ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church –Marriage & Family
Fourth Sunday of Easter
Many of us name Psalm 23 as our favorite. It is sung at funerals,
including at Blessed Mother Teresa's. It adorns many a home in
framed needlepoint and refrigerator magnets. Many of the words
remain in our memory, available for instant recitation when the
time is right. Of course, truth be told, it may be the only real
psalm we know, or at least the only one whose number we know.
There is a reason for the popularity of this psalm. The image
it conveys to us is one of helpless little lambs that are so very
loved by a Good Shepherd. We see ourselves as lambs being led
by someone who cares so much for us. When we are hurt, he
holds us. When we are lost, he finds us.
Some have said that, because most of us have never seen a
real shepherd at work, the image does not have the same power.
But the popularity of the image tells a different story. Add to the
images mentioned above the reality that this Good Shepherd lays
down his life for his sheep, and the image is pretty easy to understand. We hear his voice, and we follow; we follow him into
eternal life.
Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al) May is our traditional month dedicated to Mary, our Blessed Mother. Our Blessed Mother has told us that
the rosary is a needed and powerful form of prayer. This is a brief history of our rosary. The rosary is a form of combined prayer and meditation that has been around for over 1200 years. The origin of the rosary
dates back to the ninth century where Irish monks would recite and
chant the 150 Psalms of the Bible. People living near the monasteries
were drawn towards this devotion and were eager to join in with the
monks' prayers. Unfortunately the psalms were very hard to memorize
and printed copies of the psalms were not readily available. It was suggested to the people outside the monastery that they recite a series of
150 "Our Father" prayers in place of the psalms. This form of devotion
became very popular and people devised methods to keep track of their
prayers. At first, 150 little pebbles were placed inside small leather
pouches to keep count. Then a thin rope having 50 knots, repeated three
times, was used instead. Eventually, the instrument of choice became
the use of string with small pieces of wood. In later years, the Irish
monks traveled throughout Europe and brought this form of devotion
with them. In some areas, both clergy and lay people began to recite the
"Angelic Salutation" (the first part of what we now know as the "Hail
Mary") as part of this devotion. The popularity of this prayer led to the
adoption of 50 Angelic Salutations being said for each piece of wood or
knot on the prayer string. It is believed that in the year 1214, that the
Church received the Rosary in its present form we use today. It was
given to the Church by Saint Dominic who had received it from the
Blessed Virgin as a powerful means of prayer.

Mary App:
The Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception have released the
MARY APP. This FREE app offers a complete resource for information on the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, in an easy to navigate format. The app has three main chapters with these features: doctrine, devotion, and Mary Plus. Mary’s whole task is to lead
people closer to Jesus. The more we get to know her and have a fervent
devotion to her, the better she can lead us to her Son. For this reason, the
Second Vatican Council states, “Everyone should have a genuine devotion to (Mary) and entrust his life to her motherly care.”

CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS
Elementary Sunday L.I.F.E. (Living In Faith Everyday). We need 1st
grade teacher/help for 9:45am and 4:30pm sessions. Contact Fran Kuzma
in the office to help. (Training provided) The next sessions are April
12th and 26th. Parents are always welcome to sit in and/or help with any
session with their child.
The 8th World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia is scheduled for September 22-27th and our Holy Pope Francis will be attending. This prayer is
for the World Meeting of Families Philadelphia 2015:
God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us
your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united in
one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all
families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen Jesus, Mary and Joseph Pray for us!

that we first learn who God is and how to prayerfully seek His will for

The Greater Richmond School of Music Theatre Camp (GRSM) is
offering a three-week musical theatre class for rising second grade through
high school students from June 8-26 from 9am-4pm at St. Benedict School,
with childcare available before and after daily rehearsals. The Big Bad
Musical, A Howling Courtroom Comedy will be performed Fri., June 26
at 7pm on the school’s stage. NO FEAR AUDITIONS will be held Sunday, May 3 from 3-6pm. No experience is necessary and everyone who

Have an amazing experience this summer! Host a student from Spain (ages
13-17) in your home for 4 weeks. Learn about their culture while he or she
learns about living in an American family. They go to classes and sightseeing in the daytime 8:30-4:30 during the workday. The rest of the time they
just want to be a part of your family doing what you do and going where
you go. Families receive stipends to help with expenses and the students
bring spending money for activities. We have carpools and can help work

Building and Facility Update
Mission accomplished! We are pleased to announce that a new camera
system in the church and a new projector system in the Parish hall had
been installed. The new camera system is now capable to pan, zoom,
record special events and project the mass (altar area) up close and more
clearly in the commons flat screen and parish hall big screen. This will
help greatly to accommodate overflow during big liturgical events such
as Easter and Christmas. The new projector system in the Parish hall can
project on the big screen with the use of a laptop that can plug directly
into the wall jack. This has now eliminated wires across the floor that

St. Augustine of Hippo Café !
We will be offering take out sandwiches after the 8:30 and
11:15am. Masses.
Our menu will consist of:
The Monsignor: Bacon, egg and cheese on an English muffin
with coffee($3)
The Ricardo Seidel: Sausage, egg and cheese on an English muffin
with coffee($3)
Bagel with cream cheese and coffee ($1.50).
The café will offer a surprise special each month. The café will only be
open the first Sunday of each month unless a major event is taking
place.
All the proceeds from the St. Augustine of Hippo Café will benefit our
Outreach program.

Actualización del Edificio
¡Misión cumplida! Tenemos el gusto de anunciar que un nuevo sistema de
cámara en la iglesia y un nuevo sistema de proyección en el Salón de la
parroquia ha sido instalado. El nuevo sistema de cámara es ahora capaz de
pan, zoom, grabar eventos especiales y proyectar la Misa (el área del altar)
de cerca y más claramente en el monitor del área común y la pantalla
grande en el salón parroquial. Esto ayudará en grandemente a acomodar el
exceso de feligreses en las grandes celebraciones litúrgicas, como Semana
Santa y Navidad. El nuevo sistema de proyección en la sala de la parroquia
puede proyectar en la pantalla grande con el uso de una computadora
portátil que se puede conectar directamente a la pared. Ahora se ha
eliminado los cables por todo el piso que podría representar un peligro para
la seguridad y ha eliminado el uso de un proyector portátil encima de una
carreta. Este proyecto tuvo un costo de $14,318.
Queremos dar las gracias a todos ustedes por su apoyo constante a la
Iglesia St. Augustine para ayudar que actualizaciones tales como esta,
sean posible.

3 DE MAYO ¡Venga y únase a nosotros para compañerismo en
la gran apertura del Café St. Agustíne of Hippo! Vamos a ofrecer
sandwich de desayuno después de las Misas de 8:30 y 11:15am.

Necesitamos maestros de tercer grado para las sesiones de las 2:45pm y
las 4:30pm lo mas pronto possible. Llame a Fran Kuzma en la oficina si
quiere ayudar (le daremos entrenamiento). Recuerde, los padres siempre son bienvenidos para estar en la sesión con su hijo(a), y/o ayudar en
la sesión.
¿Desea bautizar a su bebé? Las inscripciones para
bautismos son todos los miércoles de 3:00 - 7:00 pm y los
juéves de 2 - 4pm. Los padres deben ser miembros inscritos en la parroquia. Por favor traiga con usted una copia del

REFLEXIONES
4º Domingo de Pascua
Igual que todos los años, el Cuarto Domingo de Pascua está dedicado a celebrar a Cristo, el Buen Pastor. Jesús se presenta como
guía y compañero de viaje de la comunidad de creyentes: "Yo
soy el buen pastor, porque conozco a mis ovejas y ellas me conocen a mí, así como el Padre me conoce a mí y yo conozco al Padre". El texto nos presenta al Resucitado con la figura de Buen
Pastor: nos conoce y le pertenecemos. Dio la vida por nosotros y
va delante de la comunidad. Por lo tanto, vale la pena dejar todo
a un lado, tal como los primeros discípulos, por seguirlo.
Ninguna otra persona puede salvarnos: solo él tiene palabras de
vida eterna.
Sin embargo, la sociedad actual está rodeada de falsos pastores y
pastoras. Y las ovejas son robadas, maltratadas y engañadas.
Fácilmente acudimos a charlatanes que nos adivinan la suerte y
dicen predecir nuestro futuro. No nos dejemos engañar: solo
Jesucristo es el dueño de nuestra vida. Solo él murió en la cruz
por salvarnos. Solo él nos conduce hacia la vida verdadera.
¿Creemos esto? ¿Es Jesús el pastor de nuestra vida? Hoy también
es el día propicio para examinarnos dentro del papel de pastores
de las ovejas que se nos han encomendado. Esto va para los padres de familia, a quienes Dios les pone al cuidado de pastorear a
sus hijos e hijas. ¿Cuáles deben ser las características de un buen
pastor? El buen pastor da la vida por sus ovejas. El buen pastor
conoce a sus ovejas. El buen pastor se preocupa aun por las
ovejas que no son de su rebano. En fin, esto significa el preguntarnos: ¿Cuánto tiempo de calidad le damos a nuestros hijos e
hijas, aparte de mantenerlos? ¿Conocemos sus problemas?
¿Convivimos con ellos? ¿Nos interesamos por sus compañías?
Ojalá que sepamos escuchar la voz del Señor para saber conducir
