Shuttle Bus Service for Christmas Day
Arrangements have been made with
SuperTrans, the bus company that transports
parishioners on Sundays, to have the shuttle bus service
on Christmas Day for the 8:30 am and 11:30 am Masses.
Our parish is grateful to SuperTrans for making available
the bus service on Christmas Day.
Christmas Flowers
Specially marked envelopes are available in the
church for those who wish to donate with the upcoming
decoration of both the upper and lower church for
Christmas with flowers and poinsettias.
Christmas Charity Drive
Many thanks to all who have generously
responded with donations of new toys, gift cards, and
new clothing for children, youth, and families assisted by
the outreach mission of Good Shepherd Services.
Monday December 21st will be the last day for dropping
off items so that the gifts may be given to families in time
for Christmas.
Religious Christmas Cards
As a way to promote the true reason for the holy
season and "To Keep Christ in Christmas", boxed sets of
assorted religious Christmas cards, both in English and
Spanish are available for purchase at the St. JohnVisitation Parish Pastoral Center. Cost is $5.00 per box.
Scheduling Changes
The St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral Center
will close on Thursday December 24th (Christmas Eve) at
1:00 pm and will reopen on Monday December 28th at
9:00 pm
On Monday December 28th, Tuesday December
29th, and Wednesday December 30th, the parish offices
and pastoral center will be open from 9:00 am-12:00 noon
and 1:00-4:00 pm. Please note there will be no evening
hours. Also, the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral
Center will be closed on Thursday December 31st (New
Year's Eve) and will reopen on Monday January 4, 2016.
The St. John-Visitation Parish Staff extend to
you and yours our prayerful best wishes during this holy
season.
A Joyous Parish Celebration
Our parish was truly blessed with the presence of
Cardinal Dolan this past Saturday December 12th to
celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and
Gaudete Sunday, the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Cardinal
Dolan expressed his gratitude for the inspiring liturgical
celebration and the wonderful gathering to meet and
greet people. He noted the fine quality and lively music,
the enthusiastic multi-cultural diversity and welcoming
spirit of our parish community, the inter-generational
participation, and the fine pastoral and charitable
outreach to the Kingsbridge neighborhood. He was very
pleased to visit a merged parish community in which
there is the vibrancy that the Making All Things New
pastoral parish planning envisioned. Also, he was greatly
impressed by the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral
Center.
Many remarked about Cardinal Dolan's friendly
and warm demeanor, his interest and willingness to
spend time with others, posing for photos along with
offering personal prayers and blessings. Cardinal Dolan
models well the type of pastoral leadership that Pope
Francis desires for clergy and church hierarchy. Our
Archdiocese is blessed to have him as our archbishop.
We greatly appreciate the time that Cardinal
Dolan spent with us and having the opportunity to meet
him personally. While Cardinal Dolan is invigorated by his
pastoral visits to parishes throughout the Archdiocese, he
needs our continued prayers and support in these difficult
and challenging times for those entrusted with pastoral
leadership. You may want to consider sending him a note
of thanks for visiting us or a Christmas greeting.
While the fleeting moments of this joyous parish
occasion of a personal encounter with Cardinal Dolan
becomes a memory, may we continue to experience and
live the blessings of this grace-filled time as the Catholic
community of Kingsbridge.

Cardinal Dolan has designated the following the
shrines and churches in the Archdiocese of New York as
holy sites and place of pilgrimage where a Holy Door, a
Door of Mercy will be opened and where all the faithful
may obtain the Jubilee Indulgence:

A Year of Mercy pamphlets and Pope Francis'
Prayer for the Jubilee of Mercy are available in the church,
both in English and Spanish.
Did You Know?
Since we will be decorating our Church with
poinsettias for Christmas, it may be interesting to
consider the origin of this custom.
The poinsettia was a plant called by the Mexicans as the
“Flower of the Holy Night” primarily for its bright, starlike flowers that are a reminder of the Star of Bethlehem.
Dr. Joel Poinsett, the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico brought
this plant back when he returned home in 1829 and soon
this plant became used in other parts of the world for
Christmas decorations and was named after him.

Evento de Caridad Navideño
Muchas gracias a todos los que generosamente
han respondido con donaciones de juguetes nuevos,
tarjetas de regalo y ropa nueva para los niños, jóvenes y
familias atendidas por la misión de difusión de Good
Shepherd Services. Lunes 21 de diciembre será el último
día para dejar los elementos para que los regalos se

El Centro Pastoral Parroquial cerrará el
jueves 24 de diciembre (Nochebuena) a las 1:00 pm
y reabrirá el lunes 28 de diciembre a las 9:00 pm
El lunes 28 de diciembre, martes 29 de diciembre, y
el miércoles 30 de diciembre, las oficinas de la
parroquia y centro pastoral estarán abiertas de 9:00
am-12:00 mediodía y 1:00-4:00 PM. Tenga en
cuenta que no habrá horas de la noche. Además, el
Centro Pastoral Parroquial se cerrará el 31 de

El Año de la Misericordia
Cardenal Dolan ha designado la siguiente

Oración de Papa Francisco para el Jubileo de la

¿Sabías?
Desde estaremos decorando nuestra Iglesia
con flores de pascua para la Navidad, puede ser
interesante tener en cuenta el origen de esta
costumbre.
La flor de pascua era una planta llamada por
los mexicanos como la "flor de la Nochebuena"
principalmente por sus brillantes flores, estrellas,
como que son un recordatorio de la Estrella de
Belén.
Dr. Joel Poinsett, embajador de Estados
Unidos en México trajo esta planta atrás cuando él
volvió a casa en 1829 y pronto se convirtió en esta
planta utiliza en otras partes del mundo para las
decoraciones de Navidad y fue nombrado después
de él.
Una alegre celebración parroquial
Nuestra parroquia fue verdaderamente
bendecida con la presencia del Cardenal Dolan, el
pasado sábado 12 de diciembre para celebrar la
Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y Domingo
de Gaudete, el 3er domingo de Adviento. Cardenal
Dolan expresó su agradecimiento por la celebración
litúrgica inspirador y el maravilloso encuentro para
conocer y saludar a la gente. Señaló la gran calidad y
música en vivo, la diversidad multicultural entusiasta
y espíritu de bienvenida de nuestra comunidad
parroquial, la participación intergeneracional, y de la
pastoral y caritativa bien al barrio Kingsbridge. Él
estaba muy contento de visitar una comunidad
parroquial fusionada en el que existe la vitalidad que
la todas las cosas nuevas la planificación pastoral
parroquial previsto. También, él quedó muy
impresionado por el Centro Pastoral Parroquial de
San Juan-Visitación.
Muchos comentaron acerca de amistosa y
cálida actitud del Cardenal Dolan, su interés y
voluntad de pasar tiempo con otros, posando para
las fotos junto con ofrecer oraciones personales y
bendiciones. Modelos Cardenal Dolan así el tipo de
liderazgo pastoral que Francisco desea para el clero
y la jerarquía de la iglesia. Nuestra Arquidiócesis es
bendecida de tenerlo como nuestro arzobispo.
Estamos muy agradecidos por el tiempo que el
cardenal Dolan pasó con nosotros y tener la
oportunidad de conocerlo personalmente. Mientras
el cardenal Dolan está vigorizado por sus visitas
pastorales a las parroquias de la Arquidiócesis, que
necesita nuestras continuas oraciones y apoyo en
estos tiempos difíciles y desafiantes para los
encargados de liderazgo pastoral. Es posible que
desee considerar enviarle una nota de
agradecimiento de nosotros o un saludo de Navidad.
Si bien los momentos fugaces de esta ocasión
parroquial alegre de un encuentro personal con el
cardenal Dolan se convierten en una memoria, podemos
seguir experimentando y vivir las bendiciones de este
tiempo lleno de gracia como la comunidad católica de
Kingsbridge.
