ADULT SACRAMENTS-RCIA ARE OPEN
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process of prayer, reflection, and leadership that allows for the
continual discernment of God’s will in our lives. Candidates for RCIA includes:
1. Non-baptized adults who wish to enter the Catholic
Church;
2. Baptized adult Christians of another denomination who
wish to continue their Christian faith in the Catholic
Church;
3. Adult baptized Catholics who have not yet completed the
Sacraments of Initiation (Communion, Confirmation)
and wish to do so.

CATECHISTS ARE NEEDED
Blessed Sacrament Religious Education Program is looking
for people to serve the children of our community. Through
the teaching of the Word of God in our religious formation
program, the children will learn about the presence of God
in their lives. Currently the program serves over 1,000 children. We need adults, young and old, in English and Spanish to join us in this mission. If you are interested, please

“We usually think of the works
of mercy individually and in
relation to a specific initiative:
hospitals for the sick, soup
kitchens for the hungry, shelters for the homeless, schools
for those to be educated, the
confessional and spiritual direction for those needing counsel and forgiveness,” Francis
wrote.
“But if we look at the works of
mercy as a whole, we see that
the object of mercy is human
life itself and everything it embraces.”
“We must not be indifferent or resigned to the loss of biodiversity
and the destruction of ecosystems, often caused by our irresponsible and selfish behavior,” he said. “Because of us, thousands of
species will no longer give glory to God by their very existence.
… We have no such right.”
In the message, Francis said the faithful should use the holy year
to ask forgiveness for the “sins” against the environment that have
been committed by the “irresponsible, selfish” and profit-at-allcost economic and political system.
He called for all of humanity to take concrete steps, starting with
repaying what he called the “ecological debt” that wealthy countries owe the poor. Recycling, turning off the lights and carpooling
can all help, he said.
Francis stressed that human beings were “deeply connected” to all
elements of creation and needed to examine their conscience and
repent. Finally, he proposed that caring for the environment be
added as a “complement” to the seven spiritual and corporal
works of mercy.

del Papa.
El Papa Francisco propuso sumar la protección del medio ambiente y el "cuidado
de la creación" a la lista de obras tradicionales consideradas de misericordia en el
Cristianismo, según se anunció en un mensaje publicado.
El cristianismo contempla siete obras clásicas de misericordia corporales y otras
siete espirituales basadas en la Biblia y
que deben llevar a cabo los cristianos, como dar de comer al hambriento, de beber al sediento, visitar a los enfermos y presos o dar
posada al peregrino, entre otros.
El Papa, que pretende ahora ampliarlas con la protección del medio ambiente, hizo un llamamiento a "actitudes y comportamientos
concretos más respetuosos con la creación".
"Por ejemplo, hacer un uso prudente del plástico y del papel, no
desperdiciar el agua, la comida y la energía eléctrica, diferenciar
los residuos, tratar con cuidado a los otros seres vivos, utilizar el
transporte público y compartir el mismo vehículo entre varias personas, entre otras cosas", reza el documento.
En su mensaje, Francisco criticó el sufrimiento de los pobres y la
destrucción del medio ambiente, así como el comportamiento
"egoísta e irresponsable" del ser humano.
"No debemos pensar que estos esfuerzos sean demasiado pequeños
para mejorar el mundo", añade el Pontífice, que ya el año pasado
criticó la destrucción del medio ambiente en su una encíclica ecológica.

St. Francis of Assisi. We will celebrate this
occasion on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 at
3:00pm in the Church’s parking lot. All pets
will be blessed. Everybody is invited.
All Youth between the ages of 11-18 years
old are invited to participate in our youth encounter
every Friday from 7:00pm to 9:30pm in the Auditorium of the Public School, corner of 94th Street and
34th Avenue.
This is an opportunity to encounter God in a
different way.
