Today we begin the best week of the year, so great that
we call it Holy Week. The focus is upon the three most important
days of the year, so ancient that we call them by their Latin
name—The Triduum (tri meaning three and duum from the Latin
word dies which means day). It’s what we call Holy Thursday,
Good Friday, and Easter which begins Saturday night and lasts all
day Sunday, the Day of the Resurrection.
So, I invite you to participate in those days. During the
Spring before my ordination, my father invited me to accompany
him for a fishing trip to Toledo Bend Lake in far East Texas.
Unfortunately, that fell during Holy Week from Palm Sunday to
Holy Saturday. Since I knew that it would be my last Spring fishing
trip with my father because I would always be unavailable during
future Holy Weeks, I accepted. Yes, we caught lots of fish, but I
really missed the celebrations of Holy Week. Something was
missing from my life. Don’t miss Holy Week. How could we
possibly celebrate the Resurrection if we didn’t accompany Jesus
at the Last Supper or remember his death on the cross? How
could we possibly enjoy the final touchdown of a football game if
we didn’t witness the excitement of the plays of the game? Come
spend time with Jesus in His final moments on earth.
Most weekends we have 7,500 people attending Mass,
but on Easter weekend, we have 14,000 who come to worship the
Risen Jesus. We do our best to accommodate everybody, but at
some Masses, there’s “no room in the inn!” So, please notice that
on Easter Sunday we will start with a “Sunrise Mass” at 6:30 am in
the Church—the regular 7:00 am Mass in Spanish morphs into the
6:30 Mass—and it will be bilingual.
Then at 8:00, 9:45, and 11:30 we have Mass in the
Church and in the Great Hall of the Parish Center. Once the
Church fills to capacity of 1623, we will close the doors of the
Church and ask newer arrivals to attend Mass in the Great Hall.
This is because of Fire Code restrictions. It is against the law to
overcrowd a building, it endangers people’s lives, and it makes the
Mass an unpleasant experience. So, please don’t feel unwanted
or angry; please understand the situation and cooperate with our
ushers and Knights of Columbus who will be helping us. Another
thing: when the Church is full, we are going to start Mass—when
the plane is full, it takes off since there is no reason to wait for a
clock to catch up. A word to the wise….
Whatever the case, I hope your Holy Week and Easter
are wonderful opportunities to draw closer to the One who
sacrificed his life for us so that we could live beautifully on earth
and majestically in heaven!
Hoy comenzamos la mejor semana del año, tan maravillosa que la llamamos Semana Santa. La atención se centra en los
tres días más importantes del año y son tan antiguos que los llamamos - El Triduo (tri significa tres y duo de la palabra latina dies
que significa día). Es como le llamamos al Jueves Santo, Viernes
Santo y Pascua, la cual comienza el sábado por la noche y dura
todo el día domingo, es decir el día de la resurrección.
Por lo tanto, los invito a participar en esos días. Durante
la primavera antes de mi ordenación mi padre me invitó a acompañarlo durante un viaje de pesca al lago Toledo Bend en el lejano
Este de Texas. Desafortunadamente, esos días eran durante la
Semana Santa desde el Domingo de Ramos al Sábado Santo, pero
como sabía que sería mi último viaje de pesca de primavera con
mi padre, ya que nunca estaría disponible durante futuras Semanas Santas, acepté. Sí pescamos muchos peces, pero realmente
extrañé las celebraciones de la Semana Santa, algo le faltaba a mi
vida. No se pierdan la Semana Santa. ¿Cómo es posible celebrar la
resurrección sin acompañar a Jesús en la última cena o recordar
su muerte en la cruz? ¿Cómo es posible disfrutar del último gol de
un partido de fútbol sin presenciar la emoción de las jugadas del
partido? Vengan a pasar tiempo con Jesús en sus últimos momentos en la tierra.
La mayoría de los fines de semana tenemos 7,500 personas que asisten a misa, pero en el fin de semana Pascua tenemos
14,000 personas que vienen a adorar a Jesús resucitado. Hacemos
nuestro mejor esfuerzo para recibir a todos pero, en algunas Misas "no hay lugar en la posada!" Así que por favor tome en cuenta
que, el domingo de Pascua vamos a iniciar con una "Misa del amanecer" a las 6:30 a.m. en la Iglesia- la Misa regular de 7:00 a.m. en
español se cambia a la Misa de 6:30 a.m. - y será bilingüe.
Después, a las 8:00 a.m., 9:45 a.m., y 11:30 a.m. tenemos
Misas en la Iglesia y en el Gran Salón del Centro Parroquial al mismo tiempo. Una vez que se llena la capacidad de 1,623 personas
en la Iglesia vamos a cerrar las puertas de la Iglesia y pediremos a
las personas que van llegando que asistan a la Misa en el Gran
Salón del Centro Parroquial. Esto es debido a las restricciones del
código contra incendios ya que es contra la ley saturar un edificio
y poner en peligro la vida de las personas, además haríamos que
la Misa sea una experiencia desagradable. Así que por favor, no se
sientan indeseados o enojados, comprendan la situación y cooperen con nuestros ujieres y Caballeros de Colón que nos estarán
ayudando. Otra cosa: cuando la Iglesia esté llena, vamos a comenzar la Misa - cuando el avión está lleno, se despega ya que no hay
razón para esperar - un sabio consejo.
¡De cualquier manera espero que su Semana Santa y
Pascua sean maravillosas oportunidades para acercarse a Aquél
que sacrificó su vida por nosotros para que pudiéramos vivir muy
bien en la tierra y majestuosamente en el cielo!

the service of the lighting of the fire and the Paschal Candle, the long proclamation of the Word, the sacraments of initiation of catechumens and candidates for full communion with the Catholic Church, and the liturgy of the Eucharist. It
is a long service—3 hours—so if you are looking for a quick Easter Mass, don’t come to this one! But if you want to
witness the most beautiful liturgy of the year, come and really celebrate the Resurrection! . This Mass will be bilingual.

EASTER EGG HUNT

hunt. The Easter egg hunt will take place at Warren Park
on Sunday, March 27th, at 3:00 p.m. for children in Third

The Catholic Men’s Fellowship of St. Francis of Assisi, invites you to view the new documentary that follows the
adventurous history of the original painting commissioned
by St. Faustina – titled, “The Original Image of Divine Mercy”. The film has been endorsed by The Pontifical Council
for the Promotion of the New Evangelization and features
appearances by key witnesses. The 2 hour screening can be
seen here in the Great Hall on, Wednesday, March 30th at
7:00 pm, and Saturday, April 2nd at 3:00 pm. Suggested

The “Life in the Spirit Seminar” is a spiritual journey to a fuller
experience of the Holy Spirit and empowerment of the gifts for
personal sanctity, ministry and evangelization.
This event will be held on April 1st from 7pm - 9:30pm and April
2nd from 7:30am-5:00pm. The cost to attend this two-day event
is $10 and includes lunch on Saturday. Due to lack of space at St
Francis, we have rented space at the First United Methodist
Church in Frisco, located at 7659 Preston Rd, 75034.
