This Sunday’s Reflection
- Father Stephen.
Today the Church celebrates the feast of the Dedication
of the Lateran Basilica in Rome. The Basilica of St. John
Lateran is the cathedral of Rome and is the Popes’s
cathedral as the Bishop of Rome. The honouring of this
sacred church was a way of expressing love and
veneration for the Roman Church, which, as St. Ignatius
of Antioch says, “presides in charity” over the whole
Catholic community. Our readings today use images of
the temple and recalls the essential truth that the temple
made of stones is a symbol of the living Church, our
Christian community. In their letters the apostles Peter
and Paul understood the church as a “spiritual edifice,”
built by God with “living stones,” namely, Christians
themselves, built upon the one foundation of Jesus
Christ, who is called the “cornerstone”. So our parish
Church is made up of both living
stones, you the parishioners of this
parish, and also clay bricks which
give us a place to come together to
worship God. Both are important and
we must build up and maintain both
dimensions of our Church the living
stones and the bricks and mortar of
our Church. In my homily two weeks
ago I mentioned the precepts of the
Church, one of which was, “You shall
help to provide for the needs of the
Church.” The needs of the church are
many and varied and it is your
responsibility to meet them. For over
two years I have published in our
bulletin our estimated weekly costs
and the income from the previous
week’s collection. All this time our
weekly collection has fallen about 25 % short of our
expenses and you just choose to ignore the fact. I must
tell you today that every single one of you must increase
your weekly contributions by 25% or we cannot continue
to pay our bills. Every year we incur a $50,000 deficit
which is depleting our cash reserve. You would not be so
irresponsible with your finances at home or your would
lose your house. Apart from a financial need the parish
also has many other needs which is your responsibility to
meet. It is your responsibility to evangelize and bring
people into the church. It is your responsibility to provide
altar servers and people to train them. It is your
responsibility to prepare for ministries in which you have
offered to serve. It is your responsibility to come to
church on time - be here on time. Today as we celebrate
the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica as a sign of our
dedication to our church, let us all appreciate the great
gift of our church and all - not just a few - work together
to build up both the living stones and the stones made of
clay and mortar so that there will be a viable legacy for
generations to come. May God continue to bless you
and our parish.

Hoy la Iglesia celebra la fiesta de La Dedicación de la
Basílica de Letrán en Roma. La Basílica de San Juan de
Letrán es la Catedral de Roma y es la Catedral de los
Papas como Obispo de Roma. El homenaje de esta iglesia
sagrada era una manera de expresar el amor y la
veneración por la Iglesia romana, que, como San Ignacio
de Antioquía, dice, "preside en la caridad" a toda la
comunidad católica. Nuestras lecturas de hoy usan las
imágenes del templo y recuerda la verdad esencial del
templo de piedras, es un símbolo de la Iglesia viva, nuestra
comunidad cristiana. En sus cartas de los apóstoles Pedro
y Pablo entendieron la iglesia como un "edificio espiritual",
construida por Dios con "piedras vivas", es decir, los
mismos cristianos, la construyen sobre el fundamento de
Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que se llama la "piedra angular".
Así que nuestra Iglesia parroquial está formada por dos
piedras vivas, ustedes los feligreses de
esta parroquia, y también los ladrillos de
barro que nos dan un lugar a todos para
podernos reunir para adorar a Dios.
Ambas son muy importantes y tenemos
que aumentar y mantener las dos
dimensiones de nuestra Iglesia, las
piedras vivas al igual que la construcción
y el edificio nuestra Iglesia. En mi
homilía de hace dos semanas mencioné
los preceptos de la Iglesia, en donde uno
de los cuales era: "Usted debe contribuir
para cubrir las necesidades de la
Iglesia”. Las necesidades de la iglesia
son muchas y variadas y es su
responsabilidad cumplir con ellas. Por
mas de dos años, he publicado en
nuestro boletín semanal nuestros costos
estimados, y los ingresos procedentes
de la colección de la semanal anterior.
Durante todo este tiempo nuestra
colección semanal ha desminuido alrededor de un 25%
por debajo de nuestros gastos y ustedes solo han optado
por por ignorar este hecho. Hoy debo decirles que todos y
cada uno de ustedes debe aumentar sus contribuciones
semanales en un 25% de lo contrario no vamos a poder
seguir pagando nuestras cuentas. Cada año incurrimos en
un déficit de $50.000, lo que esta agotando nuestra reserva
de efectivo. Usted no debe ser asi de irresponsable con las
finanzas de su casa porque la perdería. Aparte de la
necesidad financiera de la parroquia también hay muchas
otras necesidades que es su responsabilidad en
cumplirlas. Es su responsabilidad evangelizar y traer gente
a la iglesia. Es su responsabilidad de proporcionar acólitos
y tambien personas para capacitarlos. Es su
responsabilidad prepararse en el ministerio que ha ofrecido
servir. Es su responsabilidad de llegar a la iglesia a tiempo
- estar aquí a tiempo. Hoy, al celebrar La Dedicación de la
Basílica de Letrán como un signo de nuestra dedicación a
nuestra iglesia, vamos todos a apreciar el gran regalo de
nuestra iglesia y todos - no sólo algunos - vamos a trabajar
juntos para edificar tanto las piedras vivas como las
piedras de arcilla y cemento de manera que dejemos un
patrimonio viable para las generaciones venideras. Que
Dios los siga bendiciendo a ustedes y nuestra parroquia.

First Communion and Confirmation:
Students attending our parish school of St. John’s are
prepared for First Communion in grade two and for
Confirmation in grade seven. Parents of students
attending public schools are asked to contact Father
Stephen in September of the school year in which your
child is to make their First Communion or be confirmed.

Visits and Prayers for the Sick:
Those who are sick and would like prayers offered at the
weekend Masses please notify the office by Friday
morning. Those who are sick at home or in the hospital
and would like a visit or to receive Communion from
Father Stephen please notify the office.

When Someone Dies:
It is very desirable that a Funeral Mass for those who
have died be held in the church, with their body present.
Exceptions can be made. Please call the parish office for
assistance in planning a funeral.

Praying for vocations: If you love priests and
religious men and women, please support
them by joining us in praying for vocations.
Vocation Saturday is an initiative of the
Vocation Office of the Diocese of Hamilton to
gather people from across the diocese to unite
in prayer for vocations. Join us on Saturday, November 15th, at St.
Michael’s Church in Waterloo, for 9:00 am Mass and Holy Hour for
vocations.

Marriage Tip: At the Synod in Rome, which wrapped up its
deliberations on October 19, 2014, Pope Francis and more than
200 delegates discussed in detail the challenges faced by
families in the world today. In their discussions they reminded us
that we are not alone, that God is with us as we journey. Taking
that message seriously can have a positive impact on your
married relationship – attending Mass as a couple, praying
together and even joining in parish events have proven benefits
in producing happier marriages. God is with us – invite him in
and see how his presence will have a constructive impact on
your married life!
Healing Mass for Those Mourning the Loss of a Child – Losing a
child is a painful and life-altering experience for parents, grandparents
and other family members. The feeling of loss, regardless of the
amount of time that has passed, is often more profound during the
Christmas season. A Diocesan Healing Mass, meant to bring hope to
all those trying to cope with such grief, is planned at the Cathedral
Basilica of Christ the King for Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 4 pm.
Any one who has lost a child of any age from any cause, including
those that have lost a child prior to birth, or who have had a still birth
are invited to this Mass celebrated by Bishop Daniel Miehm. God is
close to those who mourn, come and experience His healing
presence. Registration is preferred, but not necessary, as it will assist
us in knowing how many spaces to reserve and to ensure we have
enough of the small memento each family will receive. Please call

concluyó sus deliberaciones el 19 de octubre de 2014, el Papa
Francisco y más de 200 delegados debatieron con detalle los desafíos

Misa de Sanación por los que han un hijo - La pérdida de un hijo
es una experiencia dolorosa y que altera la vida de los padres,
abuelos y otros miembros de la familia. El sentimiento de pérdida,
independientemente del tiempo que ha pasado, es a menudo más
profundo durante la temporada de Navidad. La Misa de Sanación
Diocesana, tiene la intención de llevar esperanza a todos los que

Bazaar & Schnitzel Dinner: Friday, November 14th in the Parish Hall, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. The Schnitzel
Dinner will be served from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm Cost of $14 per person.
Bazaar Preparations: Set-up for the Bazaar will take place Tuesday, November 11th at 7:00 PM. We ask the
men of the Parish to come out and help with the lifting and setting up of the tables and chairs for the various
booths. Also, ladies if you have donations for the Bazaar please feel free to drop them off during this time. On
Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 PM, the ladies will be busy preparing the various tables. Ladies if you are
working a booth, please come out and lend a hand. We will be accepting donations at this time. On Friday,
November 14th, the ladies of the CWL will be at the hall beginning at 10:00 AM. This would be a good time to
drop off desserts for the dessert table and pies for the dinner. On Saturday, November 15th at 9:30 AM –
Clean up time. Once again we need the assistance of the men of the parish to help put away the tables and
