We are family
In today’s mindset we speak of establishing borders and
limitations to protect ourselves from possible invasions,
incursions, abuses or being imposed on by others.
Psychologically, this may seem healthy, but it is in contrast
with God’s acts. God is, above all else relationship. And it
is a relationship that invades us, without respect to borders
or boundaries simply because it does not distinguish
between space and time. It is a pure, generous and
unconditional love. Psychologists insist that each person
must establish their own boundaries, since it appears to be
healthier, and since it appears to healthier, and sometimes
even necessary, to protect the dignity of the person and
prevent someone created in the image of God from being
stepped on, abused or trampled. It is necessary. To protect

the image of the God who created us, we are not, nor do
we have any other identity outside of this relationship with
God and each other. Therefore, it is essential to live our
relationships in the way of the Trinity: living in continuous
relationship with God in order to live in the same way with
others: family, co-workers and those in our communities,
cities and country. It is a relationship of generous and
unconditional devotion, yet with wisdom, in other words,
with dignity and justice.

For reflection
In which relationships do I sometimes feel pressured,
imposed upon, and where boundaries of respect fro my
personal dignity are violated? How do I deal with it? Do I
sometimes place boundaries on my devotion to others as a
way of closing myself up and protecting my comfort? What
things do I protect the most? In what moments during this
week have I given myself generously and without
selfishness, even if it meant a sacrifice on my comfort and
my “space”?

CHURCH RENOVATIONS … thank you to more than 50 of our
parishioners who stopped by to see the renovation model
and to make suggestions to the architects … the architects
really enjoyed meeting you and as you might know the
grandfather and father of our architects (Mr. Viggo
Rambusch and Mr. Edwin Rambusch) worked on our church
in the early 1900’s and some of his work is still visible …
the suggestions will be included in a new model and final
plans made … if all goes well we hope to close the upper
church in December and use the Lower Church for Masses,
funerals and confessions during the months of December,
January, February and March … Holy Week and Easter next
year (2011) will celebrate our renovated church! It should
be exciting … more information to come.
TOMORROW … is Memorial Day … Monday, May 31st … Mass
at 9 am ONLY in the church … Mass at the Cemetery at 11
am. All are invited to our cemetery … there is adequate
parking on Lafayette Avenue … begin the day by
remembering those men and women who served our
country in prayer at the Cemetery.

ST. RAYMOND’S SCHOOLS … we continue to register for a
very limited number of seats in our 3 schools (several
classes are already closed and there is a waiting list) …

that there is a family plan for those who have children in
our elementary school and either of the high schools … the

PARKCHESTER REUNION … on Saturday, May 16 was a super
success with so many people returning to the Loew’s
American Movie Theater and the Oval to renew old
acquaintances … nearly 100 “oldtimers” returned to visit
the elementary school and the new Academy (the old
elementary school) and so many stayed for the 5:30 pm
Mass … welcome back … good to have you!
YEAR FOR THE PRIESTS … have you ever thought about
becoming a priest? One of our graduated seniors will begin
his period of training in September and we pray for him …
but how about several more … speak to one of the priests
… it is the greatest life!
THE SUNDAY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM … has ended
for this year … thank you to Sister Teresa, Sister Ana and
the volunteer catechists for a successful program for
nearly 200 children … parents and children are reminded
SUNDAY CHURCH even through the summer months …

Patricia, Sr. MaryAnn, Br. Daniel and the students in all
three schools for the rock garden and the statue of the
Good Shepherd ... it is a beautiful addition to our church
grounds in honor of the Priests of St. Raymond’s in this
Year for Priests. Please pray for us.

Ana, one of our Pax Christi Sisters, who is being
transferred by her order … Sister will be the new novice
mistress for the order and her job will be to care for the
new Sister entering the order … we want to thank Sister

followed by a reception with light refreshments in the
auditorium. All are invited to say thank you to a wonderful
Sister who worked so hard with our young people, our
adults and so many others.

will examine this important topic from a spiritual and
practical side so that our teens will be better equipped to
recognize and take necessary steps in avoiding and
overcoming addiction. This night will give them hope
that it is possible to live a life in the freedom that God
wants for us.

tiene un futuro pero recuerde que los niños se cansan
pronto... deje su chicle afuera de la Iglesia o en los botes
de basura en el baño... Recuerde que usted está en la
Santa presencia de Dios y debemos estar en admiración y

establecer fronteras y limites. Es decir, de protegerse uno
mismo contra las posibles invasiones, intromisiones, abusos
o imposiciones de otros. Puede ser que esto sea sano
psicológicamente, pero en cierto modo, contrasta con el
hacer de Dios. Dios es, ante todo, relación. Y es una
relación de amor que a menudo no conoce fronteras. A
veces la relación invade, no sabe de fronteras ni limites,
porque no distingue entre espacios y tiempos. El amor es
pura difusión generosa, incondicional. Insisten los
psicológicos en que cada persona tiene que establecer sus
limites y eso parece sano y en muchas ocasiones muy
necesario, para proteger la propia dignidad y evitar los
atropellos, abusos y pisoteos a la persona hecha a imagen y
semejanza de Dios. Es necesario establecer límites para
mantener la justicia. Una cosa distinta es situar fronteras y
limites por egoísmo, por tratar de proteger la propia
comodidad o por intentos de cerrarse a otros.
Y sin embargo, cuando se trata de la sabiduría de dios,
la experiencia es que Dios no ha establecido fronteras ni
limites para su amor. La vida de la Trinidad es pura y
constante con Dios para poder vivir en relación constante
con los demás: con nuestra familia, con nuestros
compañeros de trabajo y con nuestras comunidades,
ciudades y país. La relación se entrega generosa e
incondicionalmente, pero con sabiduría, es decir, con
dignidad y justicia.
Para la reflexión
¿En qué relaciones estoy a veces implicado que me ponen
presiones, imposiciones y pudieran traspasar los limites del
respeto por mi propia dignidad? ¿Cómo lidio con eso? ¿Pongo a
veces limites a mi entrega como medio de cerrarme y proteger
mi comodidad? ¿Qué cosas protejo más? ¿En qué momentos de
esta semana he sabido darme generosa y desinteresadamente,
aunque supusiera un sacrificio de mi comodidad y de mi propio
“espacio”?
