Monday August 15th: The Assumption of
Mary
The Assumption of Mary was formally
promulgated as a dogma of the Church by Pope Pius
XII on November 1,1950 in the apostolic
constitution Munificentissimus Deus by
exercising papal infallibility. The fourth Glorious
Mystery of the Rosary recalls the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven and the Church
annually celebrates this day on August 15th.
While the Solemnity of the Assumption of
Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the six holy days of
obligation observed in the United States, it is not a
holy day of obligation this year since it falls on
Monday. With exception of Christmas and the
Immaculate Conception, when a holy day occurs on a
Saturday or Monday, the obligation is transferred to
Sunday as set forth by the United States Conference
of Catholic Bishops.
Even though it is not a holy day of
obligation, St. John-Visitation Parish will be
celebrating three Masses on Monday August 15th for
the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed
Virgin Mary.

Join in the Mission of The Society for the
Propagation of the Faith
As disciples of Jesus, baptized into the
Church and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we are
called to draw others to Christ: others in our family,
in our neighborhoods, others, even "to the ends of the
earth." More than 2,000 years after the birth of
Jesus, 2/3 part of our world do not yet know Him in
faith as we do.
Through The Society of the Propagation of
the Faith, we can reach those at work at "the ends of
the earth" as we help support the Church's
evangelizing work in more than 1,150 mission
dioceses worldwide. Daily prayer and financial
assistance are ways to help with this mission.
Marilyn Santos will be speaking at all our
parish Masses this weekend on behalf of The Society
for the Propagation of the Faith. Specially marked
envelopes are available in the church for your mission
gift. Your response is greatly appreciated.

with serving the spiritual, liturgical, and pastoral
needs of our Catholic community in Kingsbridge.

Parish Religious Education Program
Registration
With September and the new school year
approaching, now is the time to register children in
the St. John-Visitation School of Religion Program.
Classes are offered for students not attending
Catholic Schools and whose families desire assistance
with religious instruction and sacramental
preparation. Classes are held on Saturdays for
students from Grade One to High School.

Coordinator for Religious Education, for further

Summer Change in Evening Hours at Parish
Pastoral Center
The St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral
Center will be open only two weekday evenings
Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00-9:00 pm during the
summer months through early September. Please
note that there will be no Wednesday and Friday
evening hours of operation. The morning, afternoon,
and weekend schedule will remain the same.
Meeting Space Requests
Parish organizations, groups, and societies
who would like to schedule meetings are asked to go
to the St. John-Visitation Parish Pastoral Center to
submit request forms. Advance notice helps with
planning and allocating available meeting spaces.
Prayer For Those Seeking Public Office
With the upcoming November elections in
which candidates are presently seeking to serve our
national government in public office, may we
remember to pray for them and our nation in the
coming months ahead.
Almighty ever-living God,
in whose hand lies every human heart
and the rights of peoples,
look with favor, we pray,
on those who are seeking to govern
with authority over us,
that throughout the whole world
the prosperity of peoples,
the assurance of peace,
and freedom of religion
may through your gift be made secure.

Lunes 15 de Agosto: La Asunción de María
La Asunción de María se promulgó
formalmente como un dogma de la Iglesia por el Papa
Pío XII de noviembre 1,1950 en la constitución
apostólica Deus Munificentissimus ejercitando la
infalibilidad papal. El cuarto misterio glorioso del
Rosario recuerda la Asunción de la Virgen María al
Cielo y la Iglesia anualmente celebra el día 15 de
agosto.

Educación Religiosa Parroquial
Programa Registraciones
Mientras septiembre y el año escolar pueden
parecer un tiempo lejos, no es demasiado pronto para
registrar a los niños en el St. John-Visitación Escuela
de programa de religión. Las clases se ofrecen para los
estudiantes que no asisten a las escuelas católicas y
cuyas familias desean ayuda con la instrucción
religiosa y la preparación sacramental. Las clases se
imparten los sábados para los estudiantes de primer
grado hasta la escuela secundaria.
