Father Bill on Marriage...
As I have stated I am not an expert in Canon Law. So take
the following with a grain of salt or I think they say that.
Anyway, here it goes. A marriage can be dissolved in either
of two ways: 1) there was something wrong with the person
involved. Let me give you an example. What if one of the
couples lied when asked if they would have children? You
must be open to life if you want to be married in the Catholic Church. This does not mean everyone who is married
will be able to have children. Some try all their marriages
to have children and cannot have them. This is a case
where those who can, but will not agree to have children.
Let us see another case. What if the person you married
was unfaithful from the moment you married? You must be
faithful in marriage. In this case you would have to prove
he or she was unfaithful even before marriage. It is not as
easy as it sounds. But let me assure you I know people who
received annulments on just these same grounds. 2) Sometimes there can be a defect in the form. Interested - see you
next week!

United by our faith in Christ
It is difficult to remain calm when we see ourselves
surrounded by difficulties and problems. Think of your
own reactions in the face of the struggles of life. And
that anxiety tends to be intensified when we feel in any
way judged by the prejudices of others or by an open
criticism of our culture or
faith. What is the best
response in difficult
situations? Peter says
that the best response is
to give such witness of an
upright life that those
who judge would have to
be silent. That is, a
witness of integrity, love,
truth and dignity. Since such a life is difficult to live on
our own strength, it will give witness of where our
support lies; it will tell the world that we have an
Advocate in the Spirit.
A life of peace and serenity in the face of adversity,
of hope in the face of difficulty, and joy in the midst of
pain is only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit
in our lives. The Spirit is given to all baptized but we
need to accept it and ask for it, to be open to its
coming. How can we cultivate such attitudes? Certainly
not by our own means, but by the grace of God. But
there are ways that we can become more receptive to
this grace: family prayer which gives us the mutual
support of faith and unites us with strength to deal with
our lives; sharing in the church community bringing in
our talents and treasure, and living the life of faith
within a support group that encourages and impels us to
continue walking toward God; service to others, which
brings us out of ourselves.
With all this, whoever looks at us will be able to say,
as they said about the first Christians: “see how they
love each other.” That is the best witness of the One we
trust, Jesus himself.

this moment? What cases of prejudice or discrimination
have I faced or am facing? How do I usually respond?

LOOK UP …our beautiful church was inspired by the Basilica of
St. Mark’s in Venice and the San Vitale Church in Ravenna,
Italy --- two masterpieces of church architecture. As you walk
down the main aisle LOOK UP and you will see a series of
paintings in the arcade of the church … the saints in the
arcade panels are St. Paul and St. Peter … on the St. Paul side
we have St. John and St. Simon … then St. Philip, St. James
and St. Bartholomew … then St. Benedict, St. Agnes and St.
Cyril … St. Clotilda, St. Louis, and St. Edward … St. Thomas
Aquinas, St. Wenceslaus and St. William and then finally St.
Jean de Matha, St. Patrick and St. Vincent de Paul … on the St.
Peter side we begin with St. Luke and St. Matthew … then St.
Matthias, St. Andrew and St. Thomas … St. Marcelle, St.
Dorothy and St. Euphrasie…then St. John Baptist de la Salle,
St. Heliodore and St. Scholastica … St. Marguerite, St. Gal the

as he does to his first assignment at St. Joseph’s Church in

CONGRATULATIONS … to our 146 seniors in the Boys High
School who came to celebrate Mass with their parents on
Friday night and then for their Graduation Ceremony on
Saturday morning … God’s blessings upon you all … thanks,
too, to Brother Daniel and his administration and faculty … a
job well done!
CONGRATULATIONS … to our students who received the
Sacrament of Confirmation this past week --- 54 students on
Monday from the religious education programs and Girls
Academy and 65 students on Tuesday from the elementary
school and Boys High School. We thank Bishops Walsh, the
principals, teachers and directors of religious education for
your time, talents and heavenly treasures to these newly
confirmed students. May the Holy Spirit be their guide always
and forever.

Flynn Room … we will set the meeting dates for next year and
outline our plans for parish activities at this meeting … all are

SATURDAY, JUNE 25 … we welcome back and celebrate with
Father Richard Czajkowski, a Maryknoll Priest from our parish,
who is celebrating his 50th Anniversary as a priest … Fr.
Czajkowski has spent most of his life working in Japan with
Maryknoll as a missionary … He will celebrate the 5:30 PM Mass
on Saturday, June 25 and he invites the parishioners to be with
him as he thanks God for his priestly vocation which began
here in St. Raymond’s … he will be joined by family members
and his niece who lives here in the parish … ALL ARE
WELCOME!
SUNDAY, JUNE 26 … is the feast of Corpus Christi … we will
have a procession with the Blessed Sacrament on that day …

LET’S START THINKING … ADULTS … who need to celebrate the
sacraments of Baptism, Communion, Confirmation and
Marriage … all of our adult programs will begin in September -- for the sacrament of marriage, speak with Father Brogan; for
the other sacraments, speak with the Pax Christi Sisters or one
of the priests … SACRAMENTS START SEPTEMBER (SSS).
SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE … beginning June 27, there will be no
7 am Mass during the week … there will be no Mass at 4:30 PM
on Sundays beginning July 3 … please mark your calendars …
the regular schedule will resume after Labor Day in
September.
ALUMS… from our elementary school … you will be receiving a
special letter this week about supporting St. Raymond’s
Elementary School… the good thing about this letter is that if

IT HAS BEEN A GREAT YEAR … the priests and other staff
members have been reflecting upon this year and we are
convinced it has been wonderful --- church celebrations,
school enrollments, 50th Anniversary celebrations in our high
schools, parish activities, financial support, involvement of our
parishioners, church renovations, new buildings --- just to
mention a few successes! Thank you to everyone who makes a
contribution to the parish --- your time, your talents and your
treasures are much appreciated and cherished … as we begin
the summer, enjoy and let’s plan for another banner year at
the Mother Church of the Bronx.

we think of how they have followed in
the footsteps of your son, our Savior,

strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.

Misas es: 7 AM, 8 AM Misa en la Escuela Secundaria de Niños , 9
AM con la escuela primaria, 10:30 AM con la Escuela
Secundaria de Niños, 12 del mediodía Misa de Graduación con
los estudiantes de la Academia … Misa en español será
celebrada el miércoles, 1ro de junio a las 7 PM --- Misa
anticipada del día santo… el Jueves de Ascensión es un día
santo de obligación y todos los católicos deben asistir a Misa --como los domingos!
IGLESIA DE ABAJO … el viernes, 3 de junio la Misa de las 7 pm
en español será celebrada en la Iglesia de Abajo … la Academia
tendrá su Graduación a las 5 pm en la Iglesia Superior …

PRIMERA COMUNIÓN … para nuestros estudiantes en nuestro
programa de religión los domingos será celebrada el sábado, 4
de junio en la Misa de las 12 del mediodía … todos están
invitados.
MISA SOLEMNE … en honor a las personas de Puerto Rico … el
domingo, 5 de junio a las 4 pm en la Catedral de San Patricio
… el celebrante y homilista será el Cardinal Egan … todos están
invitados.

LA IGLESIA … nosotros continuamos recibiendo cumplidos
acerca de nuestra nueva iglesia restaurada y pintada …

todas las Estaciones de la Cruz han sido tomadas para
memoriales … pedimos que considere los bancos, las puertas y

ALUMNOS … de nuestra escuela primaria … recibirá una carta

TESTAMENTOS, PODERES MĖDICOS, PODERES DE ABOGADOS …

CONFERENCIA DEFENSA DE LA VIDA … el viernes, 3 de junio de

DOMINGO, 19 de junio … es el Día de los Padres ... habrá una
recepción para los padres y abuelos después de las Misas de las
9 am y 10:30 am en el auditorio … patrocinado por el Comité
Hispano.
LUNES, 20 DE JUNIO … Reunión del Concilio de la Parroquia a
las 7:30 pm en el Salón de Flynn … nosotros organizaremos las
fechas de las reuniones para el año próximo y un esbozo de
nuestros planes para actividades de parroquia en esta reunión
… todos están invitados con IDEAS Y SUGERENCIAS.
SÁBADO, 25 DE JUNIO … damos la bienvenida y celebramos con
el Padre Richard Czajkowski, un Sacerdote de Maryknoll de
nuestra parroquia, que celebra su Aniversario 50 como
sacerdote … el padre Czajkowski ha pasado más de su vida
trabajando en Japón con Maryknoll como un misionero … él
celebrará la Misa de las 5:30 PM el sábado, Junio 25 e invita a
los feligreses para estar con él como él da las gracias a Dios
por su vocación sacerdotal que empezó aquí en San Ramón …
será unido por miembros de su familia y su sobrina que vive
aquí en la parroquia … TODOS ESTAN BIENVENIDOS!
DOMINGO, 26 DE JUNIO … es la fiesta de Corpus Christi …
tendremos una procesión con el Santísimo Sacramento en ese
día … más detalles a venir.
VAMOS A EMPEZAR A PENSAR…ADULTOS…quien debe celebrar
los sacramentos de Bautismo, Comunión, Confirmación y
Matrimonio … todos nuestros programas adultos empezarán en
septiembre --- para el sacramento del matrimonio, hablar con
el Padre Brogan; para los otros sacramentos, hablar con las
Hermanas de la Pax Christi o con uno de los sacerdotes … LOS
SACRAMENTOS COMIENZAN EN SEPTIEMBRE.
HORARIO DE MISA DEL VERANO … empezando el 27 de junio, no
habrá Misa de las 7 am durante la semana … no habrá Misa a
las 4:30 PM empezando los domingos 3 de julio … marcar por
favor sus calendarios … el horario regular reasumirá después
de Día de Labor en septiembre.
HA SIDO UN GRAN AÑO … los sacerdotes y otros miembros del
personal han estado reflejando sobre este año y nosotros
estamos convencidos que ha sido maravilloso --- celebraciones
de iglesia, matriculaciones de escuela, celebraciones del 50
Aniversario en nuestros escuelas secundarias, actividades de
parroquia, apoyo financiero, participación de nuestros
feligreses, renovaciones de iglesia, nuevos edificios --- sólo por
mencionar algunos de los éxitos! Gracias a todos que hace una
contribución a la parroquia --- su tiempo, talentos y tesoros
son muy apreciados y queridos … como empezamos el verano,
disfrutemos y vamos a planear por otro año sobresaliente en la
Iglesia Madre del Bronx.

Nos une la fe en Cristo
…Es muy difícil mantener la calma cuando nos vemos rodeados de
dificultades y problemas. Piensen en sus propias reacciones antelas
luchas de la vida. ¿Cuál es la mejor respuesta a situaciones difíciles?
La mejor respuesta, nos dice Pedro hoy, es dar un testimonio de una
vida digna, llena de amor y de verdad y de integridad. Como una vida
así es muy difícil de llevar adelante por nuestras propias fuerzas, tal
vida dará testimonio de en quien nos apoyamos, a quien tenemos por
defensor.
Es decir, una vida de calma ante de adversidad, de esperanza ante
las dificultades, y de alegría incluso dentro del dolor, sólo es posible
por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo en nuestras vidas. El Espíritu se da a
todo bautizado, pero hay que aceptarlo y pedirlo, y estar abiertos a su
venida. ¿Cómo se puede tener estas actitudes? Desde luego, no por
nuestros propios medios, sino por la gracia de Dios. Pero sí hay modos
en que nos podemos hacer más y más receptivos a esa gracia: la
oración en familia que nos ofrece el apoyo de la fe de todos y nos une
más para lidiar con nuestra vida; el compartir en la comunidad
eclesial, trayendo lo que tenemos y viviendo la vida de fe dentro de
un grupo que apoya, anima y lanza a seguir caminando hacia Dios; el
servicio a los demás, que nos saca de nuestros propios problemas y
angustias para hacer el bien a otros.
Con todo esto, quienes nos contemplan mucho más cuando nos
sentimos nos sentimos, de alguna manera, juzgados por los prejuicios
de los demás, o por una abierta critica a alguna cultura o a nuestra fe.
podrían decir, como decían de los primeros cristianos: “Miren cómo se
aman”. Y eso es el mejor testimonio de Aquél de quien nos fiamos,
Jesús mismo.

¿Qué problemas o dificultades tiene mi familia en este momento?
¿A qué casos de prejuicio o discriminación me he enfrentado o me
enfrento? ¿ Cómo respondo?
