sacramento en la primavera del 2017.
Para inscribir a su hijo o hija, vayan a la oficina lo más pronto
posible. Cupo limitado. Debe traer el acta de Bautismo (si lo tiene
a mano) más la cuota inicial de 50 dlls.

‘IGLESIAS CATÓLICAS’ LO SON

templo se vea como un templo Católico o que tienen allí
una imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe o de
otros Santos Católicos.
También puede ser que
el pastor se viste como
sacerdote y que allí dan
‘Misas’. Nada de esto
garantiza que son Católicos verdaderos en comunión con el Papa Francisco.
Tristemente, hay un numero creciente de sectas nuevas
que insisten que son 'Católicas' pero rechazan la autoridad
del Papa y las demás doctrinas Católicas. Confunden a la
gente no instruida que va en busca de los Sacramentos de la
Iglesia.
¡Cuidado con aquellas sectas! Y dese cuenta: un Católico
debe asistir a Misa y recibir los Sacramentos solamente en
una parroquia ‘registrada’ con la Iglesia Católica, Apostólica
y Romana. Si no, los llamados ‘Sacramentos’ recibidos no
son lícitos en los ojos de la Iglesia Católica, Apostólica y
Romana.

to the memory of late Stella
Wojtyniak, long time parishioner and former secretary
(many years ago) of Holy
Innocents Parish. The St.
Nicholas window is the first
in a series of 6 “Christmas
Saints” windows which will adorn our historic parish church. Production is underway for
the next window: our patron saints, the HOLY INNOCENTS. This window is being
sponsored by Mr. Maurizio Cappelletti and
will be dedicated to his late son, Marco A.
Cappelletti.
These custom, superior quality, handcrafted
windows are being fabricated by The Judson
Studios, Los Angeles. Inquiries regarding

XXI SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
HOLY INNOCENTS’ SEMINARIANS
We are still reeling with joy at the
diaconate ordination of one of our
own last Saturday, the Reverend Mr.
Robert McGowan. Robert is what is
called a “transitional” deacon. That
is, he will minister as a deacon for
about 9 months and then, on the first
Saturday in June of 2017, he will be

ordained to the Priesthood. In other
words, he is in the final leg of his journey to the priesthood.
During these months Deacon McGowan will spend most of
his time finishing his theological studies at St. John’s Seminary. However, he will be assisting at our parish a couple of
weekends each month. This is a great blessing for all of us
and the fruit of the prayers of so many of our faithful parishioners.
Matt Wheeler is right behind Deacon
McGowan. God willing, he will be
ordained to the transitional diaconate
in August of 2017 and to the priesthood in June of the following year.

FIRST COMMUNION FOR CHILDREN
W
e are now accepting
registration for First
Communion classes for
children 7 to 12 years of
age. Everyone is welcome.
Bring the $25 initial registration fee and the
child’s official baptismal
certificate (if possible).
Don’t delay in order to assure that your child has a
place in these First Communion classes. Space is
limited.
But there is more! There are at least two more young men
from Holy Innocents—high school seniors—who are also
discerning a vocation to the priesthood and who will very
likely apply to Juan Diego House once they graduate. This
will bring the total number of Holy Innocents seminarians
to 6 young men. That is astounding! It is a great grace and a
blessing for our parish and for the Church. It also means that
we must all double our efforts to accompany our seminarians
with more prayer and mortification.
From time to time, I will be posting here profiles of each of
our seminarians so that you can get to know them better and
be reminded to keep them in your prayers.

Last Saturday, two more Holy Innocents parishioners entered Juan Diego
House which is the Archdiocese’s

These two young men are Isaac Camarillo and Leonardo Mendoza. They
begin a 4 year program of university
studies which will be followed by
theological studies at St. John’s Seminary. Altogether, it is a
9 year long period of preparation and so I ask for your prayers for them that they may persevere.

NUESTROS SEMINARISTAS
Desde el sábado estamos llenos
de alegría por la ordenación al
diaconado de uno de los nuestros, El Reverendo Sr. Roberto
McGowan. Roberto es ahora lo
que se le llama un diácono transicional. Esto significa que el
servirá a los feligreses en su
calidad de diácono por alrededor de 9 meses y después, en el primer sábado de Junio 2017, será ordenado Sacerdote. En otras palabras, él está en el tramo
final de su camino al Sacerdocio. Durante estos meses, el Diácono McGowan dedicará su tiempo a terminar sus estudios teológicos en el seminario de St.
John. Aun así, el ayudará a nuestra parroquia un par
de fin de semanas cada mes en su nueva capacidad de
diacono. Esto es una gran bendición para todos nosotros y es el fruto de las oraciones
de nuestros fieles feligreses.
Matt Wheeler está justo atrás del
Diacono McGowan. Dios mediante, el será ordenado diacono transicional en Agosto de 2017 y al sacerdocio en Junio del siguiente

sus oraciones por ellos para que perseveren.
Pero aún hay más! Hay al menos 2 jóvenes más de
Santos Inocentes que están en su último año de la preparatoria, que también están discerniendo su vocación
al sacerdocio. Es muy probable que ellos aplicaran a
la Casa Juan Diego al graduarse de la preparatoria.
Esto aumentaría el número total de seminaristas de
Santos Inocentes a 6 jóvenes. Esto es asombroso! Es
una gran gracia y bendición para nuestra parroquia y
para la Iglesia. También significa que tenemos que
duplicar nuestros esfuerzos para acompañar a nuestros seminaristas con más oración y mortificación.
De tiempo en tiempo estaré publicando perfiles de
cada uno de nuestros seminaristas para que puedan
conocerlos mejor y para acordarse ustedes de que debemos mantenerlos en nuestras oraciones.
