World Youth Day
This coming week from July 25 through July
31st, young people throughout the world will be
gathering in Krakow, Poland for World Youth Day.
This year's site is significant since Krakow was
where St. Pope John Paul II served as archbishop
from 1964-78 prior to becoming pope. He
inaugurated World Youth Day during his pontificate
on December 20, 1985 and the first World Youth
Day international gathering was held in Rome in
1986.
Somewhat like the Olympics in which
different countries serve as the host site, World
Youth Day celebrations invite young people to attend
and encounter Christ in events organized by clergy,
religious, and laity. Over the past 30 years, World
Youth Day attendees have committed themselves to
participate and serve in the mission and life of the
Catholic Church, including vocations to the
priesthood, religious life, and lay ministry.
Previous sites for World Youth Day have
been Rome, Italy (1986): Buneos Aires, Argentina
(1987): Santiago de Compostela, Spain (1989);
Czestochowa, Poland (1991); Denver, Colorado, USA
(1993); Manila, Philippines (1995); Paris France
(1997); Rome, Italy (2000); Toronto, Canada (2002);
Cologne, Germany (2005); Sydney, Australia (2008);
Madrid, Spain (2011); Rio de Janeiro (2013).
Fourteen years ago at the evening prayer
vigil in Toronto, the last international World Youth
Day that Pope John Paul II attended, he noted::
"When, back in 1985, I wanted to start the
World Youth Days ... I imagined a powerful moment
in which the young people of the world could meet
Christ, who is eternally young and could learn from
him to be bearers of the Gospel to other young people.
This evening, together with you, I praise God and
give thanks to him for the gift bestowed on the
Church through the World Youth Days. Millions of
young people have taken part, and as a result have
become better and more committed Christian
witnesses."
Saint Pope John Paul II left a lasting legacy
for young people with his institution of World Youth
Day. Both of his successors, Pope Benedict XVI and
Pope Francis have continued these world-wide
gatherings to invite and commission young people to
be Christ's contemporary disciples and faithful living
witnesses of the Gospel message in their lives.
May we remember in our prayers this week
the young people from all over the world who will be
gathering in Krakow including pilgrims from our
Archdiocese who will be attending World Youth Day
2016.
Did You Know?
In the Roman Church calendar, July 26th is
considered The Feast of Grandparents since this is the
day that recalls and celebrates the lives and example
of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of Mary, the
mother of Jesus. While they are much beloved in the
Church’s history and tradition, there is no biblical
reference about them.
According to ancient tradition, Anne and her
husband Joachim were married for many years and
were childless. Similar to other Scriptural examples
of divine intervention to childless couples, an angel
appeared to Joachim and Anne and brought them a
message that they would become the parents of a child
who “shall be spoken of all in the world.” They had a
little girl and named her Mary.
In the Canadian province of Quebec on the
north shore of the St. Lawrence River near Quebec
City is the site of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine.
The first chapel was built in 1685 and the present
shrine was constructed in 1923. Sainte-Anne-deBeaupré Shrine attracts more than a million pilgrims
and visitors annually.
Parish Religious Education
Program Registration
While September and the school year may
seem some time away, it is not too early to register
children in the St. John-Visitation School of Religion
Program. Classes are offered for students not
attending Catholic Schools and whose families desire
assistance with religious instruction and sacramental
preparation. Classes are held on Saturdays for
students from Grade One to High School.

Coordinator for Religious Education, for further

First Holy Communion Certificates
Families whose children who celebrated First
Holy Eucharist this Spring are reminded that First
Holy Communion certificates may be picked up at the
St. John-Visitation Parish office.
Sant'Egidio Wednesday Evening Prayer Service
for World Peace
Recent and ongoing acts of terrorism and
aggression upon innocent human life are reminders
that our world is full of tensions and violence and we
often do not know what to do.
The Community of Sant’Egidio feels that every
Christian can work for peace and the first work of
peace is prayer.
Join us to pray for peace every first
Wednesday of the month (August 3, September 7) at
7:00pm in the chapel at the St. John-Visitation Parish
Pastoral Center (275 West 230 St.)

Washroom Repairs
This summer, work will be done to upgrade
the washrooms at St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral
Center. The existing women's washroom in the
lower level will be renovated and a new men's
washroom be constructed. Given the number of
groups that meet and use the Parish Pastoral Center,
this necessary building improvement will be greatly
welcomed.
Meeting Space Requests
Parish organizations, groups, and societies
who would like to schedule meetings are asked to go
to the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral Center to
submit request forms. Advance notice helps with
planning and allocating available meeting spaces.
Lost & Found
Various items (prayer books, clothing items,
eyeglasses, devotional items, etc.) that have been
found and left in both the upper and lower church are
turned in at our "lost and found" box in the sacristy.
If you think that you may have lost something or
misplaced item at our parish, please check the "lost
and found" box in the church sacristy. We have a
collection of items waiting to be claimed and retrieved
by the rightful owner.
La Jornada Mundial de la Juventud
Este fin de semana del 25 de julio a 31 de julio, los
jóvenes de todo el mundo se reunirán en Cracovia
(Polonia), para la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud. Este
año el sitio es significativo desde Cracovia fue donde San
Juan Pablo II sirvió como arzobispo de 1964-78 antes de
convertirse en papa. Él inauguró la Jornada Mundial de la
Juventud, durante su pontificado, el 20 de diciembre de
1985 y la primera reunión internacional de la Jornada
Mundial de la Juventud se celebró en Roma en 1986.
Algo así como los Juegos Olímpicos, en que diferentes
países sirven como lugar de acogida, las celebraciones de la

Hace 14 años que en la vigilia de la noche en
Toronto, la última Jornada Mundial de la juventud
internacional que el Papa Juan Pablo II asistió, señaló::
"En 1985, quise iniciar las Jornadas Mundiales
de la juventud... Me imaginé un momento fuerte en el que
los jóvenes del mundo pudieran encontrarse con Cristo,
eternamente joven y podría aprender de él a ser los
evangelizadores de los demás jóvenes. Esta noche,
juntamente con vosotros, doy gracias a Dios y darle
gracias por el don que ha hecho a la Iglesia a través de las
Jornadas Mundiales de la juventud. Millones de jóvenes
han tomado parte, y como resultado se han vuelto mejores
y más comprometidos testimonio cristiano".
San Juan Pablo II dejó herencia de duración para
los jóvenes con su institución de la Jornada de la Juventud
Mundial. Ambos de sus sucesores, el Papa Benedicto XVI
y Francisco han seguido estos encuentros en todo el mundo
para invitar a los jóvenes y las comisiones de ser discípulos
y testigos contemporáneos que viven fieles del mensaje del
Evangelio en sus vidas a Cristo.
Que recordemos en nuestras oraciones esta semana los
jóvenes de todo el mundo que se reunirán en Cracovia
incluyendo peregrinos de nuestra Arquidiócesis que
asistirán a la Jornada de la Juventud 2016.
¿Sabías?
En el calendario de la Iglesia romana 26 de
julio Se considera la Fiesta de los abuelos ya que este
es el día que recuerda y celebra la vida y el ejemplo de
los Santos Joaquín y Ana, los padres de María, la
madre de Jesús. Si bien son muy querido en la
historia y la tradición de la Iglesia, no hay ninguna
referencia bíblica acerca de ellos.
Según una antigua tradición, Ana y su
marido Joaquín estaban casados por muchos años y
no tenían hijos. Al igual que en otros ejemplos
bíblicos de la intervención divina para parejas sin
hijos, un ángel se apareció a Joaquín y Ana y los trajo
un mensaje que se convertirán en los padres de un
niño que "se habla de todo en el mundo." Tenían una
niña y por nombre María.
En la provincia canadiense de Quebec en la
orilla norte del río San Lorenzo, cerca de Quebec es el
sitio de Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré santuario. La
primera capilla fue construida en 1685 y el actual
santuario se construyó en 1923. Sainte-Anne-deBeaupré santuario atrae a más de un millón de
peregrinos y visitantes al año.
Educación Religiosa Parroquial
Programa Registraciones
Mientras septiembre y el año escolar pueden
parecer un tiempo lejos, no es demasiado pronto para
registrar a los niños en el St. John-Visitación Escuela de
programa de religión. Las clases se ofrecen para los
estudiantes que no asisten a las escuelas católicas y cuyas
familias desean ayuda con la instrucción religiosa y la
preparación sacramental. Las clases se imparten los
sábados para los estudiantes de primer grado hasta la
escuela secundaria.

Certificados de Primera Comunión
Las familias cuyos hijos que celebraron la primera
Eucaristía en esta primavera, se les recuerda que los
certificados de la Primera Comunión se podrán recoger en
la oficina de la parroquia St. John-Visitation.
Miércoles Sant'Egidio Servicio de Oración de la
Tarde para la Paz Mundial
Si nuestro mundo está lleno de tensiones y la
violencia y muchas veces no sabemos qué hacer,
la Comunidad de Sant'Egidio siente que todos los
cristianos pueden trabajar por la paz y la primera obra de
la paz es la oración.
Únase con nosotros para orar por la paz cada
primer miércoles del mes (6 de julio, 3 de agosto, 7 de
septiembre) a las 7:00 pm en la capilla del Centro Pastoral
St. John-Visitation (275 West 230 St.)

Próximas Reparaciones de Baños
Este verano, se trabajará para mejorar los aseos en
St. John-Visitation Centro Pastoral Parroquial. El baño de
mujeres existentes en el nivel inferior será renovado y un
nuevo baño de hombres se construye. Dado el número de
grupos que se reúnen y utilizan el Centro Pastoral
Parroquial, esta mejora necesaria será muy bien acogida.
Espacio para Reuniones
Organizaciones parroquiales, los grupos y las
sociedades que deseen programar reuniones se les pide que
vaya a la St. John-Visitation Centro Pastoral para someter
el formulario de solicitud. Aviso anticipado ayuda con la
planificación y la asignación de espacios para reuniones.
Artículos Perdidos y Encontrados
Varios artículos (libros de oraciones, artículos de
ropa, lentes, artículos devocionales, etc.) que se han
encontrado y que quedan en la iglesia tanto superior e
inferior son entregados a nuestra casilla de "objetos
perdidos" en la sacristía. Si usted piensa que puede haber
perdido algo o elemento fuera de lugar en nuestra
parroquia, por favor chequear la casilla de "objetos
perdidos" en la sacristía de la iglesia. Tenemos una
colección de artículos a la espera de ser reclamado y
recuperado por el propietario legítimo.
