MISIÓN PARROQUIAL
MISSION STATEMENT
We, the people of St. John XXIII, are a multi-ethnic Roman Catholic
parish (founded on July 1, 2006) formed from the union of the Church
of the Resurrection, Fontana and the parish of St. Thomas More,
Rialto. We seek to nourish the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all families
and people, so that they can rejoice in the love of God in this life and
in the life to come. We endeavor to do this by fostering: an authentic
Christian Stewardship, the Christian education of our youth and adults
through Resurrection Academy and other programs, outreach to the
poor and needy, and the celebration of the sacraments, especially the
Holy Eucharist.

Católica Romana multiétnica (fundada el 1de julio del 2006) formada
por la unión de la Iglesia de la Resurrección en Fontana y la parroquia
de Santo Tomas Moro en Rialto. Procuramos alimentar el Evangelio de
Jesucristo en todas las familias y en todas personas, para que puedan
regocijarse en el amor de Dios durante ésta vida y en la vida por venir.

ENCOUNTERING GOD IN THE SACRAMENT (5)
Confirmation
The coming of Jesus marked the dwelling of God with
his people. But when the time came for him to go back to the
Father (John 14:15-17), Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit,
another advocate, to believers. This way, God would continue
to dwell with believers forever, and through them give witness
to the message of salvation (Acts 1:8). This was fulfilled on the
Pentecost when the Holy Spirit pitched his tent among believers. As the introduction to the Rite of Confirmation states: “by
the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength
of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ,
more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and
deed.” Through the imposition of hand and anointing which
symbolizes the passing on of power (1 Sam 10:1-9), the believer receives the Holy Spirit and sealed with Him (Eph 4:30) in a
bond of love and unity.
How is Confirmation the perfection of Baptism?
Confirmation is regarded as the perfection of Baptism,
because, in Baptism we receive the Holy Spirit for the first time
and in Confirmation we do not receive the Holy Spirit, instead
we receive an additional grace of the Holy Spirit. Because
Confirmation perfects our baptism, we are obliged to receive it
"in due time." All those who have been baptized are eligible to
be confirmed. If the confirmation is not received immediately
after Baptism, the candidate for Confirmation must be in a state
of grace. He or she should participate in the Sacrament of Confession before Confirmation. Any Catholic who did not receive
Confirmation at baptism or as part of his religious education
during grade school or high school should contact our Parish
Religious Education Office and arrange to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Who Administers Confirmation?
Confirmation is a Sacrament of mature Christian Commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. While the Bishop
is the main celebrant of Confirmation, priests can be authorized
by their bishops to perform confirmation, and adult converts are
routinely baptized and confirmed by priests.
What are the effects of the sacrament of Confirmation?
The Catechism of the Catholic Church lists five effects
of Confirmation: (1) it roots us more deeply in the divine filiation (as sons of God) which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!"; (2)
it unites us more firmly to Christ; (3) it increases the gifts of the
Holy Spirit in us; (4) it renders our bond with the Church more
perfect; (5) it gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to
spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses
of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be
ashamed of the Cross.
Do we need the encounter of the Holy Spirit today?
The Sacrament of Confirmation gives the confirmed an
indelible mark that cannot be erased by sin. In other words,
when we receive the Holy Spirit, he does not leave us but
dwells with us throughout life. We can never receive more of
him than we did in our Baptism but he can have more grasp of
us than he has now. We all need this dwelling presence because
left on our own we are prone to mistakes and errors…
ENCUENTRO CON DIOS EN EL SACRAMENTO (5)
Confirmación
La venida de Jesús marcó la morada de Dios con su
pueblo. Pero cuando llegó el momento que regresara al Padre
(Juan 14:15-17), Jesús prometió enviar al Espíritu Santo, otro
abogado, a los creyentes. De esta manera, Dios continuaría
morando con los creyentes para siempre, y a través de ellos dar
testimonio al mensaje de salvación (Hch 1:8). Esto se cumplió
en Pentecostés cuando el Espíritu Santo lanzó su carpa entre los
creyentes. Como la introducción al Rito de Confirmación declara: "por el Sacramento de la Confirmación, (los bautizados)
son más perfectamente enlazado a la Iglesia y se enriquecen con
una fuerza especial del Espíritu Santo. Por lo tanto, como verdaderos testigos de Cristo, obligados más estrictamente a difundir y defender la fe con palabras y hechos.” A través de la imposición de manos y unción que simboliza en el paso de la energía (1 Sam 10:1-9), el creyente recibe el Espíritu Santo y sellado con El (Ef 4:30en un lazo de amor y unidad.
¿Cómo es la Confirmación la perfección del bautismo?
Confirmación es considerada como la perfección de
bautismo, porque en el bautismo recibimos el Espíritu Santo por
primera vez y en la confirmación no recibimos el Espíritu Santo, en cambio, recibimos una gracia adicional del Espíritu Santo. Porque confirmación perfecciona nuestro bautismo, estamos
obligados a recibirlo “en debido tiempo”. Todos aquellos que
han sido bautizados son elegibles para ser confirmados. Si la
confirmación no es recibida inmediatamente después del bautismo, el candidato para la confirmación debe estar en estado de
gracia. Él o ella debe participar en el Sacramento de la Confesión antes de la Confirmación. Cualquier católico que no ha
recibio la Confirmación de Bautismo como parte de su educación religiosa durante la escuela primaria o secundaria debe
llamar a la oficina de Educación Religiosa y hacer arreglos para
recibir el Sacramento de Confirmación.
Quien Administra la Confirmacion?
La Confirmación es un Sacramento del compromiso
de madures Cristiana y una profundización de los regalos bautismales. Mientras que el Obispo es el celebrante principal de la
confirmación, los sacerdotes pueden ser autorizados por sus

El Catecismo de la iglesia católica enumera cinco efectos de confirmación: (1) nos hace las raíces más profundamente

llorar, “Abba Padre”!; (2) nos une más firmemente a Cristo; (3)
aumenta los dones del Espíritu Santo en nosotros; (4) hace más
perfecto nuestro vínculo con la iglesia (5) nos da una fuerza
especial del Espíritu Santo para difundir y defender la fe por
palabra y acción como verdaderos testigos de Cristo, para confesar valientemente el nombre de Cristo, y nunca avergonzarnos
de la Cruz..
Necesitamos el encuentro del Espíritu Santo hoy?
El Sacramento de confirmación da por confirmado una marca
indeleble que no puede ser borrada por el pecado. En otras
palabras, cuando recibimos el Espíritu Santo , Él no nos deja
pero habita con nosotros durante toda la vida. No podemos recibir más de lo que ya recibimos en nuestro bautismo pero tiene
mas alcance de nosotros ahora. Todos necesitamos morar en
esta presencia porque dejandonos solos estamos propensos a
errores y faltas...

Adapted for Children
Children (ages 7-11) who are interested in joining the Catholic
Church are invited to par cipate in the RCIA adapted for children. The goal is to provide a means of conversion suited to the
children’s age and understanding, and to prepare them for the
recep on of the Sacraments of Chris an Ini a on (Bap sm,
Eucharist and Confirma on). Parents and sponsors share a loving journey with
the children, a ending sessions with them and assis ng them as they learn about
Jesus and the Church, and ensuring that they experience a Catholic environment
at home. To par cipate more fully in this journey, all join in parish ritual celebraons, including the Easter Vigil. Sessions begin in September. Registra ons will be

Adaptado para Niños
Niños de la edad de 7-11 años que estén interesados en unirse a la Iglesia Catolica
están invitados a par cipar en RICA adaptado para niños. La meta es proveer los
medios de conversión a nivel de la edad de los niños y entendimiento, y para
prepararlos para la recepción de los Sacramentos de Iniciación Cris ana
(Bau smo, Primera Comunion y Confirmación). Padres y Padrinos comparten una
jornada de amor con el niño, asis endo a sesiones con ellos y asis éndoles mientras aprenden de Jesús y la Iglesia, y asegurándose de que experimenten un ambiente Católico en casa. Para par cipar mas afondo de esta jornada, todos se

Miss Parish Fest 2014
As part of the ac vi es leading up to our Parish-Fest
this September, all young ladies ages 15 to 18 years are
invited to par cipate in a pageant compe on to be the
Miss Parish-Fest, 2014. Registra on forms are available
in the parish office in Fontana. The three finalists will
receive their respec ve crowns and sashes, including
other fringe benefits. The contest will feature experts
that will help you express your talents in modeling,
public speaking and personal enrichment classes.
Como parte de las ac vidades previas a nuestra Fiesta Parroquial
para el mes de sep embre, todas las jóvencitas de 15 a 18 años
están invitadas a par cipar en un concurso para ser la Reina de nuestra Fiesta Parroquial 2014. Formularios de inscripción están disponibles en la oficina parroquial de Fontana. Las tres finalistas recibirán
sus respec vas coronas y banadas, entre otros premios. El concurso
contará con expertos que le ayudarán a expresar su talento en modelaje,oratoria y clases de enriquecimiento personal.

your clean usable items and dropping them off in
front of the Fontana parish hall. Clothes, Toys &

24th Anniversary of Ordination is this Sunday,
August 3rd. We at St. John XXIII wish Fr. Beto a very
Happy Anniversary. We ask our Lord’s continued
blessings upon him.

Padre Adalberto Jeronimo es este domingo 3 de
