A MESSAGE FROM MONSIGNOR MARC TRUDEAU
I
n the Acts of the Apostles, it is evident that the same Spirit who was manifest through
the person of Jesus is also present and active in and through the Church. The Holy
Spirit initiates the great Mission that Jesus gave to his Apostles to go out to all Nations,
sharing the Good News of our redemption in Christ. The Holy Spirit continues to breathe
life into the People of God, redeemed and recreated through the Resurrection. We experience the presence of the Holy Spirit most especially in the Sacraments. Through each of
the Sacraments, we experience and celebrate the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, our Church and
our world. During the Season of Easter, we have
been privileged to join members of our community
as they received the Sacraments of Initiation. The
Feast of Pentecost, at the terminus of the Season, is
also the beginning of the vision of the Church as
Mission. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit allow us to
take up that Mission as active witnesses and apostles.
T
he essential character of the Church is one of
being missionary. We are called to manifest
the “spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit
of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of wonder and awe in
God’s presence”. (Rite of Confirmation) Some
might ask if the Church holds a monopoly on the
gifts of the Holy Spirit. That is obviously not the
case. All of these gifts can be manifest apart from
the Church as the Spirit works in the world. But
within the context of the Church, and especially
within the context of the Sacrament of Confirmation, we can rely on these gifts to promote the mission of the Church and the unfolding of God’s
Kingdom. These gifts are specifically given to
each of us in order to promote the Church’s mission of evangelization. As we celebrate Pentecost,
we rely on the Spirit’s gracious gift to enliven our
faith and guide our path.

En
los hechos de los apóstoles, es evidente que el mismo espíritu que se manifestó a través de
Jesús está también presente y activo en y a través de la iglesia. El Espíritu Santo inicia la gran
misión que Jesús dio a sus apóstoles para ir a todas las naciones, compartiendo las Buenas Nuevas de
nuestra redención en Cristo. El Espíritu Santo continúa para dar vida a las personas de Dios, redimido
y creado a través de la resurrección. Experimentamos la presencia del Espíritu Santo sobre todo en los
sacramentos. E través de cada sacramento, experimentamos y celebramos la presencia del espíritu Santo en nuestra vidas, nuestra iglesia y nuestro mundo. Durante la temporada de la pascua, hemos tenido
el privilegio de juntarnos con miembros de nuestra comunidad cuando reciben los Sacramentos
de Iniciación. La Fiesta de Pentecostés, en el
término de la temporada, es también el comienzo
de la visión de la iglesia como misión. Los dones
del Espíritu Santo nos permiten tomar esa misión
como un testimonio activo de los apóstoles.
E
l carácter esencial de la iglesia es la de ser
misionera. Nosotros somos llamados a manifestar el “espíritu de sabiduría y de inteligencia, el
espíritu de consejo y fortaleza, el espíritu de
ciencia y piedad, el espíritu de admiración y temor en la presencia de Dios”. (Rito de Confirmación) Alguien podría preguntarse si la iglesia tiene el monopolio de los dones del Espíritu Santo.
Obviamente ese no es el caso. Todos estos dones
pueden manifestarse aparte de la iglesia como el
Espíritu trabaja en el mundo. Pero dentro del
contexto de la iglesia, y especialmente dentro del
contexto del Sacramento de Confirmación, podemos confiar en estos dones para promover la misión de la iglesia y el desarrollo del reino de
Dios. Estos dones son específicamente dados a
cada uno de nosotros con el fin de promover la
misión evangelizadora de la iglesia. Cuando celebramos pentecostés, nos basamos en el regalo
gratis del espíritu para animar nuestra fe y guiar
nuestro camino.

“Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting oneself in the hands of
God, at his disposition, and listening to His voice in the depths
of our hearts.” -Mother Teresa
Prayer does not need words. In our natural world God’s goodness & love are
revealed to us in the beauty and marvels of his creation. God can and does
speak to us through art, music, literature and everyday conversation. In Sacred
Scripture God’s Word teaches and inspires us, comforts and challenges us each
day. And when we allow ourselves the time and space to be still and listen
God can encounter us in the stillness of our hearts, with wordless love.
This nonverbal prayer includes meditation and contemplation. In meditative
prayer we reflect on the meaning of texts found in Scripture or other spiritual
readings. Contemplative Prayer, also done in silence, requires that we try to
empty our mind so that we can come into a spiritual awareness, a prayer of the
heart. Lectio Divina, Centering Prayer, Taize -Style Prayer, and the spiritual
exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola are ways to practice non verbal prayer. In this
kind of prayer instead of speaking to God, we put ourselves in a place of
awareness of God’s presence and just listen.

The weekly food distribution has taken place
every Wednesday morning here for years and is
part of our Christian Service Ministry. However,
we now serve over 300 families each week.

El Espíritu de Dios descendió sobre los apóstoles
reunidos comunitariamente con ocasión de la fiesta
del pentecostés judío. Los judíos celebraban ese día
la fiesta de la siega, día de regocijo y de acción de
gracias. En esa ocasión se ofrecía a Dios las primicias de lo que había producido la tierra. Después
llego a hacer una fiesta de aniversario de la alianza
que tuvo lugar unos cincuenta días después de la
salida de Egipto. La iglesia, representada por los
apóstoles, celebra el don de la ley nueva, la nueva
alianza. El hecho de que hoy estemos celebrando la
fiesta de Pentecostés, la iglesia nos está diciendo
que entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento, o
Alianza, para usar una palabra bíblica, no hay separación sino continuidad.
Pentecostés judío
En el pentecostés judío del Sinaí, Dios habló por
medio de truenos y relámpagos; en el Pentecostés
cristiano del Cenáculo, descendió el Espíritu con la
imagen de luz que ilumina y fuego que da calor. No
escribe Dios sobre piedras, sino sobre corazones.
El Pentecostés cristiano es el misterio que celebra
la terminación de la obra redentora del Salvador y
el comienzo de la iglesia, continuada para extenderse por todos los rincones de la tierra. Desde entonces, los apóstoles proclaman [en nuestra propia
lengua] (en todas las lenguas) las maravillas de
Dios, es decir las manifestaciones del Espíritu, que
es inspirador del testimonio, del diálogo y del compromiso. De una parte, la iglesia, en estado de comunidad, trabaja con los bautizados para hacerlos
más evangélicos; el Espíritu actúa por medio de la
iglesia en el mundo (sobre todo entre los pobres)
para hacerlo reino de Dios.
La iglesia, reunida comunitariamente en el cenáculo, recibe la efusión del Espíritu viviente y creador
bajo la mirada serena y atenta de María. Nunca es
más ostensible la relación de María con la iglesia
que en la comunidad primitiva, en el momento de
su confirmación como nuevo pueblo de Dios. Pentecostés, es pues, la fiesta de la manifestación de la
iglesia, con María al frente, formada por los apóstoles y discípulos del Señor. Y, así como la luz del
cirio pascual se extiende en la comunidad sin menoscabo de la fuente, así ocurre con el fuego pen-
tecostal, que se distribuye sin que mengue su intensidad.
Los Hechos de los Apóstoles nos relatan la venida
del Espíritu Santo como una grandiosa “teofanía” o
manifestación del poder de Dios. El viento huracanado y las lenguas de fuego son manifestaciones
visibles del gran acontecimiento de la venida del
Espíritu Santo que transformó a lo apóstoles y dio
vida a la iglesia.
Pentecostés y Resurrección de Cristo.
Pentecostés como la resurrección de Cristo, fue un
hecho que aconteció una vez, pero perdura como
modelo de otras intervenciones del Espíritu. En
este sentido la iglesia vive un permanente Pentecostés, porque el Espíritu no cesa de comunicarse y
sigue guiando a la iglesia con su luz y su fuerza
interior. Permanentemente surgen en la iglesia movimientos apostólicos, nuevas comunidades, santos
modernos para renovar a la iglesia con la fuerza del
Espíritu.
Pentecostés es la respuesta de Dios a un mundo
dividido que solamente en el amor del Espíritu
Santo podrá encontrar el camino de la verdadera
unidad y fraternidad. Cristo en el evangelio de hoy
nos trae la paz, nos envía por el mundo y nos envía
al Espíritu Santo para el perdón de nuestros pecados. Pentecostés debe ser entonces, una fiesta que
señale un cambio en nuestras vidas.
Reflexión
Tenemos una gran tarea: evangelizar al
mundo, transformarnos para transformar,
renovarnos para renovar. Que el Espíritu
Santo sea desde hoy nuestro guía, nuestra
luz y que nos haga comprender lo que hasta
ahora no habíamos entendido, y que este
Pentecostés sea para cada uno de nosotros
el comienzo de una nueva vida de compromiso y acción.

la oración no verbal

La oración no necesita palabras. En el mundo natural, la bondad y el amor de Dios se nos
revelan en la belleza y las maravillas de su creación. Dios puede y debe hablar con nosotros a través del arte, la música, la literatura y la conversación cotidiana. En la Palabra de
Dios, la Sagrada Escritura nos enseña y, nos conforta e inspira y nos desafía cada día. Y
cuando dejamos el tiempo y espacio para estar quieto y escuchar a Dios nos puede encontrar en el silencio de nuestro corazón, con amor sin palabras.
Esta oración no verbal incluye la meditación y la contemplación. En la oración de meditación reflexionamos sobre el significado de los textos que se encuentran en la Escritura o de
otras lecturas espirituales. La oración contemplativa, también se hace en silencio, requiere
que tratemos de vaciar nuestra mente para que podamos entrar en una conciencia espiritual,
una oración del corazón. Lectio Divina, Oración Centrada, Oración Taize-Style, y los ejercicios espirituales de San Ignacio de Loyola son maneras de practicar la oración no verbal.
En este tipo de oración en vez de hablar a Dios, nos ponemos en el lugar de la conciencia
de la presencia de Dios y sólo escuchamos.

América, una conocida revista Católica nacional.
La distribución semanal de alimentos se ha llevado a cabo todos los miércoles por la mañana aquí
durante años y es parte de nuestro ministerio de
Servicio Cristiano. Sin embargo, ahora atendemos
a más de 300 familias cada semana.

PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN
Cell Phones: A Mixed Blessing
Cell phones with photographic capability are a great blessing but
they can certainly be misused as well. Have a healthy suspicion of
anyone using a cell phone in an awkward or unusual way. Be especially cognizant of any suspicious cell phone use in areas where
people could be in various states of undress or where children are
gathered. If you see someone using a cell phone in a way that appears suspicious, don't be afraid to ask what he or she is doing or to
alert someone in a position of authority about your concerns.
