GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
In one of the readings for this feast day Saint Paul
refers to “different kinds of spiritual gifts” and
“different forms of service, but the same Lord” (1
Corinthians 12:4). Yet spiritual gifts and service can be
mismatched, causing difficulties for the person and the
parish. Think of John, who had been head of the finance
committee for over fifteen years. As an able
businessman and head of his own company he dominated
meetings, tightly controlled the agenda, and managed
to push through “pet projects” by silencing and
alienating other committee members.
John is an example of someone with
strong administrative gifts who needed
a different challenge. Fortunately, John
was tapped by the new pastor to begin
a “Welcome Home” ministry for
Catholics who have left the Church.
This initiative is flourishing as John has
discovered new energy and enthusiasm
in matching his planning skills with
hospitality. Then there is Alice, who
was talked into teaching a parish religion class, although
she had no training and didn’t relate well to young
teens. Alice did not really know her true abilities, so her
service was reluctant and not likely to last. Another
woman on the faith formation team sensed Alice’s
difficulties. They were chatting after class and Alice said
she had just finished arranging the wedding of her third
daughter. Her friend sympathized with all the hard
work, and Alice said “Oh no, I just love weddings!” Alice
now leads a team of parish wedding coordinators, who
help couples through all the arrangements before and
during their special day. She attracts new volunteers
easily because she has such aptitude and love for the
work. The Spirit is enriching the spiritual lives of John
and Alice because their service matches their abilities,
and their service, in turn, is adding new strength to
their parish community.

FATHER LOPEZ … as you know, Father Lopez has been
transferred to the parish of St. Rose of Lima in Manhattan …
we will miss him not only in the parish but also in the rectory
… we --- priests --- all enjoyed living with him and he made us
laugh in his own quiet way … our lives as priests are always
filled with wonderful and satisfying times but there are also
difficult times especially when we have to leave a parish, our
colleagues and our friends … we are looking for someone to
take Father Lopez’s place here at St. Raymond’s and we are
looking to you to encourage a vocation to the priesthood from
your own children … our prayers, our blessings to Father Lopez
… we will miss you and we are so grateful for all that you did

Father Richard Czajkowski, a Maryknoll Priest from our parish,
who is celebrating his 50th Anniversary as a priest … Fr.
Czajkowski has spent most of his life working in Japan with
Maryknoll as a missionary … He will celebrate the 5:30 PM Mass
on Saturday, June 18 and he invites the parishioners to be with
him as he thanks God for his priestly vocation which began
here in St. Raymond’s … he will be joined by family members
and his niece who lives here in the parish … ALL ARE

SUNDAY, JUNE 26 … is the Feast of Corpus Christi --- the feast
of the Body and Blood of Jesus … we will have a short
procession after the 10:30 AM Mass … we will assemble in the
church plaza … process to Tremont Avenue and enter the

the church plaza … we invite our parishioners from the 10:30
am Mass and those coming to the 12 noon Mass to be a part of
the celebration at 11:30 AM in the church plaza.

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE … beginning June 27, there will be no
7 am Mass during the week … there will be no Mass at 4:30 PM
on Sundays beginning July 3 … please mark your calendars …
the regular schedule will resume after Labor Day in

CHURCH DRESS … is not BEACH DRESS … please be aware of
modesty and proper attire --- men and women! Please turn off
the cell phones and discard the gum before coming to pray and
to receive Holy Communion … respect!
SACRED HEART SOCIETY … begins its Novena to the Sacred
Heart with a special afternoon of prayer and reflection --- on
Saturday, June 25 from 2:30 pm to 5 pm in the Lower Church
… guest speaker will be Father Ato from St. Emeric’s Parish in

is God’s greatest gift to the church and we need to understand
what we are doing and what we are saying … over the next few
months we will publish some articles to explain the changes
and our new responses … it will be an opportunity to come to
know in a deeper way our friend, Jesus, in the Mass … there is

Father Bill on Marriage...
What I would want the reader to understand is this: the
last century allowed psychological evidence to be raised as
a contributing factor in the breakup of a marriage. What do
I mean? Take for granted that someone is married to an
alcoholic or a person who is a homosexual. If it could be
proved this condition existed prior to the marriage, it is safe
to say your chance of getting an annulment is that much
greater. Why is this important? Because it shows that one
party could not make the commitment to marriage that is
required. You see why you must be honest in presenting
your case and prepared to defend it by evidence. This last
point must be emphasized. You must realize you are in a
legal process. Evidence to sustain your position must be
gathered. This entails approaching family and friends who
might give testimony on your behalf. I've often found reluctance on the part of some to do this. Well, the simple
truth is you must in order to get your annulment.

NUEVAS ORACIONES Y NUEVAS RESPUESTAS … empezaremos
nuevas oraciones y nuevas respuestas en nuestra Misa en
diciembre … la Misa es regalo más grande de Dios a la iglesia y
nosotros debemos comprender lo que hacemos y lo que
decimos … sobre los próximos meses que publicaremos algunos
artículos para explicar los cambios y nuestras nuevas
respuestas … será una oportunidad de conocer en una manera
más profunda a nuestro amigo, Jesús, en la Misa … hay mucha

EL PULPITO, LAS RENOVACIONES DEL SANTUARIO, SILLA DEL
CELEBRANTE Y 3 DE LAS PUERTAS DE LA IGLESIA! Los artículos
restantes incluyen: 50 BANCOS DE LA IGLESIA, VARIOS DE LOS
MURALES, EL TABERNACULO, LOS MUEBLES DEL SANTUARIO, EL
PASILLO PRINCIPAL, EL SISTEMA DE MICROFONOS, EL MOSAICO
CENTRAL DEL PASILLO … considerar por favor uno de estos
artículos para conmemorar a usted mismo o para un miembro
de la familia … gracias!
EN LA IGLESIA … notar por favor los cuatro murales en los
cruceros de la iglesia: LA INMACULADA CONCEPCION, CRISTO Y
LOS DOCTORES EN EL TEMPLO, LA MUERTE DE SAN JOSE Y EL
ESCAPE A EGIPTO --- todas las hermosas obras de arte para
oración y meditación … caminar lentamente alrededor de la
iglesia y ver tantos nuevos y inspiradores artículos.
PARA SU INFORMACIÓN … no habrá música los sábados en la
Misa de tarde el sábado, 2 de julio ni el sábado, 3 de
septiembre … el líder de canción y organista disfrutarán de un
poco de un descanso en esos dos sábados … marcar por favor
sus calendarios.

LOS DONES DEL ESPÍRITU
En una de las lecturas de la fiesta de hoy san Pablo se
refiere a “diferentes dones, pero el mismo Espíritu” y
“diferentes servicios, pero el Señor es el mismo” (1 Corintios
12:4). Sin embargo, los dones y el servicio pueden estar mal
emparejados, causando así dificultades tanto para la persona
como para la parroquia. Pongamos a Juan
como ejemplo. Él ha sido el coordinador del
comité de finanzas por más de quince años.
Juan, que es dueño de su propio negocio,
trata siempre de llevar las riendas de las
reuniones y de controlar la agenda, y se las
arregla para empujar sus propios proyectos,
silenciando y alienando a los otros miembros
del comité. Juan es el típico ejemplo de
alguien
que
posee
buenos
dones
administrativos, pero sus servicios deberían prestarse en otro
lugar. Afortunadamente el nuevo párroco le pidió a Juan que
comenzara el ministerio de “Bienvenidos a Casa” para los
católicos que se han alejado de la Iglesia. Esta iniciativa está
prosperando, pues Juan ha descubierto una nueva energía y un
entusiasmo al emparejar sus habilidades de planificación con
la hospitalidad. Otro ejemplo es el de Alicia a quien le
pidieron que se hiciera cargo de una de las clases de religión
en la parroquia, aunque no tenía entrenamiento alguno para
ello ni se relacionaba bien con adolescentes. Alicia no conocía
en realidad sus habilidades, por eso su servicio lo hacía un
tanto renuente y lo más probable que no durara en ese
ministerio. Una mujer del equipo de catequistas notó las
dificultades de Alicia. Conversando una vez después de la
clase, Alicia le dijo que acababa de finalizar los arreglos para
la boda de su tercera hija. Su amiga la compadeció por todo el
duro trabajo, pero Alicia le dijo: “¡Oh, a mí me encantan las
bodas!” Hoy día Alicia está encargada del equipo coordinador
de los matrimonios en la parroquia, el cual se encarga de
ayudar a las parejas con todos los arreglos antes y durante ese
día especial. Ella atrae fácilmente a personas voluntarias, pues
le encanta su trabajo y tiene las aptitudes para hacerlo. El
Espíritu enriquece la vida de Juan y de Alicia, pues el servicio
que prestan va bien emparejado con las habilidades de ellos.
De este modo se enriquece también la comunidad parroquial.
