Athletes race against each other. They swim first, cycle second and run last. Triathlon became an Olympic Sport in 2000 at the Sydney Summer Olympics in Australia. In the Olympics athletes swim for 1.5 km, cycle for 40 km and then run for 10 km. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China the women’s gold medal in triathlon was won by an Australian, Emma Snowsill, who completed the race in just under two hours. Jan Frodeno from Germany won the men’s gold medal; he finished the race in one hour and 48 minutes. A popular triathlon event is the Sprint Triathlon. It is a shorter race. It is half the distance of the triathlon of the Olympics. In the Sprint Triathlon athletes swim for 750 metres, cycle for 20 km and run for 5 km. If you think that this is too short for you, you can try the Ironman Triathlon. In the Ironman competition athletes swim for 3.86 km, cycle for 180 km and then run for 42.2 km! SIMPLE PRESENT El 'Present Simple' (o Presente Simple), es uno de los tiempos más comunes en inglés. Este tiempo se suele utilizar para hablar de hechos que tienen lugar con cierta frecuencia. Los siguientes ejemplos serán utilizados en la explicación. Recuerda que siempre veremos la tercera persona puesto que en presente cambia. Ellas trabajan en una oficina. Él trabaja en una oficina. ¿PARA QUÉ SIRVE? Este tiempo verbal se utiliza para expresar hechos o verdades generales. También usamos el presente simple para hablar de rutinas o hábitos. En este caso suelen ir acompañados de los adverbios de frecuencia. ¿CÓMO SE FORMA? Se forma con la forma base del verbo. Cuando hablamos de la forma base hacemos referencia al infinitivo sin la preposición 'to', es decir, del verbo 'to eat' la forma base sería ‘eat’. AFIRMATIVA: Para formar la afirmativa ponemos la forma base. Ellas trabajan en una oficina. They work in an office. Debemos tener en cuenta que la 3ª persona del singular (he, she, it) termina en 's', es decir, debemos añadirle una 's' a la forma base. Él trabaja en una oficina. He works in an office. NEGATIVA: Para formar la negativa necesitamos del auxiliar 'do'. Podemos encontrar tanto la forma completa 'do not' como la forma contraída 'don't' Ellas no trabajan en una oficina. They don’t work in an office. Para formar la negativa en tercera persona, al tener que añadir la 's' lo que utilizamos es el auxiliar 'does not' o su forma contraída 'doesn't' Él no trabaja en una oficina. Do they work in an office? Hacemos lo mismo en tercera persona, pero en este caso invertimos el auxiliar 'does'. ¿Trabaja él en una oficina? Does he work in an office? * Recuerda aquí también que al añadir el auxiliary 'does', ya hemos incluido la marca de tercera persona, por lo que el verbo principal se mantiene sin cambios (I.e. works) RESPUESTAS CORTAS: Para dar respuestas cortas debemos utilizar el auxiliar correspondiente. Recuerda que las respuestas cortas son muy comunes porque cuando hablamos evitamos repetir lo que ya se ha dicho. Do they work in an office? Yes, they do / No, they don’t Does he work in an office? Yes, he does / No, he doesn’t * Debes tener en cuenta que utilizamos la forma completa en las respuestas cortas afirmativas, mientras que utilizamos la forma contraída en las respuestas cortas negativas. ¿QUÉ DEBO RECORDAR? Lo importante que debemos tener en cuenta es lo siguiente: · La forma de presente coincide con la forma base del verbo, salvo en tercera persona (he, she, it) en la que se le añade una 's'. · Para formar la negativa e interrogativa necesitamos de los auxiliares. · El presente simple suele ir combinado con los adverbios de frecuencia. Además, debemos tener en cuenta que en la tercera persona, al añadir la 's' debemos seguir ciertas reglas de ortografía. 1 La mayoría de los verbos se mantienen igual. I.e. work - works 2 Los verbos que terminan en 's' o algún sonido similar (sh, x, ch) debemos añadir 'es'. Simple Past 1. He went home. 4.3. Negative sentences in the Simple Past Do not negate a main verb in English. Always use the auxiliary did (Simple Past of to do) and the infinitive of the verb for negations. How to use special verbs in the Simple Past Many frequently used verbs are irregular. You find these words in the appendix of a dictionary or in your English book.
