Third Sunday of Advent

The Pastor’s Desk
Dear Friends,
May the Lord give you peace!
Today we celebrate the Third Sunday of Advent, also known as
Gaudete Sunday. This marks the half way point of Advent and is
meant to encourage us to rejoice in the Lord always as we continue
to wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior.
Today we also celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe. I’d like to thank
everyone who organized this magnificent celebration. It is such a
joy to celebrate this great feast with our Latino sisters and brothers.
Thank you and Viva Guadalupe!
Congratulations and thanks to Lisa Fritzky, St. Mary’s School
music teacher, for putting on a great Christmas Concert last
Wednesday. I’m sure it was a lot of hard work and it certainly paid
off! All the kids in CCD have been doing all sorts of preparation
for Christmas. Congratulations to all of you and to Mrs. Banta
and all the CCD teachers.
On Tuesday, December 15, at 7:00 PM we will have our final
Advent Penance Service. It will be held in the church. During
the service there will be an opportunity for individual confessions.
You may be frantically scanning the bulletin looking for Lessons
& Carols, a great musical and prayerful tradition at St. Mary’s.
This year we will celebrate Lessons & Carols on Sunday, January
3, 2016, at 2:30 PM in church. It will still be the Christmas Season
and it gives everyone an opportunity to continue to celebrate
beyond December 25. It’s also one more thing you don’t have to
try to fit in your schedule in the next two weeks!

Bambinelli Sunday
r. Frank will bless the infant from your
Nativity set, on Sunday, December 20, at
2:30 PM in church.
Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
This Sunday, December 13, we will
join our Latino sisters and brothers in
celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe.
A bilingual procession will depart from
St. Anthony’s in Butler at 6:30 AM and arrive at
St. Mary’s at 8:30 AM - followed by a bilingual
Mass at 9:00 AM in the church, with a Mariachi
band.
We will conclude with a festive
celebration in the Carnevale Center with
the Mariachi Band, international dancers
and free delicious Latino food. Our
Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Americas and
the Philippines. This celebration is a wonderful way to
honor the Blessed Mother and to join with our Latino
brothers and sisters in celebrating our unity as a parish.
Once again we will celebrate Bambinelli Sunday. This is the
Italian tradition of having the Baby Jesus from your Christmas
Crèche blessed. I invite everyone to bring their Baby Jesus figurine
to church at 2:30 PM on December 20, for the blessing. I am very
grateful to Diane Sarno and our newly formed chapter of Catholic
Grandparents for bringing this tradition back to St. Mary’s. In
addition to this blessing, Fr. Gonzalo will bless figurines of the
Baby Jesus at the Spanish Mass on Christmas Eve at 8:00 PM in
the Carnevale Center.
As we begin this countdown to Christmas, please be sure to take
some time to step back from the busyness of the season to give
thanks for all the blessings you have received this year. I certainly
am giving thanks for all of you!

GOING THROUGH
CHALLENGES?
The children of St. Mary’s School have been very busy
getting ready for Christmas. Each class is involved in ageappropriate Advent activities. The children were treated
to the annual Christmas Shop presented by our parents.
Children were able to do all their shopping in school!
The children did a wonderful job at their Christmas Concert. Many
thanks to their teachers and especially their Music teacher, Lisa
Fritzky. Accompanying our students were wonderful musicians:
Carrie Stewart, Craig Limey, Matthew Reif and Joe Lorenc.

Misa en Español
Los domingos a las 9:00AM en el Centro Carnevale (10 Lenox Ave,
Pompton Lakes, NJ). Durante el año celebramos varias eucaristías

SÁBADO 12 DE DICIEMBRE 2015- Fiesta de Nuestra
Señora de Guadalupe
“Entonces Isabel quedó llena del Espíritu Santo, y levantando la
voz, exclamó: “¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de
tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo, para que la Madre de mi Señor venga a
verme? Apenas llegó tu saludo a mis oídos, el niño saltó de gozo en
mi seno. Dichosa tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te
fue anunciado de parte del Señor”. Entonces dijo María: “Mi alma
glorifica al Señor y mi espíritu se llena de júbilo en Dios, mi Salvador,
porque puso sus ojos en la humildad de su esclava.” (Lc 1:39-48)
En el mes de diciembre de 1531, diez años después de la conquista de
Tonochtitlan por los españoles, la santísima Virgen se apareció al indio
Juan Diego en el cerro de Tepeyac. Lo nombró su embajador ante el
obispo, fray Juan de Zumárraga, para que le construyera un templo. La
prueba de que las palabras de Juan Diego eran ciertas fueron las rosas que
llevó en su tilma y la preciosa imagen que apareció dibujada en ella. La
santísima Virgen es nuestra Madre.
Domingo Diciembre 13- Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de
Guadalupe en Nuestra Parroquia
La Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Santa María será
el 13 de diciembre. Habrá una procesión que saldrá de la Iglesia
de San Antonio a las 6:00 AM, cruzando Butler, Bloomingdale, y
Riverdale, para llegar a Santa María en Pompton Lakes a las 8:30
AM. La Misa bilingüe, con Mariachis, será a las 9AM en la

Iglesia Principal. Después de la Misa habrá una fiesta en el Centro
Carnevale. ¡Todos están invitados!
13 DE DICIEMBRE 2015- III Domingo de Adviento
“Como el pueblo estaba en expectación y todos pensaban que quizá
Juan era el Mesías, Juan los sacó de dudas, diciéndoles: “Es cierto
que yo bautizo con agua, pero ya viene otro más poderoso que yo,
a quien no merezco desatarle las correas de sus sandalias. Él los
bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego. Él tiene el bieldo en
la mano para separar el trigo de la paja; guardará el trigo en su
granero y quemará la paja en un fuego que no se extingue.””
(Lc 3:10-18)
Compartamos durante estos días de posadas, las buenas y malas
noticias a nivel personal, familiar, comunitario, del país, de la
Iglesia, del mundo, de los niños y niñas y de los pobres, para
descubrir los destellos de la presencia de Dios en nuestra propia
historia. Esto mismo es lo que hace Juan el Bautista: invitarnos a
todos a descubrir lo que podemos y debemos hacer para que hoy
vuelva a ser Navidad en medio de nosotros y en medio de nuestro
pueblo. Esto es anunciar “las buenas noticias a la gente.”
LUNES 14 DE DICIEMBRE 2015- Memoria de San
Juan de la Cruz
San Juan de la Cruz, cuyo nombre secular era Juan de Yepes Álvarez
y su primera identificación como fraile Juan de San Matías nació en
Ávila, España en 1542 y murió el14 de diciembre de 1591. Fue un
religioso y poeta místico del renacimiento español. Fue reformador
de la Orden de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo y cofundador de
la Orden de los Carmelitas Descalzos con Santa Teresa de Jesús. Es
el patrono de los poetas en lengua española.
Las Posadas
Las Posadas se celebran tradicionalmente en México y en el suroeste
de los Estados Unidos. Aunque la tradición varía de lugar en lugar, el
hilo común es la dramatización de la búsqueda de hospedaje realizada
por José y María, camino a Belén para hacerse contar en el censo.
Como sabemos, para María ya se acerca el momento del parto, lo
cual implica un viaje difícil para ella.
Esta versión de las Posadas nos lleva en peregrinaje con una familia
migrante de hoy en día que se desplaza entre fronteras. La familia
también procura hospedaje en tierra extraña en un tiempo de gran
carestía. Participamos en esta costumbre solidariamente con nuestros
hermanos y hermanas cruzando fronteras, conscientes de las
divisiones que estos límites han creado. Roguemos para que todos
los pueblos sepamos formar amistades, abrazando el mandato bíblico
de acoger al forastero, “ya que nosotros también fuimos alguna vez
forasteros en tierra extraña.”

Trabajando Juntos con Jesús en una relación más saludable
Habrá un retiro para parejas (casadas y no casadas) en el invierno, el
22 y el 23 de enero, comenzando el viernes a las 10 de mañana y terminando
el sábado al medio día. El Padre Jhon Fredy Guarnizo, Párroco de la Iglesia
de La Santísima Trinidad en Jacksonville, Florida, será el predicador. El
Padre Guarnizo tiene un título en periodismo y comunicación social, una
maestría en Divinidad del Seminario de Notre Dame en New Orleans,
Louisiana, y está finalizando otra maestría en consejería de familia. Más
detalles en las próximas semanas.
Formación de Fe para Adultos
La justicia brota de la fe es un proceso de formación para
hispanos sobre el compromiso social y la íntima conexión entre
la fe y el amor hacia el prójimo. Esta obra promueve el desarrollo
espiritual de los que anhelan profundizar la práctica de su fe en
un ambiente tan desafiante como el de hoy y en el que somos
llamados para la Nueva Evangelización, como nos invita el Papa
Francisco: “vayan sin miedo a servir.” Los interesados deben

RICA
El Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) es el proceso
en el cual los adultos se preparan para recibir los Sacramentos de
Iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación y 1ra Santa Comunión). El
propósito primario de RICA es la iniciación de los adultos y niños no
bautizados que han llegado a la edad de la razón, sin embargo el Rito
también se extienda a los adultos bautizados pero no catequizados. Los
Sacramentos se reciben durante la Vigilia Pascual, en la noche del

Preparación Matrimonial en español
Ante todo les invitamos a HABLAR CON EL SACERDOTE, para
acompañarlos en su decisión libre y madura. Esto evita trámites, tiempo

Visita y Sacramento de Unción de los Enfermos
Los enfermos necesitan ser acompañados por su familia. La Iglesia
es una Gran Familia. Permítanos organizar la visita semanal, para
acompañar, dialogar, escuchar, compartir un tiempo con el enfermo
o el adulto mayor que ya no puede venir solo a la Eucaristía. Por

año realizamos varias jornadas de Reconciliación (Confesión),

Son los diferentes servicios que se hacen necesarios para que las
celebraciones litúrgicas sean vivas, participativas y solemnes.
Ministerio Musical. Es el ministerio de alabanza a Dios por medio
del canto. Si quiere ser parte del coro en español, cantando o tocando

Monaguillos. Los acólitos ayudan al Celebrante (Sacerdote) en el
altar durante las misas dominicales, en las bodas y fiestas especiales
del año. Son elegibles para este ministerio jóvenes, niños y niñas,
desde el quinto año escolar hasta la escuela secundaria que hayan
recibido la Primera Comunión, o que se estén preparando para
recibirla. En este servicio, los jóvenes crecen en su vida de fe, al

Clases de GED (General Equivalency Diploma) en nuestra Iglesia de
Santa María - después de la Misa de español en el Centro Carnevale. Este
examen es el equivalente al diploma de la escuela secundaria. Las Clases

Clases de Inglés
Clases Gratis de inglés en la Iglesia de Santa María - Las clases
de inglés para adultos y jóvenes todos los lunes y miércoles 7:30 –
9:00 PM en el sótano del Centro Carnevale. Hablar inglés nos abre
muchas puertas. Nuestros voluntarios son maestros profesionales.
La última clase de inglés del semestre será el miércoles 16. No
habrá clases durante los meses de enero y febrero.

Ministerio Hispano de Santa María
Programa de Asistencia Médica de la Iglesia de Santa
María. Todos los lunes de 7:30 a 9 PM un grupo de doctores y enfermeras
voluntarios atienden las necesidades básicas de las personas que no cuentan
con seguro medico. Ellos vienen del Hospital de San José en Paterson.
No se necesita cita previa. La clínica se encuentra localizada en el sótano
del Centro Carnevale (10 Lenox Ave. Pompton Lakes, NJ) en el salón
003. Se cuenta con un intérprete al español.
ATENCION: El programa de asistencia médica de Santa María
NO realizará más exámenes para participar en deportes en
las escuelas. Estos exámenes deben ser hechos por el médico en
cada escuela, y son gratis. Los estudiantes deben asistir a las sesiones
que cada escuela programa para aquellos que quieren participar en
actividades deportivas.
Despensa de Comida de Santa María. Esta despensa gratuita
de comida o Food Pantry es un ministerio de nuestra parroquia que
ayuda a aproximadamente 175 familias a la semana (o sea aproximadamente 480 personas entre niños y adultos). Si usted o algún
conocido necesita un mercado de emergencia, por favor visite nuestra

Grupo de Jóvenes Hispanos de Santa María
Este es un nuevo grupo (en español/bilingüe) para jóvenes entre
las edades de 13 y 18 años de edad que quieran crecer en su fe,
sirviendo a su comunidad y trabajando en equipo con otros jóvenes,
de acuerdo al modelo católico y franciscano de nuestra parroquia. Te
invitamos a participar todos los miércoles de 6:00 a 8:00 PM en el

OPORTUNIDADES PARA ORAR, SERVIR Y DAR

COMUNITARIO de la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón en Jersey City,
una vez al mes. La próxima visita será el sábado 19 de diciembre. Es
una gran oportunidad para brindar nuestra compañía y un plato de
comida a personas, incluidos muchos niños, que están pasando por un

El Papa Francisco ha declarado un “AÑO DE MISERICORDIA”
(la misión de ser testigos de la misericordia de Dios), el cual
comienza el 8 de diciembre de 2015, y concluye el 20 de noviembre
de 2016. Los frailes franciscanos de la Provincia del Santo Nombre
ofrecen una oración diaria en el folleto “La Misericordia de
Bolsillo” el cual está disponible este fin de semana. Por favor tome
uno y lea la reflexión diariamente.

Sunday Readings
First Reading: Zephaniah 3:14-18a—Zephaniah urges the
people of Jerusalem to rejoice because the Lord is in their midst.
He conveys the message that God will love and protect those who
have remained faithful to him.
Second Reading: Philippians 4:4-7—Paul encourages the
Philippians to be ready for Christ. He tells them not to worry about
their concerns, but to instead ask God’s help and allow his peace to
fill their hearts and minds.
Gospel: Luke 3:10-18—John the Baptist answers people who
ask him what they should do, leading some to believe he was the
Messiah. John clearly states that he will be followed by one so
powerful that “I am not fit to loosen his sandal strap.”
