THE GOOD SHEPHERD
This Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally referred to as
“Good Shepherd Sunday.” Today we listen to the words of the
Lord as he refers to himself as the “good shepherd who lays
down his life for the sheep.” It is sometimes so difficult for us to
grasp the reality that anyone would lay down his or her own
life for the sake of someone else. This is especially true in a
society that places high value on power and personal
advancement, often at the cost of “trampling” on other people
in order to climb the ladder. Today’s scriptures point to the one
we are called to emulate—the one who lays down his life for his
sheep. Today’s scriptures challenge us to discover ways to bring
life to those around us—to build up rather than to tear down.

ANNUAL GOLDEN WEDDING MASS CELEBRATION …
Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during

in the Catholic Church ... godparents need letters of recommendation
from their parish that they are practicing Catholics ... as you know,
godparents are models of the faith and so need to be practicing the
faith ... speak with one of the priests for additional information about
certificates, classes and dates.
SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY … Catholics should be married in
the Catholic Church with the Sacrament of Matrimony and a Mass ...
speak to one of the priests to plan your wedding ... if you are not
married in the Catholic Church, speak with Father Brogan about the
possibility of marriage in the Church through a convalidation process.
FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS … what are your wishes?... funeral
plans should be made so that when you pass away your wishes will be
honored … the usual funeral arrangements include a wake in a funeral
home, Mass in the church and burial in a Catholic cemetery ...

GOD’S WORD TODAY
What does it mean to gather together in the
name of Jesus? Today’s scriptures give us a hint.
Saint Peter tells us that it was in the name of
Jesus that the crippled man was healed. The
psalm reminds us that Jesus is the stone rejected
by the builders that has become the cornerstone.
And Jesus himself reminds us in today’s Gospel that he is the
good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. So today
we gather in the name of the one who is healer, a rejected stone
that became the cornerstone, a good shepherd, and ultimately
the one who laid down his own life to save us from our sins. Let
us absorb the richness of the Lord Jesus made present in the
proclamation of today’s readings.

Last weekend, the Youth Group discussed death and dying. It was a difficult subject, but Fr. Raphael, Ana Peters,
and Carol Jo Fause guided the way with
their life experiences. Members shared moments of struggle and different coping
mechanisms. Following, the group used
prayer as a way to grapple with everyday
difficulties. The meeting ended with
birthday cake for one of the student's
birthdays. This weekend, we will continue with the topic of brokenness by
completing an art project. Students will
identify times of happiness and sadness
by writing their feelings on a piece of
broken mirror. Then, we will glue the
pieces onto a giant cross - symbolizing
their unified brokenness as a reflection of
Christ's love on the cross. We look forward to having the cross blessed at an
upcoming Mass!

MISA DE CELEBRACIÓN ANUAL DE ANIVERSARIOS DE
BODA DE ORO … Todas las parejas que celebran sus 50 años de
casados en le año 2015 están invitados a la Misa Anual de Cincuenta
Aniversario de Bodas. La Santa Misa será celebrada por el Cardenal
Dolan el sábado, 20 de Junio y el domingo, 21 de Junio a las 2:00 pm

y la Hermana Patricia por un exitoso walk-a-thon --- para el Hospital
de Niños Maria Fareri en Valhalla .. uno de nuestros estudiantes de la
escuela primaria fue tratado con éxito el año pasado y agradecemos a
los médicos y el personal por regresarlo sano a sus padres y a
nosotros ... más de $18,000 fueron recaudados para ayudar a los
programas para niños de los hospitales ... GRAN TRABAJO Y QUE
DIOS BENDIGA A TODOS LOS QUE AYUDARON!
MISA EN ESPAÑOL ... el miércoles, 29 de abril ... a las 7 pm será en
la Iglesia de Abajo debido a la Práctica de la 1ra Comunión en la
Iglesia Superior ... por favor tenga en cuenta el cambio de ubicación.
MISA DE ANILLO DE LA ACADEMIA ... el viernes, 1ro de mayo, a
las 12 del mediodía en la Iglesia Superior ... se les invita a asistir.
COROS COMBINADOS ... el coro de adultos, el Coro de la
Academia y el coro de la Escuela Secundaria de Chicos cantarán
juntos el domingo, 3 de mayo en la misa de las 12 del mediodía en el
quinto domingo de Pascua ... gracias a los estudiantes, los adultos y
sus directores por traer la belleza de la música a nuestra misa.
LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
¿Qué significa reunirnos en nombre de Jesús?
Las Escrituras de hoy nos dan una pista. San
Pedro nos dice que fue en nombre de Jesús que el
paralítico fue curado. El salmo nos recuerda que
Jesús es la piedra que desecharon los constructores
y que es ahora la piedra angular. Y el mismo Jesús
nos recuerda en el Evangelio de hoy que él es el buen pastor que
da la vida por sus ovejas. Así es que hoy nos reunimos en el
nombre de aquel que cura, que es la piedra fundamental, el
buen pastor y finalmente el que ha dado la vida para salvarnos
de nuestros pecados. Absorbamos toda la riqueza del Señor
Jesús, que se ha hecho presente en la proclamación de las
lecturas de hoy.
EL BUEN PASTOR
El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua tradicionalmente se conoce
como el “Domingo del Buen Pastor”. Hoy escuchamos las
palabras del Señor cuando se llama a sí mismo “el buen pastor
que da la vida por sus ovejas.” A veces es tan difícil para
nosotros comprender la realidad de que alguien esté dispuesto a
dar su vida por alguien. Esto es muy cierto en una sociedad que
pone tanto énfasis en el poder y en el avance social, con
frecuencia a expensas de “pisotear” a otra gente para escalar a la
cima. Las Escrituras de hoy nos muestran a quién debemos
imitar –al que da su vida por las ovejas. Las Escrituras de hoy
nos retan a descubrir la manera de llevar vida a los que están a
nuestro alrededor –a construir y no a destruir.

1ro de junio, de manera que el calendario pueda ser finalizado ... por
favor consultar con sus líderes de grupo y enviar la información a
