MISSION COOPERATIVE PLAN APPEAL
St. Patrick’s Missionary Society (also known as St. Patrick Fathers)
was formally established on March 17, 1932. The Society was founded
by Irish diocesan priests who initially had gone to work on a temporary
basis in Nigeria, West Africa, but who later wished to dedicate their lives
fully to the missions. Later as the new missionary society grew, more
work was undertaken, not only in Nigeria, but also in Kenya (1951),
Brazil (1962), Malawi (1970), Grenada (1970), Zambia (1973), Sudan
(1983), Zimbabwe (1989), Cameroon (1989), and Homelands of South
Africa (1989).
In the United States the society has one house: Their Chicago IL
address is: 8422 W. Windsor Ave., Chicago, IL 60656-1452.
A few Society priests work in diocese in the United Sates. There are now 300 priests in the
Society, of which 21 are newly ordained African priests. After a drop in vocations in recent years,
there are now more than 64 preparing for the priesthood information centers in Nigeria, Kenya
and South Africa.
Most of the people among whom we work are extremely poor, and we have no means of training
our seminarians and supporting our priests in their work other than the
donations we receive.
This weekend, during all masses, Father Michael Moore will be with us
preaching about their mission and the second collection will be for the
St. Patrick fathers. Please be generous...envelopes will be provided.

2013. SERVING CHRIST AND THE
CHURCH
I would like to propose three simple thoughts guided by three
expressions: to put Christ and the Church in the centre; to allow
ourselves to be conquered by Him in order to serve; to feel the
shame of our limitations and our sins, in order to be humble
before Him and before the brothers.
1. The emblem (IHS) "Jesus, the Saviour of Mankind" continually
reminds us of a reality that we must never forget: the centrality of Christ for each one of us... "Is Christ the centre of
my life? Do I really put Christ at the cetre of my life?" Because there is always the temptation to want to put ourselves
in the centre. And when a person puts himself and not Christ in the centre, he goes astray.
The centrality of Christ corresponds also to the centrality of the Church: they are two flames that cannot be
separated: I cannot follow Christ except in and with the Church.
2. What is the way to live this double centrality? Let us look at the experience of Saint Paul. The Apostle writes:
I press on towards the perfection of Christ, "because I have indeed been conquered by Jesus Christ" (Phil. 3:12).
For Paul it came along the road to Damascus: to allow oneself to be conquered by Christ. I seek Jesus,
I serve Jesus, because He sought me first, because I was conquered by Him: and this is the heart of our experience.
Christ our Lord, the eternal King, calls each one of us, saying to us: "He who wants to come with Me must work with
Me, because following Me in suffering, he will follow after Me likewise in glory": Being conquered by Christ in order to
offer to this King our whole person and all our hard work; to say to the Lord that he would do anything for His greater
service and praise, to imitate Him in bearing even injury, contempt, poverty. To allow ourselves to be conquered by
Christ means to be always directed towards what is in front of me, toward the goal of Christ (cf. Phil. 3:14), and to
ask oneself with truth and sincerity: "What have I done for Christ? What am doing for Christ? What must I do for
Christ?"
3. And I come to the final point. In the Gospel, Jesus says to us: "Whoever would save his life will lose it, but
whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. If anyone is ashamed of me. " (Lk 9:23). And so on. The invitation that
Jesus makes is for us to never be ashamed of Him, but to always follow Him with total dedication, trusting Him and
entrusting ourselves to Him. But looking at Jesus, above all looking at Christ crucified, we have that very human and
noble feeling that is the shame of not reaching the highest point; we look at the wisdom of Christ and at our
ignorance; at His omnipotence and our weakness; at His justice and our iniquity; at His goodness and our wickedness.Ask for the grace of shame; the shame that comes from the constant dialogue of mercy with Him; the shame
that makes us blush before Jesus Christ; the shame that puts us in tune with the heart of Christ who is made sin for
me; the shame that harmonises our heart in tears and accompanies us in the daily following of "my Lord". And this
always brings us, as individuals and as a Company, to humility, to living this great virtue.
Humility that makes us understand, each day, that it is not for us to build the Kingdom of God, but it is always the
grace of God working within us; humility that pushes us to put our whole being not at the service of ourselves and our
own ideas, but at the service of Christ and of the Church, like clay pots, fragile, inadequate, insufficient, but having
within them an immense treasure that we carry and that we communicate (2 Cor. 4:7).

HOMILIA DEL PAPA FRANCISCO. 31 de julio
2013 SERVIR A CRISTO Y A LA IGLESIA
Quisiera proponer tres sencillos pensamientos guiados por
tres expresiones: poner en el centro a Cristo y a la Iglesia;
dejarse conquistar por Él para servir; sentir la vergüenza de
nuestros límites y pecados, para ser humildes delante de Él y
los hermanos.
El lema “Iesus Hominum Salvator” (IHS): JESUS SALVADOR
DE LOS HOMBRES, nos recuerda constantemente una
realidad que no debemos olvidar nunca: la centralidad de Cristo para cada uno de nosotros…
No es descontada la pregunta para todos nosotros: ¿es Cristo el centro de mi vida? ¿Pongo realmente a Cristo
en el centro de mi vida? Porque siempre está la tentación de pensar estar nosotros al centro. Y cuando uno se
pone a sí mismo al centro y no a Cristo, se equivoca.
¡Cristo es nuestra vida! A la centralidad de Cristo corresponde también la centralidad de la Iglesia: son dos
fuegos que no pueden separarse: yo no puedo seguir a Cristo si no en la Iglesia y con la Iglesia… estamos al
servicio de Cristo y de la Iglesia, la Esposa de Cristo nuestro Señor, que es nuestra Santa Madre Iglesia…
Ser hombres y mujeres radicados y fundados en la Iglesia: así nos quiere Jesús. No puede haber caminos
paralelos o aislados.
2. ¿Cuál es el camino para vivir esta doble centralidad? Miramos a la experiencia de san Pablo. El apóstol
escribe: mi esfuerzo por correr hacia la perfección de Cristo, "habiendo sido yo mismo alcanzado por
Cristo Jesús". (Fil 3,12). El punto fundamental es dejarse conquistar por Cristo. Yo busco a Jesús, yo sirvo a
Jesús porque Él me ha buscado primero, porque he sido conquistado por Él: y esto es el corazón de nuestra
experiencia. Pero Él está primero, siempre. Cuando nosotros llegamos, Él ha llegado y nos espera. Jesús llama
a cada uno de nosotros diciéndonos: "quien quiera venir conmigo debe trabajar conmigo, para que siguiéndome
en el sufrimiento, me siga también en la gloria: Ser conquistado por Cristo para ofrecer a este Rey toda nuestra
persona y todas nuestras fatigas; decir al Señor querer hacer todo por su mayor servicio y alabanza, imitarlo en
el aguantar también injurias, desprecio, pobreza. Dejarse conquistar por Cristo significa estar siempre dirigido
hacia lo que tengo de frente, hacia la meta de Cristo (cfr Fil 3,14) y preguntarse con verdad y sinceridad: ¿qué
he hecho por Cristo? ¿Qué hago por Cristo? ¿Qué debo hacer por Cristo?
3. Y voy al último punto. En el Evangelio Jesús nos dice: "quien quiera salvar la propia vida la perderá, pero
quien pierda su vida por mi, la salvará...quién se avergüence de mi" (Lc 9, 23). Y así. La invitación que hace
Jesús es la de no avergonzarse nunca de Él, sino de seguirle siempre con total dedicación, fiándose y
confiando en Él.
Mirando a Cristo crucificado sentimos esa sensación tan humana y tan noble que es la vergüenza de no estar a
la altura. Miramos a la sabiduría de Cristo y a nuestra ignorancia, a su omnipotencia y a nuestra debilidad, a su
justicia y a nuestra iniquidad, a su bondad y a nuestra maldad. Pedir la gracia de la vergüenza; vergüenza que
viene del continuo coloquio de misericordia con Él; vergüenza que nos hace sonrojarnos delante de Jesucristo;
vergüenza que nos pone en sintonía con el corazón de Cristo que se ha hecho pecado por mí; vergüenza que
pone en armonía nuestro corazón en las lágrimas y nos acompaña en la secuela cotidiana de "mi Señor".
Y esto nos lleva siempre a la humildad, a vivir esta gran virtud. Humildad que nos hace conscientes todos los
días de que no somos nosotros los que tenemos que construir el Reino de Dios, sino que es siempre la gracia
del Señor que obra en nosotros; la humildad que nos lleva a ponernos a nosotros mismos no a nuestro servicio
personal o al servicio de nuestras ideas, sino al servicio de Cristo y de la Iglesia, como vasijas de barro, frágiles,
inadecuadas, insuficientes, pero con un inmenso tesoro que llevamos y comunicamos (2 Cor4,7).

PLAN MISIONERO DE COOPERACIÓN
Este fin de semana el Padre Michael Moore nos
estará acompañando para hablar de la Misión
que hacen Los hermanos de misioneros de
San Patricio. Esta Sociedad fue establecida en
Marzo 17 de 1932 el cual inicialmente solo se
ofrecía trabajo misionero temporero en Nigeria
y el Oeste de África. Años después ellos han
Dedicado su vida al
trabajo en misión. Ahora
hay 300 padres trabajando
para esta misión,
recientemente se ordenaron
21 sacerdote africanos y 64
seminaristas preparándose
para ejercer esta labor tan
frucơfera.
Los Padres de San Patricio reciben apoyo y se
manƟenen solamente de las donaciones que
los feligreses dan. Por favor sean generosos el
próximo fin de semana y apoyemos a nuestros y
hermanas necesitados. Se proveerán sobres
para esta segunda colecta.
El Rinconcito de Salud los invita a los exámenes de Shagas, presión de arterial y
niveles de masa corporal que se llevaran a
cabo el día 25 de Agosto en el pasillo de la dirección de
