RETIREMENT FUND FOR ARCHDIOCESAN PRIESTS
SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT
Last week we heard that, following the
Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the
Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we
hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit
comes upon them. Jesus’ post-Resurrection promise,
recounted in today’s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the
Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ followers. Saint Paul tells
us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy
Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread the Good News.
Today is one of the Church’s greatest festivals. Let us
carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us
throughout the coming week: “Lord, send out your Spirit,
and renew the face of the earth!” (Psalm 104:30).

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION / YOUTH MINISTRY
The Office of Religious Education will be
accepting registrations for catechism and
sacramental preparation classes from May 19
to June 30. For First Communion preparation,
you need the Baptismal certificate and a
passport size picture, For Confirmation preparation, you
need the Baptismal, and First Communion certificates,
and a passport size picture. We will not accept
registration without these requirements.
MOTHERS’ DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
The novena of Masses for mothers, living and
deceased begins today. The cards and
envelopes for the names are on the table
near the altar. The envelopes with the names can be
placed in the regular collection or left at the church office.

Next weekend, May 17-18, all parishioners
throughout our Archdiocese will be asked to give generously to
support the Retirement fund for Archdiocesan Priests via a
special collection. Currently, the fund provides for 149 priests
who are retired. Over the next ten years, the number of priests
who will reach retirement age will number 358. All of these
individuals have committed their lives to serve the spiritual
needs of our parish communities. We, in turn, owe it to them to
assure that they do not have to worry about their retirement
years.
Beginning in 2000, and in each year since, the Archdiocese of
Los Angeles has asked for financial support for the Retirement
fund for Archdiocesan Priests. The faithful of the Archdiocesan
have responded generously and tremendously in support of this
important special collection. Since 2000, a total of $9,957,090
has been added to the Priests Pension Plan through this annual
collection. thank you to those who have been so generous.
In today’s bulletin, the 4-page tabloid insert describes this need
further and offers several ways that you can provide significant
financial support. Please review the insert and reflect upon how
the priests in your life have guided you, called forth your gifts
and provided spiritual guidance in your life. Then, prayerfully
determine the amount that you will give next week in support of
them, not out of a sense of obligation but, out of true gratitude
for their dedication and service for so many years to the people
of God in our Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers. May God
bless you, guide, strengthen you and reward you
for all your love, care and patience. Yours is a very
special vocation. May your children return your love.
DIVINE MERCY
The Divine Mass Mercy Mass and Novena will be this Tuesday at

to Father Pat Hill on the celebration of his
fortieth anniversary of priesthood. The jubilee

Fr. Hill was in residence here from 1994—2002.

ENVÍA TU ESPÍRITU
La semana pasada oímos que después de la Ascensión,
los discípulos, María y otros seguidores del Señor se retiraron al
piso alto donde perseveraron unánimes en la oración. Esta
semana escuchamos que, mientras estaban en oración allí, el
Espíritu Santo vino sobre ellos. La promesa de Jesús, luego de su
Resurrección que el Evangelio de hoy relata, se cumple: el poder
del Espíritu Santo viene sobre los seguidores de Jesús. San Pablo
nos dice que a todos nosotros, de alguna manera, se nos dan los
dones del Espíritu Santo, dones que se pueden usar para
anunciar la Buena Nueva. Hoy es una de las más grandes fiestas
de la Iglesia. Llevemos con nosotros el estribillo del salmo
responsorial: “¡Envía tu Espíritu, Señor, y repuebla la faz de la

tierra!” (Salmo 104:30).
FONDO DE JUBILACION PARA LOS SACERDOTES
ARQUIDIOCESANOS
El próximo fin de semana, 17-18 de Mayo, se les pedirá a
todos los feligreses que contribuyan generosamente al fondo de
Jubilación para los Sacerdotes Arquidiocesanos por medio de una
colecta especial. Actualmente, el fondo proporciona ayuda a 149
sacerdotes jubilados. En los próximos 10 años, el número de
sacerdotes que estarán en edad de retirarse llegará a los 358.
Todos ellos han dedicado sus vidas a servir, atendiendo las
necesidades espirituales de nuestras comunidades parroquales.
Nosotros a cambio, debemos asegurarnos que ellos no tengan
que preocuparse por sus años de retiro.
A partir del año 2000, la Arquidiócesis de Los angeles ha
estado solicitando anualmente apoyo económico para el fondo de
Jubilación para los Sacerdotes Arquidiocesanos. Los fieles de la
Arquidiócesis han respondido generosaamente en apoyo a esta
solicitud. Desde el año 2000, un total de $9,957,090 han sido
agregados al Plan de Pensiones de los Sacerdotes a través de
esta recaudación anual. Gracias a todos aquellos que han sido
tan generosos.
En el boletín de hoy encontrará un folleto el cual describe esta
necesidad de manera más amplia y ofrece diferentes opciones en
las que usted puede brindar apoyo económico. Por favor revise la
información, reflexione acerca de como los sacerdotes le han
orientado, han evocado sus dones y le han dado guía spiritual en
su vida. Después de poner todo esto en oración, determine la
cantidad con la que contribuirá la próxima semana, no como una
obligación sino como un acto de sincera gratitud por su
dedicación y servicio de tantos años al pueblo de Dios en nuestra
Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles.

Las registraciones para clases de catesismo y
preparación de los Sacramentos darán
principio del 19 de Mayo al 30 de Junio. Para
la preparación de Primera Comunión necesitan la Fe de
Bautismo y una foto tamaño pasaporte. Para la preparación de
la Confirmación necesitan la Fe de Bautismo, Certificado de
Primera Comunión y una foto tamaño pasaporte.
Favor de notar: Todos los avisos para el boletín
deberán ser entregados por escrito en la oficina de
la iglesia el viernes de la semana previa (9 días
