NOTES FROM FATHER NICK
SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL GUARD
Thanks to all who participated in our short drive for
our local troops in Afghanistan. We delivered a
nice size load to the Armory on May 21.
FR. NICK ON VACATION/SEMINAR
Fr. Nick will be gone June 3 through June 13. He
will be visiting relatives in Pennsylvania and
attending an ecumenical seminar at Loyola College,
Baltimore, Md.

MASS TIMES
After almost a year at St. Paul, St. William, and
Holy Family, I have realized that I cannot continue
doing 4 Sunday Masses, running from one place to
another. Also, our Bishop wants the Pastors
present for religious education to interact with
teachers, parents, and students. This is impossible
with my present schedule. Therefore, we will need
to make a change.
As of July 1st, our Mass schedule (and religious
education classes) will be as follows:
Saturday
St. William 5:00pm – English Mass
6:00pm – Religious Ed. (in fall)
7:00pm – Spanish Mass
Sunday
Holy Family 8:00am
St. Paul
9:30am – English Mass
10:30am – Religious Ed. (in fall)
11:45am – Spanish Mass
Quinceaños & bodas will be 2:30pm Saturdays at
St. Paul, & 3:30pm Saturdays at St. William.

OUR NEW PRAYER MINISTRY
We will be starting a new prayer ministry here at
St. Paul—by those who are sick/recovered for those
who are sick or troubled. In the vestibule, one of
the bulletin boards is set up as our prayer wall.
Slips of paper are there for you to write your prayer
requests (anonymous, if you wish). Members of
the prayer ministry will then pray a rosary
dedicated to your needs. Please phone the church
office (384-3560) or speak with Linda Hudson &
Janet Benton if you’d like to participate.
FROM THE DOUGLAS ENTERPRISE—1938
On May 8, The Douglas Enterprise ran the March
10, 1938 front page; this article appeared then:
“Catholics Building $17,000 Church Here:
In a Holy ceremony Bishop Gerald O’Hara, of the
Atlanta and Savannah diocese, broke the dirt on
Monday afternoon on which the new Catholic
Church will be built.
Bearing the name of St. Paul’s, the new structure
will be built of wood, is to have an oil heating
system and will cost $17,500 exclusive of the
furnishings. The contractors for the work are
Averitt Bros. and J.B. Sargent of Statesboro and
they hope to turn the building over to the bishop for
dedication about June 15. The building lot is a part
of the Sibbett property on East Ward Street in the
fifth block and sits back from three stately pines.
The chapel which will be 27x35 feet faces Ward
Street, and the rectory built under the same roof
will face Cowetta Avenue. It will be 53x38 and
will have five bedrooms, three baths, a living room,
kitchen and dining room. The resident priest,
Father Mullins and his assistant, Father Bourke,
who are at present living at the Doucoff Hotel will
make the rectory their home.”

PRAYER FOR THE PARISH
Almighty God, my parish is composed of people
like me. I help make it what it is. It will be
friendly if I am. Its pews will be filled if I help fill
them. It will do great work, if I work. It will make
generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous
giver. It will bring other people into its worship
and fellowship, if I bring them. It will be a parish
of loyalty and love, of justice and faith, and a parish
with a compassionate spirit, if I—who make it what
it is—am filled with these same qualities.
Therefore, with your help, O God, I will dedicate
myself to becoming what You want me to be, that I
might continue with Christ the building of
Your Kingdom on earth. Amen.

HORARIO DE MISAS
Después de casi un año en St. Paul, St. William, y
Sagrada Familia, me he dado cuenta de que no
puedo seguir haciendo 4 Misas el Domingo,
corriendo de un lugar a otro. También, nuestro
Obispo quiere que los prrocos estén presentes
durante la Catequesis en la parroquia; para
interactuar con los maestros, padres y estudiantes.
Esto es imposible con mi horario actual. Por lo
tanto, tendremos que hacer un cambio.
A partir del Primer Sabado de Julio nuestro
horario de misas (y clases de educación religiosa)
será el siguiente:
