An update on redevelopment plans from the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA)
The next Manning revitalization meeting will be on
Monday, March 28 at 6 pm in the community room.
New Unit Numbering System
for Renovated Apartments
The architects, contractors, and CHA staff
have been working on a new numbering
system for the apartments that will go
into effect with each completed phase of
construction. This proposed change has the
following benefits:
• It will use all numbers and no letters,
which the Post Office strongly prefers.
• It allows all of the numbers to line up
cleanly in vertical stacks across the entire
building and creates an “odd side of the
hallway” and “even side of the hallway”
on every floor. This will make it easier
for residents, visitors, and emergency
responders to quickly find apartments in
the building.
• It incorporates the new apartments on
the second floor into the numbering
system.
These changes will go into effect with
each phase that comes back online after
renovation. The old numbering system –
including door numbers, mailbox numbers,
and hallway signs -- will remain the same
for those parts of the building not yet under
renovation. CHA will cover any of the costs
associated with address changes for residents
moving into the new apartments.

We will discuss this further at the next
modernization meeting and look forward to
getting your feedback.

Interior Apartment Finishes
The architects and CHA staff are in the
process of selecting the final materials for
the apartment interiors -- the floor, the
kitchen cabinets, the kitchen counter, and
other surfaces. There will be samples of the
materials posted this week in the community
room for residents to see. Please take a look at
the samples and bring any feedback you have
to the resident meeting on Monday.
Exterior Construction
Phasing Plan
As you may have heard from our construction
team, the contractor will be cutting the
“concrete fins” outside your window as part
of the construction of the new façade. We are
building the new window system over the
current window system, so the contractors are
able to do this work outside of an apartment
that is still occupied. Please see the phasing
chart and drawing in the attached handout
“Manning Apartments Exterior Construction
Phasing Plan” to better understand what
we are doing and when this is expected to
happen outside your apartment.
The contractor will only need to enter your
apartment briefly to take precautions so
that no dust enters your apartment. The
construction team will make sure you have
plenty of information and are clear as to what
day this will happen to your apartment.
