Someone once said that “it is impossible to amass a
fortune without crushing others.” Perhaps this as an
exaggeration but, as with all exaggerations, there is an
element of truth. In today’s gospel Jesus tells us the story of
the dishonest manager who seeks to use all the resources
within his reach to secure his future It seems something that
is far from our reality, but it is not so difficult to apply, we
are all about to be dismissed from our jobs. In addition,
sooner or later earthly life comes to an end. We don’t know
how much time we have, How do we ensure the future,
eternal life? Jesus recommends that the best thing is to share
with others. Sharing opens up the doors to a better life, here
as well as beyond.
In the end, those dedicated exclusively to caring for their
own and forget others, convert money into an idol, into
another god they serve with passion and devotion; but they
are wrong, because there is only one God.

OUR LADY OF HOPE CREMATION GARDEN … a resting
place for the cremains of your loved ones … for more

to Padre Pio in the new cemetery … ask for Marlene for more
information … you are encouraged to plan ahead for your
funeral and your burial … as you know, funerals can be very
expensive and so planning ahead can be very helpful.
MASS INTENTIONS … you will notice in the bulletin the
names of different people for the different Masses and times …
these people are remembered in a special way at these
particular Masses chosen by their families … if you wish to
remember a person --- living or deceased --- with a Mass go to
the rectory for a particular date and time … the donation for the
Mass is usually $15.
BAPTISMS … all Catholics should be baptized … parents
should be registered in the parish and attending weekly Sunday
Mass in order to have the child baptized … godparents must be
practicing Catholics who have received the sacraments of
Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation and, if married,
married in the church … godparents must be members of a
parish and must be attending weekly Mass … if you are going
to be a godparent, it makes perfect and reasonable sense that
you are practicing the faith and that you are a model for the
child.
MARRIAGE … Catholics should be married in the church with
the Sacrament of Matrimony and as you know the Catholic
Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman in
order to show mutual love and to be open to children (LOVE &
LIFE) … if one of these parts is missing, the Catholic Church
does not consider this to be a Catholic marriage … we also have
a program called CONVALIDATION for those who have been
married only civilly and wish to celebrate the Sacrament of
Marriage … speak with one of the priests about marriage,
convalidations and our understanding of marriage.
PARISH REGISTRATION … all members of the parish should
be registered and receive parish mailings and envelopes … if
you are an adult (18 years and older), you should register to
receive the envelopes and other information from the parish …
you need to be registered in order to receive recommendation
letters, financial statements, tuition rates and other parish
related issues … HOW TO REGISTER? Come to the rectory
office on Castle Hill Avenue … NO ENVELOPES … CALL
MARY ANNE MCNALLY and she will check your address …
sometimes you move and do not tell us, sometimes an
apartment number is missing, sometimes the dog ate your
envelopes … Ms. McNally will solve the problem of no
envelopes.
SICK OR HOMEBOUND … please let the rectory know and a
priest will schedule a visit to bring Holy Communion & the
Anointing of the Sick … in the hospital, let us know and be sure
to tell the doctors and nurses that you are Catholic … each
hospital has a priest who can bring Communion in the hospital
to the patients … they are the hospital chaplains.

IMMIGRATION … The Catholic Church has always been a
champion for and source of support to immigrants. We have
been and are a Church of immigrants. Immigration reform must
be comprehensive: respecting family unity, providing a path to
full participation in our society, securing our boarders in a
humane way, and providing a fair legal immigration system.
These values flow from the social teaching of the Church. It is
the right and responsibility of Catholics to participate in the
political process. As our nation debated immigration reform,
now is a critical time to communicate with our elected officials
— especially those of the U. S. House of Representatives —
about our values and concerns.

LITURGY SURVEY … we are putting the final touches on a
brief questionnaire about our Sunday Masses and your input,
comments and suggestions will be most important … thank you
to the Liturgy Committee for this project to improve our
worship here at St. Raymond’s Parish … more to come! The Lit-
urgy Committee will meet on Tuesday, October 1st at 7 pm in
the rectory to finalize the survey … all are invited to attend.

comprensión del matrimonio.

una iglesia de inmigrantes. La reforma migratoria debe ser
integral: respetando la unidad familiar, ofreciendo un camino a
la participación plena en la sociedad, asegurando nuestras
fronteras de una manera humana y proporcionando un sistema
de inmigración legal justo. Estos valores vienen de la doctrina
social de la Iglesia. Es un derecho y responsabilidad de los
católicos participar en el proceso político. En este momento en el
cual nuestra nación debate la reforma migratoria es critico que
nos comuniquemos con nuestros funcionarios electos—
especialmente aquellos en la Mamara de representantes de los
Estado Unidos—acerca de nuestros valores e interés.

Compartir con los demás
Una vez dijo alguien que “es imposible amasar una
fortuna sin antes hacer harina a los demás”. Posiblemente
sea una exageración pero, como todas las exageraciones,
tiene algo de verdad. En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos
cuenta la historia del administrador injusto que procura
utilizar todos los recursos a su alcance para asegurarse el
futuro. Parece algo muy lejano a nuestra realidad, pero no
es tan difícil aplicarlo: todos estamos apunto de ser
despedidos de nuestro trabajo. Además, la vida terrena se
acaba, tarde o temprano. No sabemos de cuánto tiempo
disponemos. ¿Cómo nos aseguramos el futuro, la vida
eterna? Lo mejor, nos recomienda Jesús, es compartir con
los demás. El compartir nos abre puertas a una vida
mejor, tanto aquí como en el más allá.
Al final, los que se dedican exclusivamente a cuidar lo
suyo y olvidan a los demás, convierten el dinero en un
ídolo, en otro dios al que sirven con pasión y devoción;
pero se equivocan, porque sólo hay un Dios.

dinero es lo más importante en mi vida?
