Mission Statement
We, a Catholic community of diverse multicultural backgrounds,
unite as a family under one Baptism in Christ. We come together to
pray, evangelize, learn and serve one another, the community and
humankind. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we pursue this mission by
participation in the liturgical, educational, outreach and social ministries of the Church.

All students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in PSR (Parish School of Religion), Initiate (6th-12th Sacrament
Preparation), EDGE, and Life Teen will be taught Touching Safety, a sexual abuse prevention program, on their
regular scheduled classroom night, either November 15th or November 18th, 2015. (All students with a Red
Schedule will be taught Touching Safety in the spring.) The creators of the Protecting GodÊs Children developed
Touching Safety. This program is provided to us by the Diocese of Little Rock and is part of our ongoing effort to
help create and maintain a safe environment for children and to protect all children from sexual abuse.
As a parent, you have the right to choose whether your student participates. We encourage you to preview the
lesson plan online at www.svdprogers.com or at the receptionist desk so youÊll be aware of the nature of the
Touching Safety program. If you have questions about the program or the lesson, please contact the PSR, Initiate,
and EDGE/Life Teen Coordinators at 636-4020.
If you determine that you DO NOT want your child to participate, please complete the „opt-out‰ form available at
the kiosk area and return it to the Church Office no later than Wednesday, November 11th, 2015. If you „opt out,‰
your child will still need to attend class that evening, but will just be in an alternative presentation during the
Touching Safety program and we will then provide a copy of the material to you to teach at home.

Seguridad en el Contacto Físico. Este programa es proporcionado por la diócesis de Little Rock y es parte de

Growing in Faith by Bob Maloney
Several years ago my spiritual life consisted of going to Mass on Sundays, but not
much more. As a cradle Catholic that attended Catholic schools and grew up in a
Catholic family I thought I was very knowledgeable concerning my religion. I thought
I was fulfilling my religious obligations, however somehow it all just didnÊt make
sense and it really wasnÊt having much influence on my life. Then a friend invited me
to attend a Cursillo retreat. It took me a couple of years, but finally I decided to
accept the invitation. It was a humbling weekend. I discovered I knew very little about my faith, the Bible or my
Church. The team that led the retreat introduced me to a new way of life. They had a strong faith in God, and
understood what he expected of them. I envied their knowledge and the obvious joy and comfort they felt in their
personal relationships with God. I didnÊt have a personal relationship with God and they inspired me to seek one.
So I committed to following the outline they recommended. After some study
and prayer the following year I joined the team that puts on the MenÊs Cursillo
Retreat. This process gradually but significantly allowed me to grow in my faith
and knowledge of God and what he wanted me to do. I continue to be involved
in Cursillo as it helps me to continue to grow in faith. The next Cursillo weekend
is this next weekend on Thursday the 5th through Sunday the 6th. It may be a
little „last minute‰ and it is four days away from home. But please prayerfully
consider taking this leap of faith. Answer ChristÊs call as Samuel did, „...Speak, for
your servant is listening.‰ (1Sam 3:10). If I can answer any questions or give you that

The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week, November 1-7,
2015. This observance, sponsored by the U.S. bishops' Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations, is a
special time for parishes in the U.S. to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated
life.
Pope Francis, in his message of April 26, 2015 on the 52nd Day of World Prayer for Vocations states;
"Responding to God's call means allowing Him to help us leave ourselves and our false security behind, and to
strike out on the path which leads to Jesus Christ, the origin and destiny of our life and our happiness." The Holy
Father stresses, "The Christian vocation, rooted in the contemplation of the Father's heart, thus inspires us to
solidarity in bringing liberation to our brothers and sisters, especially the poorest."
La Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos celebrara la semana Nacional de Concientización de Vocaciones en
Noviembre del 1 al 7. Esta observancia, patrocinada por los obispos de Estados Unidos Comité del Clero, Vidas

Permanent Diaconate Formation Classes
November will be three years since our last Permanent Diaconate Ordinations
and the Diocese of Little Rock is in the process of planning our next formation
class. Anyone interested in learning more about our plans and what you might
need to do to be part of the next class is invited, along with your wife, to an
informational meeting to be held at St. Raphael Parish in Springdale on November
17th. The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. Any questions prior to the meeting can

What does it mean to learn from Jesus how to pray?
Learning from Jesus how to pray means entering into his boundless trust, joining in his prayer, and being led by
him, step by step, to the Father. The disciples, who lived in community with Jesus, learned to pray by listening to
and imitating Jesus, whose whole life was prayer. Like him, they had to be watchful and strive for purity of heart, to
give up everything for the coming of God's kingdom, to forgive their enemies, to trust boldly in God, and to love
him above all things. By this example of devotion, Jesus invited his disciples to say to God Almighty, "Abba, dear
Father". If we pray in the Spirit of Jesus, especially the Lord's Prayer, we walk in Jesus' shoes and can be sure that
we will arrive unfailingly in the heart of the Father.
Why can we be confident that our prayer is heard by God?
Many people called on Jesus during his earthly life for healing, and their prayers were answered. Jesus, who rose
from the dead, listens to our petitions and brings them to the Father. Even today we know the name of the
synagogue official: Jairus was the name of the man who begged Jesus for help, and his prayer was answered. His
little daughter was deathly ill. No one could help her. Jesus not only healed his little girl, he even raised her from
the dead (Mk 5:21-43). Jesus worked a whole series of well-attested cures. He performed signs and miracles. The
lame, the lepers, and the blind did not ask Jesus in vain. There are testimonies also of prayers answered by all the
saints of the Church. Many Christians can tell stories of how they called to God and God heard their prayer. God,
however, is not an automat. We must leave it up to him how he will answer our petitions. CCC section (2606-2616)
œQué significa aprender de Jesús como rezar?
Aprender de Jesús como rezar significa adentrarse en su ilimitada confianza, uniéndonos en su oración, y
dejándonos guiar por El, paso a paso hacia el Padre. Los discípulos, que Vivian en comunidad con Jesús,
aprendieron a rezar escuchándolo e imitándolo, a quien hizo de toda su vida una oración. Como El, debían estar
atentos y esforzarse por tener un corazón puro, dejarlo todo para la venida del Reino de Dios, perdonar a sus
enemigos,
confiar plenamente en Dios y amarlo por sobre todas las cosas. Por medio de este ejemplo de
devoción, Jesús invito a sus discípulos a decirle a Dios Todopoderoso „Abba, Padre‰. Si rezamos en el Espíritu de
Jesús, en especial el Padre Nuestro, caminamos en los zapatos de Jesús y estamos seguros de llegar sin fallar al
corazón del Padre.
œCómo podemos estar seguros que Dios escucha nuestra oración?
Mucha gente acudió a Jesús durante su vida terrenal para ser sanados, y sus oraciones fueron atendidas. Jesús, que
resucito entre los muertos, escucha nuestras oraciones y las eleva al Padre. Hoy día sabemos lo que paso en la
sinagoga: Jairo era el nombre de la persona que suplico a Jesús pidiendo ayuda y su pedido fue atendido. Su
pequeña hija estaba muy enferma. Nadie podía ayudarla. Jesús no solo sana a esta niña sino que la resucita. (Marcos
5:21-43) Jesús hizo muchas curaciones. Realizó muchos signos y milagros. El cojo, el leproso, el ciego no acudieron a
Jesús en vano. También hay testimonios de santos de la Iglesia. Muchos cristianos pueden contar sus historias
acerca de cómo llamaron a Dios y Dios escuchó sus súplicas. Dios, no obstante, no es automático. Debemos dejarle

DID YOU KNOW...twice a year (November & May), the Finance and
Administration Commission distributes the proceeds from the parish
festival through a grant?
Any parish sponsored group may submit an application for
consideration of the available funds. This November, we will have
approximately $9,000 in grant money to award with approximately
another $9,000 to be awarded in May 2016.

Deadline is November 1st.

When You participate, your gift will be transferred conveniently by
your bank from your checking or savings account directly to St. Vincent de Paul Church.
Your gift will go further than ever before, because:
Our income will be more predictable, allowing us to make solid
commitments to new projects and current obligations.
Our administrative costs will be reduced.
You may make your contributions even when you are on vacation or
are unable to attend the worship service.
As a participant of the program, you are still free to make additional
gifts/special collections by check or cash as the Lord provides. Your
bank statement will show the deduction and you only need to make
the entry in your check register. A statement of your contributions
will still be furnished to you at the end of the year for tax purposes.

Use the enrollment form below to indicate the amount and frequency at which you wish to contribute from your checking or savings
account.
Print your name and all information on the From the Heart form,
Sign and date the enrollment form,
Attach a voided check or a deposit slip for your account. Please
make sure the correct route number is on the deposit slip.
Return the form to the parish office or place it in the offering basket.
It's that simple!
The church is not able to view your financial records. All we receive
is confirmation that the monies have been transferred, you have a
choice of having your contribution withdrawn on a weekly, biweekly, and monthly basis. Deductions will occur on Monday for
weekly, every 2nd and 4th Friday for bi- weekly, and on the 5th,
15th or 25th of each month for Monthly. For more information
please contact the parish bookkeeper at extension 34.
