Fr. Ben Notes:
Thank you to those that attended the Parish
Mission this past week. Thank you also for your
contributions to help support our Franciscan
seminarians and the Senior Friars of the Province.
I want to encourage you to attend our Scripture
class on the 4 Gospels and come to appreciate
each Gospel author and their point of view.
Scripture knowledge is an area of weakness for
most Catholics, so please take advantage of this
opportunity to learn.
16 Hours for the Lord Program - Please read
about and participate. As a child I do remember
going to Church in my pajama’s and winter coat
for 40 hour devotion. It was a great memory being
in the dark Church at night. It was really, really
late (probably 11 pm) and I was small but I did my
hour with the Lord, some of it like Peter and the
Apostles (sleeping).

Lenten Scripture Class:
4 Gospels in 3 hours
Class begins this Tuesday
night, March 1st, at 7:00 pm.
Please meet in the auditorium
and remember to bring your
bibles. Fr. Ben promises class will
be just an hour.
Year of Mercy Special Event
16 Hours for the Lord ~ March 4th
Pope Francis has invited that we participate in
a worldwide initiative of 24 Hours for the Lord.
We will do the prayer portion this week when
the Archbishop is encouraging us to do it. We
will do the service portion later in the year on a
possible warmer, drier day.
Our 16 Hours begin with Stations of the
Cross, this FRIDAY at 6 pm and
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION at 6:30 pm
until 9:00 am. SOLEMN BENEDICTION will
follow at 9 am (with incense).

40 DAYS FOR LIFE
Please join us for 40 days for Life on Tuesdays at 6:00
p.m. at the Clatsop County Courthouse. Anyone
respecting life from conception to natural death is
invited, Catholic or not. We will say a Rosary unless other
denominations are present, otherwise 40 Our Fathers.
Easter Flower Offerings
If you would like to make an offering in
memory/honor of a loved one, Easter
Flower Offering envelopes are available in
the pews and at the entrance of the
church. The names will be published in
the Easter bulletin and the deadline is
Sunday, March 20th. Thank you!

Ministry Help Wanted
Fr. Ben gave Ed Betts an extensive list of Ministry
needs for Holy Week. If you can help as a lector,
usher, Eucharistic Minister, or greeter, please let Ed
know so he can schedule you.
St. Vincent de Paul
Altar Servers get front row seats to the Holy Week
action by contacting Fergus and volunteering to help
out.
Food for Kids needs - Hot Chocolate individual packs,
Cup O'Noodles
2 Masters Of Ceremonies are now needed (we have
one volunteer), for two nights of the Tridiuum. This
would involve being on the altar, knowing that
night’s liturgy very well and a meeting with Fr. Ben.
If you are interested, let Fr. Ben know.
Palm plants needed for Palm Sunday
We are looking for large green foliage plants
(palms preferred) to help with the liturgical
environment.
The plants would need to be here on
Saturday, March 19th and could be
picked up after the Spanish Mass
on Sunday, March 20th. Call Amy
in the parish office if you can
help us out. Thank you!
Pantry needs - Peanut Butter, Jelly/Jam, Chili
Lent is a call not just to “give up something” but more
important to “give something for the poor.” Wherever
you live in the parish, there are poor families within
walking distance of your home. When in need, they
ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect, ringing your
doorbell.
In the month of February, through your gifts, the
Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to assist 132
families from our Food Pantry program; and provide
140 weekend food bags to Astor and Lewis & Clark
elementary students from our Food for Kids program.

Collection
Next weekend, our parish will take up the Catholic
Relief Services Collection. This Collection supports
six Catholic agencies that serve the disguised Jesus
in our suffering brothers & sisters around the world.
His disguise might be that of those suffering from
natural disaster, those displace by violence or war, or
those migrants searching for a better life. Next week,
please give to the Catholic Relief Services Collection
and help Jesus in disguise.

Pornography is overwhelmingly prevalent today,
among young and old, as well as men and women.
It’s a new reality that needs to be faced head on.
Scientific evidence has shown that pornography
produces the same chemical reaction as heroin,
and thus needs to be treated as seriously as other
addictions. Even the secular media is calling
attention to this destructive behavior, and the
church should continue as well.

40 DÍAS POR LA VIDA
Hemos empezado 40 días por la vida los martes
de 6:00 de la tarde en la corte del Condado de
Clatsop. Cualquiera que respete la vida desde la
concepción hasta la muerte natural es invitado,
católico o no. Vamos a rezar un Rosario a
menos que otras denominaciones estén
presentes, en ese caso vamos a rezar 40

Ofrenda para las flores de pascua
Si desea hacer una ofrenda en memoria o en
honor de un ser querido para las, flores de
Pascua. Los sobres están disponibles en las
bancas y en la entrada de la iglesia. Los
nombres serán publicados en el boletín de
Pascua y la fecha límite es el domingo, 20
de marzo. ¡Gracias!
Notas del Padre Ben:
Gracias a los que asistieron a la misión de la
parroquia la semana pasada. Gracias también por sus
contribuciones para ayudar a nuestros seminaristas
franciscanos y los frailes ancianos de la provincia.
Quiero animarlos a asistir a nuestra clase de la
sagrada escritura de los 4 evangelios y llegar a
apreciar cada autor del Evangelio y su punto de vista.
El conocimiento de las escrituras es un área de
debilidad para la mayoría de los católicos, así que por
favor aproveche esta oportunidad para aprender.
16 horas para el programa del Señor – Por favor lea
y participe. De niño recuerdo ir a la iglesia en mis
pijamas y mi chamarra de invierno para la devoción
de 40 horas. Es un gran recuerdo estar en la iglesia
oscura en la noche. Era realmente muy pero muy
tarde (probablemente las 11:00 de la noche) y era
pequeño pero pasaba mi hora con el Señor, algunas
de ellas como Pedro y los apóstoles (durmiendo).

Evento especial del año de la
misericordia
16 horas para el Señor ~ 4 de marzo
Papa Francis ha invitado a que participemos en
una iniciativa mundial de 24 horas para el
Señor. Vamos a hacer la parte de la oración
esta semana cuando el arzobispo está
animándonos a hacerlo. Haremos la parte de
servicio más adelante en el año en un día
cálido y seco.
Nuestras 16 horas comenzaran con las
estaciones de la Cruz, este viernes a las 6 de la
tarde y adoración eucarística a las 6:30 de la
tarde hasta las 9:00 de la mañana. Bendición
solemne seguirá a las 9 de la mañana (con
incienso).

De la Arquidiócesis de Portland:
Pornografía es abrumadoramente predominante
hoy en día, entre jóvenes y viejos, así como
hombres y mujeres. Es una nueva realidad que
necesita ser enfrentada con la cabeza. La evidencia
científica ha demostrado que la pornografía
produce la misma reacción química que la heroína
y así debe ser tratada tan seriamente como otras
adicciones. Los medios seculares de comunicación
están llamando la atención sobre este
comportamiento destructivo, y la iglesia debe
seguir haciendo lo mismo.

El próximo fin de semana, nuestra parroquia tendrá
una colecta de servicio católico de socorro. Esta
colecta es compatible con seis agencias católicas que
sirven al Jesús disfrazado en nuestro sufrimiento de
hermanos y hermanas alrededor del mundo.
Su
disfraz puede ser los que sufren desastres naturales,
los desplazan por la violencia o guerra o los
emigrantes buscando una vida mejor. La semana que
viene, por favor den a la colecta de servicios católicos
de socorro y ayuden a Jesús disfrazado. Gracias! Que
Dios los bendiga.
Registración
Nos gustaría que todos se registren en nuestra
parroquia y que estemos más envueltos en las cosas
de la iglesia. Esto hace el trabajo de todos más fácil.
Últimamente nuestra comunidad ha tenido la
necesidad de pedir cartas de recomendación de que
son católicos y que pertenecen a nuestra iglesia. Si
estamos registrados y participamos en lo que
podamos hacer esto hace que podamos tener una
carta de recomendación más poderosa. Por favor no
lo dejemos para mañana.
