PROPHETIC ANOINTING
The solemnity of today’s readings invites us into silent
contemplation of the mystery of our redemption. There are
so many levels on which to understand the events of the
Passion. The woman who anoints Jesus acts prophetically in
a way that the other disciples do not yet grasp. Anointing is
for priests, prophets, and kings, and also for the preparation
of the dead. It is for healing and for holiness. Her action
acknowledges the imminent events of the passion and death
of the Lord, and points toward his resurrection and triumph
over evil and death. He is priest and victim, prophet and
God, King and Lord. All these things are acknowledged in
her prophetic anointing.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ...what are your wishes?...
funeral plans should be made so that when you pass away your
wishes willbe honored … the usual funeral arrangements
include a wake in a funeral home, Mass in the church and burial
in a Catholic cemetery ... cremation is usually after the Funeral
Mass with burial of the ashes soon after (not kept at home) ...

SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY ... Catholics should be
married in the Catholic Church with the Sacrament of
Matrimony and a Mass ... speak to one of the priests to plan
your wedding ... if you are not married in the Catholic Church,
speak with Father Brogan about the possibility of marriage in
the Church through a convalidation process.
BAPTISMS ... are celebrated during each month here at St.
Raymond's in English and in Spanish ... parents must be
registered practicing members of the parish ... godparents must
be baptized, have received First Communion and Confirmation
and, if married, married in the Catholic Church ... godparents
need letters of recommendation from their parish that they are
practicing Catholics ... as you know, godparents are models of
the faith and so need to be practicing the faith ... speak with one
of the priests for additional information about certificates,
classes and dates.

GOD’S WORD TODAY
Our Lenten journey of conversion today reaches the
holy city of Jerusalem. “My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?” Throughout Lent we have been journeying
with the Lord to Jerusalem. Today he enters the holy city
amid cries of joy and gladness. Those cries of joy turn
quickly to cries of pain and anguish, which culminate in
the words of abandonment that Jesus utters from the
cross. Imagine the despair the Lord experienced when he
felt abandoned by all, especially his own Father. As we
prepare to listen to God’s word, let us remember the pain
and anguish that the Lord Jesus suffered on our behalf.
The service project last weekend went
phenomenally! The group joked
"teamwork makes the dream work"...
But there was a great deal of truth behind the hard work and dedication of
these young people. We hope the veterans
enjoy their gift boxes!
This week, the group examines Jesus'
challenge to "love your neighbor as
yourself" with a discussion on "The Five
Love Languages." How do we give and
receive love from our family, friends,
and significant others? Gift giving,
words of affirmation, acts of service,
physical touch, or quality time? Our
goal today is to learn more about ourselves and how we can better love our
neighbors. We will close with a
Lenten reflection from the Dynamic
Catholic series by Matthew Kelly.

UNCIÓN PROFÉTICA
La solemnidad de las lecturas de hoy nos invita a una
contemplación silenciosa del misterio de nuestra redención. Hay
tantas maneras de comprender los sucesos de la Pasión. La
mujer que unge a Jesús se comporta proféticamente y de un
modo que los otros discípulos aún no comprenden. La unción es
para los sacerdotes, los profetas y los reyes, y también para la
preparación de los muertos. Es para la sanación y la santidad.
Su acción reconoce los sucesos de la pasión y la muerte del
Señor que se avecinan, y señala hacia la resurrección y el triunfo
sobre el mal y la muerte. Jesús es sacerdote y víctima, profeta y
Dios, Rey y Señor. Todas estas cosas se hacen explícitas en su
unción profética.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
Nuestro camino cuaresmal de conversión llega
hoy a la ciudad santa de Jerusalén. “¡Dios mío,
Dios mío! ¿Por qué me has abandonado?”
Durante toda la Cuaresma hemos venido
caminando con el Señor hacia Jerusalén. Hoy él
entra en la ciudad santa en medio de
aclamaciones de gozo y regocijo. Esas aclamaciones de gozo
pronto se convirtieron en aclamaciones de dolor y angustia, que
culminaron en las palabras de abandono que Jesús pronunció
desde la cruz. Nos podemos imaginar la desesperación que
experimentó el Señor cuando se sintió abandonado de todos,
especialmente de su propio Padre. Al disponernos a escuchar la
palabra de Dios recordemos el dolor y la angustia que el Señor
Jesús sufrió por nosotros.
LECTURAS DE HOY
Evangelio para la procesión de las palmas — ¡Bendito el que
viene en nombre del Señor! (Marcos 11:1-10 o Juan 12:12-16)
Primera lectura — No oculté el rostro a insultos y salivazos,
porque sabía que no quedaría avergonzado (Isaías 50:4-7).
Salmo — Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?
(Salmo 22 (21)).
Segunda lectura — Jesús se despojó totalmente y Dios lo llenó
de exaltación (Filipenses 2:6-11).
Evangelio — La versión de la Pasión y Muerte de Jesús que nos
da Marcos (Marcos 14:1 — 15:47 [15:1-39])

SUFRIMIENTO
Jesús no vino a eliminar el sufrimiento, sino a sufrir con
nosotros. El hombre que sufre no es inútil ni inactivo.
