CONGRESS. Today, Sunday February 28, 2016 soon after
Friday the way of the Cross will begin at 6.30p.m. in
English.
11.00 a.m. Mass in Spanish, beginning from 1.00p.m. –
6.00p.m. we shall have our Congress “Come experience the
infinite Mercy of God” Place : St. Angela Merici Church,
Entrance Fee : $15.00 lunch included. Speakers: Roberto

LENTEN MISSION IN ENGLISH: This year’s Lenten
Mission is scheduled to take place on Tuesday March 15,
2016 beginning from 7.00p.m with a Mass. Come and
experience the power of the word of God.
LENTEN FAST : During the Season of Lent, the Church
urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily
lives through performing acts of faith and abstinence.
FASTING: Requires that only one full meal be taken per
day. Two other smaller meals may be taken during the day
to maintain physical strength, but these two meals
together should not equal a full meal in quantity. Nor is
there eating between meals. Fasting obliges all those who
have reached the age of 18 and continues to oblige
through age 59. Those who are not specifically obliged to
fast are encouraged to join in the discipline of fasting to
the
extent
that
they
are
able.
THE CARDINAL’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHP APPEAL
2016: Every year, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of
New York Archdiocese asks parishioners to support him
financially. Saint Angela Merici Church has always
responded generously and exceeded our annual goal. As a
parish our goal this year is $14, 000. We please ask every
parishioner to respond freely, generously and on time so
that we may reach our goal quickly and easily. Envelopes
for Cardinal’s Appeal are provided at the back of the
church for your convenience. Thank you very much for
your positive response.
ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT: In his widely
ABSTINENCE:
Abstinence prohibits individuals from
eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence obliges all
those who have reached the age of 14 and continues to
oblige throughout their lives. Those who are not
specifically obliged to abstain from eating meat are
encouraged to join in the disciple of abstaining to the
extent
that
they
are
able.
ALMSGIVING: Is a charitable action of giving help
(money, food, clothes, household items etc to the needy
and church. The needy include orphans, widows, the sick,
elderly, immigrants… with the aim of alleviating their
sufferings out of the love for Christ and neighbor. May

the

and

A PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND AND ITALY: A
pilgrimage to the holy land and Italy has been scheduled to
take place from May 1st 2016 to May 14th 2016. The total
cost, including the airline ticket is $ 3989.00. It will be a
great holy trip with the spiritual direction of Fr. Nestorio
Agirembabazi, A.J., our pastor who will be traveling with

PILGRIMAGE TO DIVINE MERCY SHRINE.: On Saturday
April 2, 2016, there will be pilgrimage to Divine Mercy
Shrine in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The bus will
leave from St. Angela Merici Church at 6.30a.m. and
return at 5.00p.m. The cost is $50.00 only. Please
bring with you food. There will be Mass at the

The parable Jesus tells in today's Gospel is unique to the
Gospel of Luke. Jesus has been teaching the crowds as he
journeys to Jerusalem. As he teaches, the Pharisees and
scribes complain and challenge Jesus because he is
welcoming sinners at his table. Today we hear the third of
three parables that Jesus tells in response to his critics.
These three familiar parables—the lost sheep, the lost
coin, and today's parable of the prodigal son—invite us to
consider the depth of God's mercy and love.
The Pharisees taught a scrupulous observance of Jewish
Law. In their interpretation and practice, observant Jews
who shared table fellowship with sinners would be made
unclean. Like Jesus, the Pharisees hoped to lead sinners
back to God. The Pharisees, however, required that sinners
first become ritually clean—observant of the Pharisees'
interpretation of Jewish Law—before sharing table
fellowship. This appears to be one of the major differences
between the Pharisees and Jesus. Jesus reaches out to
sinners while they are still sinners, inviting them to
conversion through fellowship with him. Jesus is God
acting among us; by befriending us, he is inviting us to
return to friendship with God. Through friendship with
Jesus, our sins are forgiven and we, in turn, bear fruit for
God. Recall last Sunday's Gospel and the barren fig tree.
Our familiarity with today's parable risks dulling us to its
tremendously powerful message. We call this the parable
of the lost son or the prodigal son. Any focus on the
younger son, however, must also be balanced by an
examination of the unusual behavior of the father.

CAMPAÑA DEL CARDENAL 2016: Todos los años el
cardenal Timothy Dolan pide a los feligreses en la
Arquidiócesis de Nueva York apoyarlo financieramente a
través de la campaña del cardenal . Santa Ángela Merici
siempre ha respondido con generosidad y buena
disposición, incluso sobrepasando la meta asignada. Este
año la meta asignada es: $ 14,000.00. Los sobres para su
contribución están en la parte atrás de la iglesia. Nosotros
animamos a cada feligrés a participar y responder
rápidamente y con generosidad para que podamos llegar a
nuestra meta con facilidad y rapidez.
ABSTINENCIA: Durante la Cuaresma, la abstinencia de
carne los viernes es obligatoria en los Estados Unidos como
en otras partes, y es pecado no observar esta disciplina
sin una razón seria. La abstinencia debe ser observada por
todos los católicos bautizados que han cumplido sus 14
años.
AYUNO: La ley del ayuno requiere que un católico de 18
años a 59 años, reducir la cantidad de alimentos ingeridos
de lo normal durante la temporada de Cuaresma.
PENITENCIA: De acuerdo con el número 1249 del Canon

El Evangelio de hoy es un completo manual para entender
el camino de la conversión personal. La parábola nos
ofrece todos y cada uno de los aspectos necesarios para
emprender de nuevo el camino de regreso al Padre.
Este Evangelio lo aplicamos con mucha facilidad a las
personas que evidentemente son alejados, personas que
no les vemos en la Iglesia ni en nuestras reuniones, pero
permítanme hermanas y hermanos, que la lectura que yo
haga hoy de este texto sea para aplicarlo a nosotros, a los
que estamos dentro del camino, a los que aparentemente
estamos sin marcharnos de la casa del Padre, pero que sin
embargo la conversión no se ha hecho del todo en
nosotros. Puede ser que este Evangelio desde esta lectura
nos duela más de lo acostumbrado, no en vano todos
somos pecadores. Los que están lejos de Dios y nosotros,
los que estando cerca, quizá no experimentamos (como el
hermano mayor) la grandeza del Dios Padre que tenemos.
Muchas personas se acercan a nosotros buscando al
abrazo de Padre Dios. Nosotros los creyentes tendremos
siempre un camino de vuelta constante al Padre. En
algunas ocasiones nos apartamos bien por despiste o bien
por cansancio, pero ser creyentes es hacer siempre de
nuevo el camino de vuelta.

would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may
feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: Let
everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and
forgiven by God.
