LA ORACIÓN DEL CRISTIANO
EL CAMINO DE LA ORACIÓN
Reflexión Bíblica: Rom 5,1-4
No hay otro camino de oración cristiana que Cristo. Sea comunitaria o individual, vocal o
interior, nuestra oración no tiene acceso al Padre más que si oramos “en el Nombre” de Jesús.
La santa humanidad de Jesús es, pues, el camino por el que el Espíritu Santo nos enseña a orar a Dios nuestro Padre. (CIC
2664)
… Cada vez que en la oración nos dirigimos a Jesús es el Espíritu Santo quien, con su gracia…, nos atrae al camino de la
oración. Puesto que él nos enseña a orar recordándonos a Cristo, ¿cómo no dirigirnos también a él orando? Por eso, la
Iglesia nos invita a implorar todos los días al Espíritu Santo, especialmente al comenzar y al terminar cualquier acción
importante. (CIC 2670)
Desde el sí dado por la fe en la anunciación y mantenido sin vacilar al pie de la cruz, la maternidad de María se extiende
desde entonces a los hermanos y a las hermanas de su Hijo, “que son peregrinos todavía y que están ante los peligros y
las miserias” (LG 62). Jesús, el único Mediador, es el Camino de nuestra oración, María, su Madre y nuestra Madre, es
pura transparencia de él: María muestra el camino, ella es su signo… (CIC 2674)
María es la orante perfecta, figura de la Iglesia. Cuando le rezamos, nos adherimos con ella al designio del Padre, que
envía a su Hijo para salvar a todos los hombres. Como el discípulo amado, acogemos (cf. Jn 19, 27) a la Madre de Jesús,
hecha madre de todos los vivientes. Podemos orar con ella y a ella. La oración de la Iglesia está sostenida por la oración
de María. La Iglesia se une a María en la esperanza (cf. LG 68-69) (CIC 2679)
“Nadie puede decir: ‘Jesús es Señor’, sino por influjo del Espíritu Santo” (1 Cor 12, 3). La Iglesia nos invita a invocar al
Espíritu Santo como Maestro interior de la oración cristiana. (CIC 2681)
“Ven Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor” (cf. Secuencia de
Pentecostés) (CIC 2671)

Las palabras de María en Caná: “Hagan lo que él les diga”, es el mensaje más importante que la Virgen nos ha
dado, ¿qué te dicen a ti esas palabras?
La Iglesia nos enseña que debemos orar a Dios y también a la Virgen María, ¿en qué se diferencia, si en algo,
nuestra oración a Dios y a la Virgen?
¿Qué significado tiene para ti el lema: “A Jesús por María”?
El Catecismo nos dice que “María es la orante perfecta”, ¿qué implica esto en forma práctica para nuestra
vida?
¿Cuándo deberíamos rezarle al Espíritu Santo? ¿Por qué?

THE WAY OF PRAYER
Biblical Reflection: Rom 5,1-4
There is no other way of Christian prayer than Christ. Whether our prayer is communal or
personal, vocal or interior, it has access to the Father only if we pray “in the name” of Jesus.
The sacred humanity of Jesus is therefore the way by which the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray
to God our Father. (CCC 2664)
… Every time we begin to pray to Jesus it is the Holy Spirit who draws us on the way of prayer by his prevenient grace.
Since he teaches us to pray by recalling Christ, how could we not pray to the Spirit too? That is way the Church invites us
to call upon the Holy Spirit every day, especially at the beginning and the end of every important action. (CCC 2670)
Mary gave her consent in faith at the Annunciation and maintained it without hesitation at the foot of the Cross. Ever
since, her motherhood has extended to the brothers and sisters of her Son “who still journey on earth surrounded by
dangers and difficulties” (LG 62). Jesus, the only mediator, is the way of our prayer; Mary, his mother, and ours, is
wholly transparent to him: she “shows the way”, and is herself “the Sign” of the way… (CCC 2674)
Mary is the perfect Orans (prayer), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of
the Father, who sends his Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus’ mother into our homes (Jn
19:27), for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is
sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope (Cf. LG 68-69). (CCC 2679)
“No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’, except by the Holy Spirit’ (1 Cor 12:3). The Church invites us to invoke the Holy Spirit as
the interior Teacher of Christian prayer. (CCC 2681)

Questions for discussion:





The words of Mary in Cana: “Do whatever he tells you”, is the most important message that the Blessed
Mother has given us. What do those words tell you?
The Church teaches us that we should pray to God and also to the Virgin Mary; what would be the difference,
if any, between our prayer to God and to the Virgin?
What does the phrase “To Christ through Mary” means to you?
The Catechism tells us that “Mary is the perfect (Orans) prayer”. What does this mean to us for our prayer
life?
When shall we pray to the Holy Spirit? Why?
