An update on redevelopment plans from the Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA)
***
The next Manning revitalization meeting will be on
Monday, October 26 at 7 pm in the community room.
NOTE: THIS MONTH THE MEETING WILL BE AT 7 PM, NOT 6 PM
Construction Preparation
Work Will Begin in November
Shawmut Design and Construction will be in and
around the building doing construction preparation
work (“enabling work”) beginning in November. From
November until February they will be completing
various tasks to set up the building for full construction
activities, including:
• Closing down part of the parking lane on Franklin
Street and adding fencing and concrete barriers
• Setting up the platform for the construction crane
in part of the plaza and a construction hoist next to
the current entrance of the building
• Moving the current laundry room to apartment 9C
for the first phase of construction
• Moving the current management office to
apartment 3J for the first phase of construction
• Converting a vacant unit into the temporary tenant
council office (exact location to be determined)
• Installing a new gas line from Green Street into the
building
• Removing trees to accommodate the fencing and
crane platform: 3 in the plaza, 1 on the smoking
patio, and 1 small street tree on Franklin St
This work will disrupt the current circulation
around the building. Please remember:
• The construction team will always have a safe and
fully accessible pathway to the front entrance from
both Franklin Street and Green Street
• The main entrance will move slightly but signs
will be clear, the buzzer system will still work, the
security booth will still be able to serve its purpose,
and all walkways and entrances will be fully
accessible
• We will be moving the outdoor smoking area to
the patio area along Green Street
• There will be clear signs to find any relocated
services, including the temporary laundry room
and temporary management office.
• The contractors working on-site will not use the
resident elevators.
The attached “Site Logistics Plan” from the
contractors explains the construction plans
for the site in more detail.
Relocation Reminder
No one has to move out of Manning
Apartments.
Everyone will have to move at least once.
Everyone will be notified of their moving
date at least 90 days in advance, and CHA
staff will meet with every resident prior to
moving.
There are apartments currently available at
other CHA elderly buildings that are great
options for residents interested in moving
off site.

El trabajo de preparación para la
construcción comenzará en noviembre
A partir de noviembre, Shawmut Design and Construction
estará realizando el trabajo de preparación para la
construcción adentro y alrededor del edificio ("trabajo
para preparar las obras"). Desde noviembre hasta febrero
finalizarán varias tareas para preparar el edificio para
realizar todas las actividades de construcción, que incluyen:
• Cerrar parte del carril de estacionamiento sobre
Franklin Street y colocar cercas y barreras de hormigón
• Montar la plataforma de la grúa de construcción en
parte de la plaza y un montacargas de construcción
cerca de la entrada actual del edificio
• Trasladar la lavandería actual al apartamento 9C para la
primera fase de construcción
• Trasladar la oficina de administración actual al
apartamento 3J para la primera fase de construcción
• Convertir una unidad vacía en una oficina temporal
para el consejo de inquilinos (ubicación exacta a
determinar)
• Instalar una nueva cañería de gas desde Green Street
hasta el edificio
• Quitar árboles para acomodar las cercas y la plataforma
de la grúa: 3 en la plaza, 1 en el patio para fumar y 1
árbol pequeño en Franklin St
Este trabajo afectará la circulación actual del edificio.
Recuerde:
• La cuadrilla de construcción siempre tendrá una vía de
acceso segura y totalmente accesible en la entrada del
frente tanto en Franklin Street como en Green Street
• La entrada principal se trasladará levemente pero los
avisos serán claros, el sistema de apertura seguirá
funcionando, la caseta de seguridad podrá seguir
cumpliendo su propósito y se podrá circular por todos
los pasillos y entradas.
• Trasladaremos el área externa para fumar a la zona del
patio en Green Street
• Habrá avisos claros para encontrar cualquier servicio
que haya sido reubicado, incluyendo la lavandería y la
oficina de administración transitorias.
• Los contratistas que trabajen en el lugar no utilizarán
los elevadores de los residentes.

contratistas adjunto explica con más detalle
los planes de construcción para el lugar.
Recordatorio de reubicación
Nadie se tiene que mudar fuera de los
Manning Apartments.
Todos se tendrán que mudar al menos una
vez.
A todos les notificarán la fecha de su
mudanza al menos con 90 días de
anticipación y el personal de la CHA se
reunirá con cada residente antes de la
mudanza.
En la actualidad hay apartamentos
disponibles en otros edificios más antiguos
de la CHA que son excelentes opciones para
los residentes que estén interesados en
mudarse fuera del emplazamiento.
