Celebración de la Semana Santa en América Latina
Celebration of Holly Week in Latin America
Los latinos por lo general crecen practicando la fe católica
heredada de los españoles. La Semana Santa es la fiesta religiosa más celebrada e importante del año para la cultura hispana / latina.
Latinos typically grow up practicing the Roman Catholic faith
inherited from the Spaniards. Holy Week is the most widely celebrated and important religious holiday of the year for the Hispanic/Latino culture.
Durante la Semana Santa en América Latina, muchos negocios están cerrados por lo menos desde el Jueves Santo en
adelante. Las escuelas cierran toda la semana, y para muchos,

During Holy Week in Latin America, many business are closed
at least from Holy Thursday on. Schools close the entire week,
and for many, this time of the year is a mixture of relaxation and
religious celebration
Lo que no se ve en la mayoría de América Latina, en el tiempo
de Pascua , es el Conejo de Pascua. No hay cestas de Pascua
ni tampoco huevos de colores. En América Latina , la mayoría de la gente celebra la Semana de Santa y Pascua yendo a la
iglesia , asistiendo a las procesiones y haciendo "alfombras ".
Durante las procesiones, l plataformas pesadas con estatuas de
Jesús y María son cargadas en los hombros de los fieles y llevadas por todas las calles. El sábado, al final de la Semana
Santa, en ciudades en México y otros países de América Latina , se elaboran figuras de Judas para ser colgadas y quemadas.
Los católicos en países como El Salvador , Honduras , Guatemala y otros, se quedan despiertos hasta tarde todas las noches
de la Semana Santa , especialmente el Jueves Santo para hacer
"alfombras " a lo largo de la ruta de la procesión del día siguiente . Las alfombras están hechas de aserrín de colores, o
sal rociada en el suelo en hermosos diseños. Al día siguiente,
la procesión pasa por encima de las alfombras.
La noche anterior al Domingo de Pascua, muchos pueblos de
América Latina participan en procesiones con velas. La mañana de Pascua es un tiempo de alegría y se celebra con una hermosa misa, canto, baile y fuegos artificiales.
What you won’t see in most of Latin America at Easter time,
will be the Easter Bunny. No Easter baskets or colored eggs,
either. In Latin America, most people celebrate Holy Week and
Easter by going to church, attending processions, and making
“carpets” (alfombras).
During the processions, heavy platforms with statues of Jesus
and Mary are marched through the streets on the shoulders of the
faithful. On Saturday, at the end of Holy Week, towns in Mexico, and some other Latin American countries, have figures of
Judas that are made to be hang and burn.
Catholics in countries like El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala
and others, stay up late each night of Holy Week, especially on
Holy Thursday, to make “carpets” (alfombras) along the route of
the next day’s procession. The carpets are made of colored sawdust, or salt sprinkled onto the ground in beautiful designs. The
next day, the procession passes over the alfombras.
The night before Easter Sunday, many towns in Latin America
have candlelight processions. Easter morning is a time of joy
celebrated with a beautiful Mass, singing, dancing, and firecrackers.

Taller de formación para líderes
Alrededor de 150 líderes de 26 parroquias de la Diócesis de Savannah, que sirven a la comunidad hispana se hicieron presentes
al taller de formación “Líderes Hispanos: Fermento del Reino de
Dios parte 1”. Durante este taller tuvieron la oportunidad de
aprender y reflexionar sobre:
• La Persona, la fe, y la cultura,
• La misión de Jesús y de la Iglesia,
• El llamado al ministerio, el ministerio hispano
El taller fue ofrecido por la Hermana Guadalupe Ramírez
MCDP, D. Min. Catedrática del Mexican – American Catholic
College, con más de 38 años de experiencia a nivel parroquial y
diocesano y con un Doctorado Ministerial en Formación Espiritual de Adultos de la Universidad Católica de América en Washington, D.C
Los asistentes estuvieron muy complacidos con el taller. Y están
ansiosos por recibir la segunda parte del taller, la cual será ofrecida en el otoño. Los temas a estudiar durante la segunda parte del
taller serán:
• Liderazgo Pastoral en la iglesia
• Habilidades de líderes
• El desarrollo del liderazgo
Si usted es una de esas personas que no pudo asistir al taller, no
se preocupe, la Oficina del Ministerio Hispano en alianza con
Sacerdotes de la Orden de Siervos Misioneros de la Santísima
Trinidad, están trabajando en crear una nueva oportunidad. Más
adelante, por este medio les compartiremos todos los detalles.

Around the Diocese
Formation workshop for leaders
Around 150 leaders from 26 parishes in the Diocese of Savannah,
who serve the Hispanic community, were present at the workshop
"Hispanic Leaders: Ferment of the Kingdom of God - Part 1".
During the workshop, they had the opportunity to learn and reflect
on:
• The person, faith, and culture.
• The mission of Jesus and the Church.
• The call to ministry, Hispanic ministry.
The workshop was offered by Sister Guadalupe Ramirez MCDP,
D. Min Professor of the Mexican - American Catholic College,
with over 38 years of experience at the parish and diocesan level.
She also has a Doctorate of Ministry in Adult Spiritual of the
American Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
The attendees were very pleased with the workshop and eager to
receive the second part of the workshop, which will be offered in
the Fall. Topics covered in the second part of the workshop will
be:
• Pastoral Leadership in the Church
• Leadership Skills
• Leadership development
If you are one of those people who could not attend the workshop,
do not worry. The Office of Hispanic Ministry, in partnership with
priests of the Order of Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, are working to create a new opportunity. Soon, we will share
all the details, so stay tuned!

Cursos de teología en línea
Theology courses online
Camino es un programa de cursos de teología católica por Internet que proviene de la colaboración de SEPI (El Instituto Pastoral del Sureste) y de STEP de la Universidad de Notre Dame.
Camino is a program of online Catholic theology courses offered
through the collaboration of SEPI (the Southeast Pastoral Institute) and the University of Notre Dame's STEP program.
Camino courses are designed by university professors as well as
leaders in Hispanic ministry in the Catholic Church. A facilitator
who holds a master's degree in theology guides the class, encouraging everyone's participation in a dynamic online learning
experience.
Courses last between 4 and 7 weeks. The first week is an orientation, allowing course participants to get to know one another
and to grow accustomed to the course website. After orientation,
each week concentrates on a specific theme. The course is flexible, and participants work at their own pace to complete weekly
assignments
Currently we offer “El Camino de la Fe” – a dynamic introduction to the Catholic Faith based on the United States Catholic
Catechism for Adults. The course explores themes such as: the
development of the Faith, the Scriptures, the Creeds, the Church,
the Sacraments, Liturgy, Prayer, and Christian morality. The
next offering of “El Camino de la Fe” begins in June 2014. For

Los cursos de Camino están diseñados tanto por profesores universitarios cómo líderes en el ministerio hispano de la Iglesia
Católica. Un facilitador o una facilitadora preparada en teología

La Iglesia Sagrado Corazón en Warner Robins los invita a las

Unidos!

Individuals claiming to be members of the YAMASEE INDIAN TRIBE are targeting undocumented Immigrants in
Georgia and neighboring states.
The scam involves paying to be “adopted” as a member of the
tribe in order to receive U.S. citizenship status.
Victims receive a fraudulent citizenship document with their
photograph.
Adoption by Native American tribes is not a legitimate path
to acquire U.S. citizenship!
Getting the wrong help can jeopardize future Immigration status. Paying for or presenting false documents could result in
criminal charges, jail time, and deportation.
Please make certain that members of your community are aware
that this is a scam and that they should NOT MEET with anyone offering this proposal and should NOT PAY any money to
anyone offering this type of service. Immigration matters
should only be handled by a qualified attorney.
