TO BE PARENTS
Undoubtedly, among the greatest blessing a
human being can receive is to become a parent.
Whether biologically or through adoption, the magical
connection between parents and their children is
something inexplicable. When I was expecting my first
daughter, I remember seeing a television commercial for
a renowned brand of baby items that said “having a baby
changes everything.” At the time, I didn’t fully capture the
message of the commercial until I became a mother.
I never thought that a home filled with toys and a
child’s belongings scattered everywhere would be
exhaustingly fun. My home and my life would be dark
without the essence and presence of my offspring.
The parents of the Virgin Mary, Ana and
Joachim, experienced this life change firsthand, after
many years of marriage, and through prayer and
penance, they were blessed with the birth of Mary, the
mother of Jesus.
On July 27, we celebrate National Parents Day
and it is a good time to recognize and thank those
human beings who surrendered and continue to give the
best of themselves to their children. It is an opportunity to
recognize the dual efforts of single parents who bring up
their children alone. It is also a time to congratulate those
grandparents, who for any reasons have embraced the
role of father and mother of their grandchildren.
Furthermore, it provides an excellent opportunity to pray
and support those people who have children and have
not been blessed with maternal and paternal instinct.
Parenting today presents various challenges,
one of them is the increasing cost of living. Child care is
extremely high and the option of staying home to care for
children presents an economic challenge for the family if
they don’t have a six-figure salary. In these times, when
values are being lost, our jobs of formators and
educators is to educate our children in the faith, with love
and values.
As Pope Francis said in his message to the
families of the world during his pilgrimage to Rome in the
Year of the Faith, “There are many beautiful moments in
the life of the family: relaxing, sharing meals together,
going out to the park, visiting grandparents or sick
people...But if love, joy, and celebration are lacking,
Jesus will always give us his Word and the Bread of Life,
so that our joy will reach plentitude.”
When we educate our children with love and
values, it means that we must also apply this to
ourselves and it forces us to be consistent with our
words and actions. Let us make of our children, men and
women of integrity, good citizens who bring light to an
increasingly dark world.

Nuestra Parroquia
Sin duda alguna, la mayor bendición que puede
recibir un ser humano es convertirse en padre. Ya sea
biológicamente o por adopción, la magia de la conexión de
padres e hijos es algo inexplicable. Recuerdo que cuando
estaba embarazada de mi primera hija, un día vi en la
televisión un comercial de una marca muy conocida de
artículos para bebé, que decía que “tener un bebé lo cambia
todo”, en ese momento aún no captaba completamente el
mensaje del comercial hasta que me convertí en mamá.
Nunca pensé que un hogar que llegara a parecer un
campo minado por los juguetes y pertenencias de un niño por
doquier, pudiera ser algo tan agotadoramente divertido. Mi
hogar y mi vida serían pardos sin la esencia y presencia de mi
retoños.
Ese cambio de vida lo experimentaron de primera
mano los padres de la Virgen María, Ana y Joaquín, cuando
después de muchos años de casados, y por medio de oración
y penitencia, fueron bendecidos con el nacimiento de María,
madre de Jesús.
El 27 de julio se celebra el día nacional de los padres
(ambos padre y madre) y es un buen día para reconocer y
agradecer a esos seres que han entregado y siguen dando lo
mejor de si a sus hijos. Es una oportunidad para reconocer el
esfuerzo doble de los padres y las madres solteras que
educan a sus hijos en solitario. También, para felicitar a los
abuelos que, por cualesquiera que sean las razones, han
adoptado el rol de padre y madre de sus nietos. Es también
una excelente oportunidad para orar y apoyar a aquellas
personas que aún no han encontrado la bendición en su
paternidad o maternidad.
Ser padres hoy en día presenta varios retos, uno de
ellos, el costo de vida cada día mas alto. El cuidado de niños
es extremadamente elevado y la opción de quedarse en casa
a cuidar a los hijos representa un reto económico para la
familia, si no se goza de un sueldo de seis cifras. En estos
tiempos, donde los valores se han ido perdiendo, nuestro
trabajo como formadores y educadores es formar a nuestros
hijos en la fe, con amor y valores.
Como dijo el Papa Francisco en su mensaje a las
familias del mundo en su peregrinación a Roma, en el Año de
la Fe, “En la vida de una familia hay muchos momentos
hermosos: el descanso, la comida juntos, la salida al parque o
al campo, la visita a los abuelos, la visita a una persona
enferma...Pero si falta el amor, falta la alegría, falta la fiesta y
el amor nos lo da siempre Jesús: Él es la fuente inagotable.
Allí Él, en el Sacramento, nos da su Palabra y nos da el Pan
de Vida, para que nuestra alegría llegue a plenitud”.
Al Formar a nuestros hijos con amor y valores,
significa que nosotros mismos debemos aplicar esto en
nuestra persona, nos obliga a ser congruentes con nuestras
palabras y acciones. Hagamos de nuestros hijos e hijas,
hombre y mujeres íntegros, ciudadanos de bien que aporten
luz a un mundo cada vez más oscuro.

The Knights of Columbus, San Pablo Council no.
11384 is celebrating during 2014 its fifth
anniversary of service to Church and community.
To commemorate the occasion we invite the
community to participate in our celebration. We
will have a new officer’s Installation Ceremony
followed by a lunch. The event will take place in
the School Hall on Sunday August 10 after the
10:30 am Mass. The new Grand Knight of the

diocesan Hispanic Councils: the adult consejo and
the joven consejo will meet in 2 different rooms of
the Early Learning Center at Holy Cross, Dover on
Saturday, August 2 at 10:00 AM. Each Hispanic

to each meeting.

Bishop Francis Malooly invites all couples
celebrating their 25th or 40th or 50th wedding
anniversary, or any anniversary beyond 50, to the
Annual Wedding Anniversary Mass at 1:30 PM on
Sunday, September 28, 2014 at St. John the
Beloved Parish, 907 Milltown Road, Sherwood
Park, Wilmington, DE 19808. A reception with
light refreshments in the parish hall will immediately
follow the Mass. Certificates for 25th, 40th, 50th,
55th, 60th, 65th, and 70th wedding anniversaries will
be distributed in Church. Others will be given out
at the reception. There is no cost to you, however
reservations are required. Please make your
reservations by September 18 by filling out an
