NOTICE TO INMATES
VOLUNTARY HIV/AIDS TESTING
Recent advances in medical science have now shown that Human Immunodeficiency Virus
disease, commonly known as AIDS, may be dramatically affected by early discovery and
prophylactic treatment with certain drugs. There are medicines available today that can prolong
useful life and delay the progression of HIV disease.
The Department of Corrections is prepared to offer such testing for the presence of the HIV or
AIDS virus on a voluntary basis to all inmates. You must have more than 60 days remaining to
your EOS (Expiration of Sentence). If any of the following risk factors are present in your
lifestyle or health history, you may have contracted the virus, and you may be a candidate to
receive early medication.
1. Men who have had sex with another man.
2. Men or women who traded sex for money or drugs.
3. Intravenous drug users.
4. Individuals with a history of sexually transmitted diseases (VD) or who have had
multiple sexual partners.
5. Those who received blood transfusions or blood products before 1985.
6. Sexual contacts with any of the above groups.
7. History of Tuberculosis.
8. History of Hepatitis.
Contact clinic personnel to schedule an appointment for testing and required
counseling.

PRUEBAS VOLUNTARIAS PARA DETECTAR HIV
(AIDS o SIDA)
Investigaciones recientes en el campo de la medicina han demonstrado que el sindrome de
immunodeficiencia adquirida, mejor conocido como SIDA (AIDS), puede ser favorablemente
afectado en su curso si se descubre temprano y se trata con ciertas medicinas en forma
profilactica. En el presente existen medicamentos que pueden prolongar la vida y prevenir el
progreso de el SIDA.
El Departmento de Correcciones ya esta preparado para ofrecer pruebas para detectar la
prescencia temprana del virus del AIDS (VIH). Estas pruebas son voluntarias para aquellos
reclusos que residen en una institucion, cuya estadia minima restante en la prision (EOS) es por
lo menos de 60 dias. Si alguno de los siguientes factores de riesgo se encuentran presentes en su
estilo de vida o historia medica, existe la posibilidad de que usted haya contraido el virus y puede
que entonces usted sea un candidato para recibir la medicina profilactica.
1. Hombres que han tenido relaciones sexuales con otros hombres.
2. Hombres o mujeres que cambiaron sexo por dinero o drogas.
3. Personas que usan drogas ilegales y se las inyectan por las venas.
4. Individuos con historia de enfermedades que se transmiten sexualmente (venereas) o
que tienen multiples parejas sexuales.
5. Individuos que recibieron transfusiones de sangre ante el ano 1985.
6. Contactos sexuales de cualesquiera de los grupos anteriores.
7. Historia de Tuberculosis.
8. Historia de Hepatitis.
Favor de comunicarse con cualquier miembro del personal de salud para solicitar
cita para hacerse la prueba y recibir consejo medico.
