Seventh Sunday of Easter
Give Thanks at All Times!
I would like to thank all of you for one of the most joyful, spirit-filled,
unforgettable days in my life. As well as in the life of my family
members that traveled hundreds of miles to celebrate my “Silver Jubilee”
– 25th anniversary for my ordination to the Priesthood by Blessed Pope
John Paul II. I would like to thank all of you individually, but given that
this is impossible I asked my relatives to send a short note of gratitude
to all of you. So here they are:
From my nephew Aaron (9 years old): “Thank you for being so nice. I
appreciate it. I wish I could always go to church with you all. I hope
every time you have church is wonderful. That church is beautiful.”

MONTH OF JUNE
As we begin to feel the warmth of summer, we can reflect that
we celebrate the feasts of Corpus Christ, the Sacred Heart of
Jesus & the Immaculate heart of Mary. God is Love & the Sacred
Heart of Jesus - present on earth in the Blessed Sacrament - is the
human manifestation of God's Love for men. Appropriately June
is considered the month for weddings where human hearts join
& cooperate with the Creator in bringing forth new life. The family they create is a human reflection of the Blessed Trinity.
Catechesis for 33-6 Year Olds
In Orange County, some members of our parish have started a catechism program for 3-6 year olds, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
This catechesis is an approach to the religious formation of young
children grounded in Scripture & the Liturgy & is based on Montessori methodology. They are currently registering children for the new

Nine First Fridays Devotion to the Sacred Heart
From the writings of St. Margaret Mary:
"On Friday during Holy Communion, He said these words to His
unworthy slave, if I mistake not: I promise you in the excessive mercy
of my Heart that its all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on nine first Fridays of consecutive months
the grace of final repentance; they will not die under my displeasure
or without receiving their sacraments, my divine Heart making itself
their assured refuge at the last moment."
With regard to this promise it may be remarked: (1) that our Lord
required Communion to be received on a particular day chosen by
Him; (2) that the nine Fridays must be consecutive; (3) that they must
be made in honor of His Sacred Heart, which means that those who
make the nine Fridays must practice the devotion & must have a great
love for our Lord; (4) that our Lord does not say that those who make
the nine Fridays will be dispensed from any of their obligations or
from exercising the vigilance necessary to lead a good life & overcome
temptation; rather He implicitly promises abundant graces to those
who make the nine Fridays to help them to carry out these obligations
& persevere to the end; (5) that perseverance in receiving Holy Communion for nine consecutive First Fridays helps the faithful to acquire
the habit of frequent Communion, which our Lord eagerly desires; &
(6) that the practice of the nine Fridays is very pleasing to our Lord
since He promises such great reward, & that all Catholics should endeavor to make the nine Fridays.

Me gustaría agradecerles por uno de los días más felices, e inolvidables
de mi vida. Así como en la vida de los miembros de mi familia que
viajaron cientos de millas para celebrar mi “Jubileo de Plata”–el
aniversario 25 de mi ordenación al Sacerdocio por el Beato Papa Juan
Pablo II. Me gustaría agradecerles individualmente, pero como eso es
imposible le pedí a mis parientes que mandaran una pequeña nota de
agradecimiento para todos ustedes. Aquí están:

The Popes on Devotion to the Sacred Heart
The feast of the Sacred Heart was approved for
specified dioceses by Clement XIII in 1765, and
extended to the whole Church by Pius IX in
1856. In 1889 Pope Leo XIII elevated it to the
rank of first class, and through an encyclical
letter in 1899 dedicated the whole Catholic
world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart was also an essential component
of Pope John Paul II's hopes for the "new evangelization"
called for by the Church.
"For evangelization today," he said, "the Heart of Christ must
be recognized as the heart of the Church: It is He who calls us
to conversion, to reconciliation. It is He who leads pure hearts
and those hungering for justice along the way of the Beatitudes. It is He who achieves the warm communion of the
members of the one Body. It is He who enables us to adhere to
the Good News and to accept the promise of eternal life. It is
He who sends us out on mission. The heart-to-heart with Jesus broadens the human heart on a global scale."
Here are some of the relevant documents: Leo XIII in his Encyclical Letter Annum sacrum(1889)on the consecration of
mankind to the Sacred Heart; Pius XI in Caritate Christi
Compulsi(On The Sacred Heart)and Miserentissimus Redemptor(On Reparation To The Sacred Heart); Pius XII in his
Encyclical Letter Haurietis aquas; Paul VI in his Apostolic Letter Investigabiles divitias Christi (1965) and John Paul II in Message on the centenary of the consecration of mankind to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus(1999), in L'Osservatore Romano, 12 June 1999.
Scriptural Basis for the Devotion
Jesus, who is one with the Father (cf. John 10,
30), invites his disciples to live in close communion with him, to model their lives on him and on
his teaching. He, in turn, reveals himself as "meek
and humble of heart" (Mt 11, 29). It can be said
that, in a certain sense, devotion to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus is a cultic form of the prophetic and
evangelic gaze of all Christians on him who was
pierced (cf. John 19, 37; Zac 12, 10), the gaze of
all Christians on the side of Christ, transfixed by a
lance, and from which flowed blood and water
(cf. John 19, 34), symbols of the "wondrous sacrament of the Church" (St. Augustine).
The Gospel of St. John recounts the showing of the Lord's hands and
his side to the disciples (cf. John 20,20), and of his invitation to
Thomas to put his hand into his side (cf. John 20, 27). This event has
also had a notable influence on the origin and development of the
Church's devotion to the Sacred Heart.
These and other texts present Christ as the paschal Lamb, victorious
and slain (cf. Apoc 5,6). They were objects of much reflection by the
Fathers who unveiled their doctrinal richness. They invited the faithful
to penetrate the mysteries of Christ by contemplating the wound
opened in his side. Augustine writes: "Access is possible: Christ is the
door. It was opened for you when his side was opened by the lance.
Remember what flowed out from his side: thus, choose where you
want to enter Christ. From the side of Christ as he hung dying upon
the Cross there flowed out blood and water, when it was pierced by a
lance. Your purification is in that water, your redemption is in that
blood"

Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary
In the apparitions to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Jesus gives these
twelve promises for those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart.
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will console them in all their troubles.
4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and
especially at the hour of their death.
5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of
mercy.
7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
9. I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened
hearts.
11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who
shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive
months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under
my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My
heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.
Did You Know?
Ensuring Your Child’s School Is Safe
Every teacher, coach, and volunteer who works with children in the Los
Angeles Archdiocese’s parishes and schools must have a background
check before he or she is permitted to work in any school- or parishrelated job or activity that involves contact with children. But many of
our children attend non-Catholic private or public schools. What steps
do these schools take? Talk with school administrators and find out what
steps they take to protect children from harm. Suggest that they review
other abuse prevention programs to ensure that their policies and practices are up to date. And demand that all employees and volunteers who
work in the school be properly screened, including background checks,

finalidad de que los católicos lo veneremos, lo honremos y lo imitemos especialmente en estos
30 días. Esto significa que debemos vivir este mes demostrándole a Jesús con nuestras obras
que lo amamos, que correspondemos al gran amor que Él nos tiene y que nos ha demostrado
entregándose a la muerte por nosotros, quedándose en la Eucaristía y enseñándonos el camino
a la vida eterna. Todos los días podemos acercarnos a Jesús o alejarnos de Él. De nosotros depende, ya que Él siempre nos está esperando y amando. Debemos vivir recordándolo y pensar
cada vez que actuamos: ¿Qué haría Jesús en esta situación, qué le dictaría su Corazón? Y eso es
lo que debemos hacer (ante un problema en la familia, en el trabajo, en nuestra comunidad, con
nuestras amistades, etc.). Debemos, por tanto, piensan si las obras o acciones que vamos a hacer nos alejan o acercan a
Dios. Tener en casa o en el trabajo una imagen del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, nos ayuda a recordar su gran amor y a imitarlo en este mes de junio y durante todo el año.
Origen de la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús
Santa Margarita María de Alacoque era una religiosa de la Orden de la Visitación. Tenía un gran amor por Jesús. Y Jesús
tuvo un amor especial por ella. Se le apareció en varias ocasiones para decirle lo mucho que la amaba a ella y a todos los
hombres y lo mucho que le dolía a su Corazón que los hombres se alejaran de Él por el pecado. Durante estas visitas a su
alma, Jesús le pidió que nos enseñara a quererlo más, a tenerle devoción, a rezar y, sobre todo, a tener un buen comportamiento para que su Corazón no sufra más con nuestros pecados. El pecado nos aleja de Jesús y
esto lo entristece porque Él quiere que todos lleguemos al Cielo con Él. Nosotros podemos demostrar nuestro amor al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús con nuestras obras: en esto precisamente
consiste la devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús.
Las promesas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús:
Jesús le prometió a Santa Margarita de Alacoque, que si una persona comulga los primeros
viernes de mes, durante nueve meses seguidos, le concederá lo siguiente:
1. Les daré todas las gracias necesarias a su estado (casado(a), soltero(a), viudo(a) o consagrado(a) a Dios).
2. Pondré paz en sus familias.
3. Los consolaré en todas las aflicciones.
4. Seré su refugio durante la vida y, sobre todo, a la hora de la muerte.
5. Bendeciré abundantemente sus empresas.
6. Los pecadores hallarán misericordia.
7. Los tibios se harán fervorosos.
8. Los fervorosos se elevarán rápidamente a gran perfección.
9. Bendeciré los lugares donde la imagen de mi Corazón sea expuesta y venerada.
10. Les daré la gracia de mover los corazones más endurecidos.
11. Las personas que propaguen esta devoción tendrán su nombre escrito en mi Corazón y jamás será borrado de Él.
12. La gracia de la penitencia final: es decir, no morirán en desgracia y sin haber recibido los Sacramentos.
Oración introductoria de cada día
Corazón amantísimo de Jesús digno de todo amor y de toda mi adoración; movido por el deseo de reparar y de lavar las
ofensas graves y numerosas hechas contra ti, y para evitar que yo mismo me manche de la culpa ingrato, te ofrezco y te
consagro enteramente mi corazón, mis afectos, mi trabajo y todo mi ser.
Por cuanto son pobres mis méritos, ¡oh Jesús!, te ofrezco mis oraciones, mis actos de penitencia, de humildad, de obediencia y de las demás virtudes que practicaré hoy y durante mi vida entera hasta el último suspiro.
Propongo hacer todo por tu gloria, por tu amor y para consolar a tu Corazón. Te suplico aceptes mi humilde ofrecimiento por las manos purísimas de tu Madre y Madre mía María.
Dispón de mí y de mis cosas, Señor, según el beneplácito de tu Corazón. Amén.
