Thursday, September 29 is the Feast of St.
Michael the Archangel. Fr. Gonzalez will
celebrate a solemn high Mass in the
Extraordinary Form (Latin) at 6:30pm.
Este jueves 29 de septiembre es la Festividad de
San Miguel Arcángel. El Padre Gonzalez
celebrara una misa solemne en (latín) la Forma
Extraordinaria a las 6:30 pm.
St. Michael Festival
Join us for Tacoberfest Saturday, October 1,
11:00am-6:00pm on the parish grounds. We are
hosting Memphis’ first taco competition, along
with salsa and margarita competitions. There will
also be a petting zoo, pony rides, and live music.
Door prizes are available for a donation of $10: a
statue of St. Michael, an iPad, and a 40-inch LED
television. Tickets for door prizes are available after
the Masses or at the Parish Office. Tacoberfest
registration forms are in the Parish Office. Come
join the fun!
St. Michael School News
Are you interested in tutoring adults in the
English language? Tutors work at St. Michael
School with St. Michael parents. Time is
somewhat flexible on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays. The only requirement is fluency
in the English language. Training is provided
through Holy Spirit Parish Social Ministry. For
more information, call Sony Davis at 757-9140.
Festival de San Miguel
Acompáñanos este sábado, primero de octubre de
10 de la mañana a las 6pm en los terrenos de la
parroquia. Tenemos por primera vez en Memphis
la Competencia de Tacos, junto con salsa y
margaritas. Tendremos paseo a pony, animalitos,
música. Premios de puerta por una donación de
$10, en primer lugar una estatua de San Miguel, un
iPad y una tv de 40”. Tickets están disponibles
después de cada misa y por supuesto en la oficina.
Formas de registro para Tacoberfest están
disponibles en la oficina de la iglesia y la escuela.

Archbishop Arthur Roche, Secretary of the
Congregation for Divine Worship, is coming to
Memphis from the Vatican Thursday, October 6
at 7pm to St. Louis Catholic Church. He is the next
speaker in the 2016 Lumen Civitatis Jubilee Year of
Mercy series. His talk is entitled "Mercy and the

Bishop Terry Steib has led the clergy,
parishioners and community in the Diocese of

6:30pm at Holy Rosary Church. This is a special

LOOKING BEYOND OURSELVES
MIRAR MÁS ALLÁ DE NOSOTROS MISMOS
The message found in today’s readings is an ofttold story. Citizen Kane, Daddy Warbucks, and King
Midas are only a few of the familiar fictional characters
who thought enormous wealth could buy happiness and
fulfillment. Daddy Warbucks admitted stepping on a
few people in his climb to the top. Kane tried to buy the
printed word and stardom for his young wife, while King
Midas conjured immense wealth and tragedy by his
very touch.
We learn clearly in today’s readings that none
of this is really possible. True happiness comes from
caring for someone other than ourselves. It comes from
the pursuit of the virtues Paul described to Timothy:
faith, love, gentleness, godliness, righteousness, and
endurance. The Gospel reminds us that we dare not
ignore the needs of others, acting as though we don’t
notice their suffering. God’s call to us is much too clear
to disregard for even one more day.
El mensaje de las lecturas de hoy es una vieja
historia. El Ciudadano Kane, Papi Warbucks y el Rey
Midas son sólo unos pocos de los familiares personajes
ficticios que pensaban que con una enorme fortuna
podrían comprar la felicidad y la completa satisfacción.
Papi Warbucks admite haber pisoteado a algunas
personas en su ascenso a la cumbre. Kane trató de
comprar la palabra impresa y el estrellato para su joven
esposa, mientras que el Rey Midas conjura inmensa
fortuna y tragedia sólo con su toque.
Aprendemos claramente en las lecturas de hoy
que nada de esto es posible. Alcanzamos la verdadera
felicidad cuando nos interesamos en los demás. Cuando
practicamos las virtudes que Dios describe a Timoteo:
fe, amor, humildad, piedad, rectitud y justicia. El
Evangelio nos recuerda que no osemos ignorar las
necesidades de los demás, actuando como si no
notáramos su sufrimiento. El llamado de Dios a
nosotros es demasiado claro para ignorarlo ni un solo
día más.
