JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY 2016
At a Lenten penance service in St. Peter’s Basilica on March 13, Pope
Francis announced an extraordinary jubilee, a Holy Year of Mercy, to
highlight the Catholic Church’s “mission to be a witness of mercy.” The
special year will take place on the feast of the Immaculate Conception of
the Blessed Virgin Mary December 8th, 2015 until November 20th, 2016.
“We constantly need to contemplate the mystery of mercy. It is a wellspring
of joy, serenity, and peace. Our salvation depends on it. (Pope Francis on
the upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy).

spiritual and bodily necessities.” - Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2447

Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead
SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY
Admonish the sinner
Instruct the ignorant
Counsel the doubtful
Comfort the sorrowful
Bear wrongs patiently
Forgive all injuries
Pray for the living and the dead
The works of mercy give shape to the Church’s desire to bring mercy to the world as a response
to the mercy she has so freely and generously received from Christ. Since the whole human
person is the subject of God’s loving mercy, both body and soul, the works of mercy are oriented
towards both the physical and spiritual necessities of the human person.
In living the works of mercy, the Church shares in God’s action in the world, namely, the
restoration, protection and affirmation of the full dignity of the person made in the image of God.
For this reason the works of mercy are patterned after the life of Jesus Christ as he ministered to
each human being, body and soul, in order to restore him to fullness of life.
AÑO DEL JUBILEO DE LA MISERICORDIA 2016
En un servicio de penitencia cuaresmal en la Basílica de San Pedro el 13 de
marzo, el Papa Francisco anunció un jubileo extraordinario, un Año Santo
de la Misericordia, para destacar la Iglesia Católica “misión de ser testigo
de la misericordia.” El año especial se llevará a cabo en la fiesta de la
Inmaculada Concepción de la Santísima Virgen María el octavo día de
diciembre del 2015 hasta el 20 de noviembre 2016.
“Constantemente tenemos que contemplar el misterio de la misericordia.
Es un manantial de alegría, serenidad y paz. Nuestra salvación depende de
ello. (Francisco en el próximo Año Jubilar de la Misericordia).

Las obras de misericordia dan forma a la voluntad de la Iglesia de llevar la misericordia al
mundo como una respuesta a la misericordia que tan libre y generosamente ha recibido de Cristo.
Desde toda la persona humana es el sujeto de la misericordia amorosa de Dios, el cuerpo y el
alma, las obras de misericordia están orientadas a ambos las necesidades físicas y espirituales de
la persona humana.
Al vivir las obras de misericordia, la Iglesia comparte con Dios las acciones en el mundo, a
saber, la restauración, la protección y la afirmación de la plena dignidad de la persona creada a la
imagen de Dios. Por esta razón, las obras de misericordia siguen el modelo de la vida de
Jesucristo como él ministró a cada ser humano, cuerpo y alma, con el fin de devolverle a la
plenitud de la vida.
