Ferguson Heart to Heart Talk
The city of Ferguson, MO, became the center of
national attention in August 2014. The death of
young African American Michael Brown, during
an altercation with police, showed the disparity
and racial tension that continues even affecting
this nation and thereby to our community.
We invite you to a “Heart to Heart Talk”, where
we will analyze the problematic of Ferguson and
its implications for our nation.
Will be with us Father John O'Brien and Sister
Cathy Doherty, SSND, from the Hispanic parish
of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Ferguson), and Father
Arthur Cavitt, executive director of St. Charles
Lwanga Center in St. Louis.
The event will take place in Ferguson Brewing Co.
Cost per person is $40.00, includes dinner and
two hours of open bar for beer, house wines and
soft drinks. Tax and gratuity included.
La ciudad de Ferguson, MO, se convirtió en el
centro de atención nacional en agosto del 2014.
La muerte del joven afro-americano Michael
Brown, durante un altercado con un policía,
evidenció la disparidad y tensión racial que aún
continúa afectando a esta nación, y por ende,
a nuestras comunidades.
Te invitamos a una charla, “Corazón a Corazón”,
donde analizaremos la problemática de Ferguson
y sus repercusiones para nuestro pueblo.
Nos acompañarán el Padre John O’Brien y la
Hna. Cathy Doherty, SSND, de la parroquia
hispana de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (en
Ferguson), y el Padre Arthur Cavitt, director
ejecutivo del Centro St. Charles Lwanga,
en St. Louis.
El evento se llevará a cabo en la cervecería

Vicar for the Eastern Vicariate, Vicar for the Hispanic Apostolate
Bishop Nelson Pérez was born in Miami, Florida,
June 16th, 1961 to parents David and Emma Pérez.
He was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1989.
In 1998, Father Pérez was named Chaplain to His
Holiness Pope John Paul II with the title of monsignor.
In 2009, he was made a prelate of honor. On June 8,
2012, Pope Benedict XVI named Msgr. Pérez an
Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
Msgr. Pérez and Msgr. Robert Brennan were
ordained as bishops in Saint Agnes Cathedral on
July 25, 2012, the Feast of Saint James the Apostle.

El Obispo Nelson Pérez nació en Miami, Florida, el 16
de junio de 1961. Sus padres David y Emma Pérez.
Fue ordenado sacerdote el 20 de mayo de 1989.
En 1998, el padre Pérez fue nombrado Capellán de
Su Santidad el Papa Juan Pablo II con el título de
Monseñor. En 2009, fue nombrado prelado de honor.
El 8 de junio de 2012, el Papa Benedicto XVI nombró
a Monseñor Pérez Obispo Auxiliar de la diócesis de
Rockville Centre. Mons. Pérez y Mons. Robert Brennan
fueron ordenados como obispos en la Catedral de
Saint Agnes el 25 de julio de 2012, la Fiesta de
Santiago Apóstol.
